Yielded Life
Living a yielded life is actually letting Jesus live through you. John the Baptist says
“I must decrease so that He can increase” (John 3:30). The apostle Paul says in
Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ, never the less I live; yet not I, but Christ
lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of
God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me”.
The three Hebrew boys refused to obey the king, but yielded themselves to God,
and even though they were thrown into the fiery furnace they came out with no hurt
and the king declared these words (Daniel 3:28-29) “then Nebuchadnezzar spoke,
and said, blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who has sent
His angel, and delivered His servants that trusted in Him, and have changed the
king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any
god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, that every people, nation,
and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a
dunghill; because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort”.
This actually goes back to what God taught Moses to teach the children of Israel
(Deuteronomy 30:19-20) “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you,
that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing, therefore choose
life, that both you and your seed may live. That you may love the Lord Yahweh
your God, and that you may obey His voice, and that you may cling to Him; for He is
your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell in the land which the Lord
Yahweh swear to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them”.
Blessings and cursings are all around us and every day we have the opportunity to
choose whether we will choose to do things yielding to our flesh or whether we will
yield to the word of God and do things His way (Romans 8:5-8,11-13) “for they that
are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the Spirit
the things of the Spirit. for to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually
minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is
not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the
flesh cannot please God. But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead
dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal
bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you. Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to
the flesh, to live after the flesh. For if you live after the flesh, you shall die, but if
you through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, you shall live”.
Again in Romans 6:16-23 the Bible says “know you not, that to whom you yield
yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of
sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness? But God be thanked, that you were
the servants of sin, but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which
was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, you because the servants of
righteousness. I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your
flesh; for as you have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to
iniquity to iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness to
holiness. For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from
righteousness. What fruit had you then in those things, whereof you are now
ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin,
and become servants to God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end
everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord”.
Jesus lived a yielded life and we are called to follow Him. Jesus said “I only do the
things which I have seen My Father do”. When He was tested in the wilderness, He
used the word of God to come upon each temptation of the devil (Matthew 4:1-13).
Each time Jesus would say “it is written”; then He would quote what the word of God
said about each temptation, then the devil left Him.
This is just what the Bible says in II Corinthians 10:3-5 “for though we walk in the
flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,
but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down
imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.
Now lets look at how Jesus responded in the garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:
36-39) “then comes Jesus with them to a place called Gethsemane, and says to the
disciples, sit you here, while I go and pray yonder. And He took with Him Peter and
the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then says
He to them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even to death; tarry you here, and
watch with Me. And He went a little farther, and fell on His face, and prayed, saying,
O My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from Me, nevertheless not as I will,
but as You will”.
Philippians 4:4-9 shows us how, it says “rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say,
rejoice. Let your moderation be known to all men. The Lord is at hand. Be careful
for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any
praise, think on these things. Those things, which you have both learned, and
received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be with you”.
We have to channel our thinking.
It takes discipline, it takes commitment to God (Psalms 37:3-7) “trust in the Lord
Yahweh, and do good; so shall you dwell in the land, and verily you shall be fed.
Delight yourself also in the Lord Yahweh; and He shall give you the desires of your
heart. Commit your way to the Lord Yahweh, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it
to pass. And He shall bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your
judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord Yahweh, and wait patiently for Him, fret
not yourself because of him who prospers in his way, because of the man who
brings wicked devices to pass”.
In Proverbs 16:3 it says “commit your works to the Lord Yahweh, and your thoughts
shall be established”. When we commit ourselves to the Lord Yahweh, He will direct
our path. We do the committing of ourselves to Him, and He directs our paths.
The apostle James says in James 4:6-8,10 “but He gives more grace, wherefore He
says, God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Submit yourselves
therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and
He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts,
you double-minded. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He shall lift
you up”. If you want the devil to flee from your life, you first must submit yourself to
God. Surrender yourself to Him, holding nothing back.
The apostle Paul tells Timothy in II Timothy 1:13-14 “hold fast the form of sound
words, which you have heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. That
good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit which dwells in us”.
Good news is that we don’t have to do it by ourselves.
The apostle Peter also says in I Peter 5:5-10 “likewise, you younger, submit
yourselves to the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed
with humility; for God resists the proud, and gives grace to the humble. Humble
yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due
time. Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you. Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about; seeking whom he
may devour. Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. But the God of all grace,
who has called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that you have suffered
a while, make you perfect, established, strengthen, settle you”.
Living a yielded life is dying to ourselves, our way of doing things and living to God,
doing things His way, according to His words.
