There is a Way of Escape
Many say that God doesn’t put on you more than you can bear. Yet James 1:13-17
says “let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God for God cannot be
tempted with evil, neither tempts He any man. But every man is tempted when he is
drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it brings
forth sin, and sin when it is finished, brings forth death. Do not err, my beloved
brethren. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down
from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning”.
The Bible says in I Corinthians 10:13 “there has no temptation taken you, but such
as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above
that you are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you
may be able to bear it”. God doesn’t tempt anyone, but He is the One that makes
the way to escape. Jesus told us that the devil is the one who comes to steal, kill
and destroy, but Jesus came to bring life and life more abundantly. Jesus said that
the word of God is seed; as you speak, be careful what you say.
Proverbs 18:21 says “death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that
love it shall eat the fruit thereof”. When you are in the midst of trouble, what are you
saying? Remember that Jesus said “it is written” every time the devil came to tempt
Him. And He had the victory because He spoke the word of God against what the
devil was tempting Him with. The first temptation is in (Matthew 4:1-5) “then was
Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil. And when
He had fasted forty days and forty nights. He was afterward hungry. And when the
tempter came to Him, he said, if You be the Son of God command that these stones
be made bread. But He answered and said, it is written; man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”; this verse was
written also in Deuteronomy 8:3.
The Bible is every word that proceeded out of the mouth of God. It was God
breathed. That why, I continue to say that we must read through the Bible on a
regular basic. God gave us the Bible to be a guide for us (Psalms 119:9-11 says
“wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according
to Your word. With my whole heart have I sought You; O let me not wander from
Your commandments. Your word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against
You”.
The second temptation is listed in Matthew 4:5-7 which says “then the devil takes
Him up into the holy city, and sets Him on a pinnacle of the temple. And says to Him,
if You be the Son of God, cast Yourself down; for it is written, He shall give His
angels charge concerning You; and in their hands they shall bear You up less at
any time You dash Your foot against a stone. Jesus said to him, it is written again,
you shall not tempt the Lord your God”.
The third temptation is listed in Matthew 4:8-10 which says “again, the devil takes
Him up into an exceeding high mountain, and shows Him all the kingdoms of the
world, and the glory of them. And says to Him, all these things will I give You, if You
will fall down and worship me. Then says Jesus to him, get you from here, satan, for
it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and Him only shall you serve”.
We see in verse 11 which says “then the devil leaves Him, and behold angels came
and ministered to Him”. This sounds like what James is saying in James 4:7 “submit
yourselves therefore to God, resist the devil, and he will flee from you”. Resisting
the devil is refusing to believe what he says, and then speaking what God says that
contradicts what the devil was trying to tempt you with; and you will have the same
results.
Revelation 12:11 says us how to overcome the devil, it says “and they overcame
him, by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved
not their lives to the death”. Receiving Jesus is the first key, then testifying of what
God have done in your life is important. Just like David rehearsed his victories that
God had given to him, allowed him the victory over the giant Goliath.
Many times the very same thing that was trying to destroy a person, God takes and
uses them to bring others out of. You have many ministries like someone who came
out of drugs, and by testifying they are able to reach others trapped in the drug
trade. We are in a war, but we are told “for though we walk in the flesh, we do not
war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty
through God to the pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and
every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into
captivity, every thought to the obedience of Christ”.
Paul writes “who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written;
for Your sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the
slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him that
loved us”. The devil will use people to offend you, but we must not take the offense
and then we must pray for the offender.
Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:14-15 “for if you forgive men their trespasses, your
heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you forgive not men their trespasses,
neither will your Father forgive your trespasses”. Jesus also tell us to pray for those
that despitefully use you, and persecute you.
We are told to draw near to God, and He will draw near to us in James 4:8 and we
know that in His presence there is fullness of joy. Psalms 71:1-4 says “in You, O
Lord Yahweh, do I put my trust; let me never be put in confusion. Deliver me in Your
righteousness, and cause me to escape; incline Your ear to me and save me. Be
You my strong habitation, whereto I may continually resort. You have given
commandment to save me; for You are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, O my
God, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man”. And in Psalms 124:6-8 it
says “blessed be the Lord Yahweh, who has not given us as a prey to their teeth.
Our soul is escaped as a bird out of the snare of the fowlers; the snare is broken,
and we are escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord Yahweh, who made
heaven and earth”.
II Corinthians 2:14 says “now thanks be to God which always causes us to triumph in
Christ, and makes manifest the savor of His knowledge by us in every place”. We
have victory in Jesus, as long as we abide in Him and He abides in us, we have the
victory. The Holy Spirit is our helper, and as we listen to Him, He says “this is the
way, walk in it”.
Ephesians 6:10-17 says “finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take to you the whole
armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all
to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the
breastplate of righteousness. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel
of peace. Above all taking the shield of faith wherewith you shall be able to quench
all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of
the Spirit, which is the word of God”. Again, we see that the word of God is the
greatest weapon we can use on the devil.
We are to pray for God’s help; in the Lord’s prayer we are told to say “and lead us
not into temptation, but deliver us from evil, for Yours is the kingdom, and the power
and the glory, for ever. Amen”. Jesus warns His disciples “watch and pray, that you
enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak” (Matthew
26:41).
II Chronicles 7:14 says “if My people, which are called by My name, shall humble
themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I
hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”. As we humble
ourselves, God will exalt us. II Peter 2:9 says “the Lord knows how to deliver the
godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be
punished”.
Praise is a key to our escape, remember Paul and Silas who was cast in prison and
put in the stocks and in Acts 16:25-26 it says “and at midnight Paul and Silas
prayed, and sang praises to God and the prisoners heard them. And suddenly
there was a grea6t earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken,
and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed”.
Not only did they escape, but when the jailer saw what had happened, he asked to
be saved.
Thought-out Israel’s history, many times because of disobedience they were brought
into distress, but when they cried out to the Lord Yahweh, He would bring them out
(Psalms 107:6-9) says “then they cried to the Lord Yahweh in their trouble, and He
delivered them out of their distresses. And He led them forth by the right way, that
they might go to a city of habitation. Oh that men would praise the Lord Yahweh for
His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men. For He satisfies
the longing soul, and fills the hungry soul with goodness”.
