Why Are We Here?
Many people are asking the question, why am I here? Many want to know God’s
purpose for their lives?
God does have a plan for each of our lives, and God says in Jeremiah 29:11 “for I
know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord Yahweh, thoughts of peace,
and not of evil, to give you an expected end”. Psalms 25:14 says “the secret of the
Lord Yahweh is with them that reverence Him and He will show them His covenant”.
Proverbs 25:2 says “it is the glory of God o conceal a thing; but the honor of kings is
to search out a matter”.
Jesus says that it is for us to know the things of the kingdom of God (Mark 4:11).
Good news, it is not hidden from you (I Corinthians 2:9-12) says “but as it is written,
eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the
heart of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. But God
has revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep
things of God. For what man knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which
is in him? Even so the things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we
have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might
know the things that are freely given to us of God”.
Romans 12:1-2 says “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that
you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable,
and perfect will of God”.
Renewing of our mind means getting rid of our old way of thinking Ephesians 4:22-
32 says it like this “that you put off concerning the former life manner, the old man
which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of your
mind. And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness
and true holiness. Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his
neighbor; for we are members one of another. Be you angry, and sin not; let not the
sun go down upon your wrath. Neither give place to the devil. Let him that stole
steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing, which is
good, that he may have to give to him that needs. Let no corrupt communication
proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying that it may
minister grace to the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you
are sealed to the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and
clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be you kind
one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake
has forgiven you”.
Philippians 2:2-5 tells us “fulfill you my joy, that you be likeminded, having the same
love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through strife or
vainglory, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”. This is not done by
ourselves verse 13 says “for it is God which works in you, both to will and to do of His
good pleasure”.
Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded; and if in any thing you be
otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, whereto we have
already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same things”
(Philippians 3:15-16). I Corinthians 2:16 says that “we have the mind of Christ”.
After all Christ lives in our heart.
Lets look at Esther, she found out why she was there and was able to fulfill God’s
purpose for her. Haman an enemy of the Jews, had a scheme to wipe out all the
Jews, not knowing that queen Esther was a Jew, and the word came to Mordecai,
Esther’s uncle (Esther 4:13-17) “ then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, think
not with yourself that you shall escape in the king’s house, more than all the Jews.
For if you altogether hold your peace at this time, then shall there relief and
deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but you and your father’s house
shall be destroyed, and who know whether you are come to the kingdom for such a
time as this? Then Esther bade them return Mordecai this answer. Go, gather
together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast you for me, and neither
eat nor drink three days, night and day; I also and my maidens will fast likewise, and
so will I go in to the king, which is not according to the law; and if I perish, I perish.
So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded
him”. and when she did, she went into the king and reported that Haman wanted to
kill her, the king being angry, could not change the decree, but he hanged Haman
and gave the Jews permission to defend themselves (Esther 9:23-25) “and the Jews
undertook to do as they had begun, and as Mordecai had written to them. Because
Haman the son of Hammedatha, the Agagrite, the enemy of all the Jews, had
devised against the Jews to destroy them, and had cast Pur that is the lot, to
consume them, and to destroy them. But when Esther came before the king, he
commanded by letters that his wicked device; which he devised against the Jews,
should return upon his own head, and that he and his sons should be hanged on the
gallows”.
God wants us to find out our purpose and to fulfill it (Colossians 4:12-13) “Epaphras,
who is one of you, a servant of Christ, salutes you, always laboring fervently for you
in prayers, that you man stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. For I bear
him reford, that he has a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea and them
in Hierapolis”.
Peter says in I Peter 4:1-4 “forasmuch then as Christ has suffered for us in the flesh,
arm yourselves likewise with the same mind; for he that suffered in the flesh has
ceased from sin. That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the
lusts of men, but to the will of God. For the time past of our life may suffice us to
have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts,
excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries. Wherein they
think it strange that you run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of
you”.
The apostle John writes in I John 2:15-17 “love not the world, neither the things that
are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For
all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of
life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passes away, and the lust
thereof, but he that does the will of God abides forever”.
Hebrews 10:35-36 says “cast not away therefore your confidence, which has great
recompence of reward. For you have need of patience, that after you have done
the will of God, you might receive the promise”.
Examine yourselves, God has put His plan in your hearts. Search it out. The
number one way is to ask God, remember that James 1:5 says “if any man lacks
wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men liberally, and upbraids not; and it
shall be given him”.
Paul prayed for the church of Ephesus, and we can pray this prayer for ourselves
and others (Ephesians 1:17-19) “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father
of glory may give to you7 the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of
Him. The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is
the hope of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the
saints. And what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us ward who believe,
according to the working of His mighty power”. Pray it with diligence and a fervent
heart and God will answer you. Remember that “the effectual fervent prayer of a
righteous man avails much” (James 5:16b). Jesus said “you have not, because you
ask not”.
