Understanding the New You
The Bible tells us in detail that the new you starts as you receive Jesus Christ (II
Corinthians 5:15-21) which says “that He (Jesus) dies for all, that they which live
should not hereafter live to themselves, but to Him which dies for them, and rose
again. Wherefore hereafter know we no man after the flesh; yea, though we have
known Christ after the flesh, yet now hereafter know we Him no more. Therefore if any
man be in Christ, he is a new creature, old things are passed away, behold all things
are become new. And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by
Jesus Christ, and has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. To say, that God was
in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and
has committed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for
Christ, as though God did beseech you by us, we pray you in Christ’s stead, be you
reconciled to God. For He (God the Father) has made Him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for
us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”.
In verse 15 we see that we are not to live any more to ourselves, but to Christ who
died for us. Paul understood this and says in Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with
Christ, nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live
in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for
me”.
In verse 16 we are told not to know we any man after the flesh, even though we have
known Christ after the flesh, we are to know Him no more. As we look at people after
the flesh, we are apt to judge them after the flesh; and are subject to be judged in like
manner. Just like God is working in you, you have to understand that He is working in
other Christians as well (Hebrews 13:20-21) “now the God of peace, that brought
again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the
blood of the everlasting covenant. Make you perfect in every good work to do His will,
working in you that which is well pleasing in His sight, glory for ever and ever. Amen”.
In verse 17 we become a new creature in Christ, and immediately old things are
passed away and behold all things are made new in our spirit man. However, it takes
time for our flesh to walk it out (Ephesians 4:17,22-24) says “this I say therefore, and
testify in the Lord, that you hereafter walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of
their mind. That you put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is
corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
And that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and
true holiness”. But not in your own strength, remember as Jesus was in the wilderness
and He yielded to God’s word and resisted the devil, then the angels came and
ministered to Him (Matthew 4:11). The key is for us to renew our mind to the things of
God (Romans 12:1-2) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that
you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy acceptable to God which is your
reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed by
the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and
perfect will of God”.
In verse 18 shows us that we are reconciled to God the Father by Jesus Christ.
Reconciled means restored to our original state just as Adam was before the fall. We
can walk with God because God has made us justified, just as if we had never sinned.
As Jesus died on the cross the veil of the temple was ripped in two from the top to the
bottle, meaning that God has taken away the thing that separated us from Himself.
In verse 19 we see that God was in Christ, reconciling the world to Himself, not
imputing our trespasses to us, and have given to us the word of reconciliation. We
have been sanctified for the Masters use. We are to go forth and tell others that they
can have their trespasses are forgiven them.
In verse 20 we are told that we are ambassadors for Christ, an ambassador is an
official representative of kings and rulers; and are to live according to dictates of the
king we represent.
In verse 21 shows us that God the Father made Jesus to be sin for us, and have
made us the righteousness of God in Christ. We are born again, not of corruptible
seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which lives and abides forever (I Peter
1:23). In Christ God is made to us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification and
redemption (I Corinthians 1:29). We are made righteous by what Jesus did, and not
according to any thing we have done; it is a free gift to us.
We have to understand the value that God has placed on us. We have a new nature
(II Peter 1:4, we have a new heart (Ezekiel 11:19). We have been perfected forever
(Hebrews 10:14). We are complete in Him (Colossians 2:10).
We are told to worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24); we do this by walking
by faith and not by sight; looking pass the flesh unto who and what God says about
us. Remember that God declares the end from the beginning (Isaiah 46:10). God
through out the Bibles tells people who they are and as they yield themselves t God,
He brings it to pass (Psalms 37:54-5) “delight yourself also in the Lord Yahweh, and
He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord Yahweh,
trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass”. And in Proverbs 3:5-6 says “trust in
the Lord Yahweh with all your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. In all
your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”.
Romans 5:17 says “for if by one man’s (Adam) offence death reigned by one; much
more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall
reign in life by One, Jesus Christ”. I John 4:17 says “herein is our love made perfect,
that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this
world”.
As we look into the mirror of truth (the Bible), we see that we are the righteousness of
God in Christ, and if you do not turn from it, you will begin acting it out. James tells us
to be a doer of the word and not a hearer only. Remember Proverbs 23:7 says “as a
man thinks in his heart, so is he”.
Paul said “work out your own salvation” (Philippians 2:12), in other words, meditate on
who the Bible says you are. Galatians 5 tells us to “walk in the Spirit and we will not
fulfill the lusts of the flesh”, walking in the Spirit is walking in the word of God. Psalms
107:2 says “let the redeemed of the Lord Yahweh say so, whom He has redeemed
from the hand of the enemy”.
Let us be like those who took God at His word and did mighty exploits, Abraham,
Moses, Gideon, Paul, and the other disciples who were afraid before, but after His
death, burial and resurrection became bold and turned their world upside down.
