Understanding your Ambassadorship

An Ambassador is a messenger or an official representing a higher authority.  We
are Christ’s ambassador, in the letters of Paul, the apostle called himself an
ambassador for Christ because he had an apostolic mission to convey the gospel
of Christ to the Gentiles (II Corinthians 5:20; Ephesians 6:20).  Paul applied this
idea to all Christians.

Christians represent the kingdom of God.  An ambassador is an official
representative from one country to another.  The Bible tells we are in this world,
but not of this world.  As believers, we are Christ’s ambassadors, sent with His
message of reconciliation to the world.  Jesus commissioned us (Matthew 28:19-
20) “go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.  Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you and, lo, I am with you always, even to the end
of the world”.  An ambassador of reconciliation has an important responsibility.  We
dare not take this responsibility lightly.  Let me ask you, how well are you fulfilling
your commission as Christ’s ambassador?

The Bible tells us that God does not want any to perish, but that all would come to
repentance (II Peter 3:9).  We are to want what God wants and stop leaning to our
own understanding (Proverbs 3:5).  Many in the church are compromising with the
world, but it’s our responsibility to tell them that Jesus died for the sins of the whole
world, and as a person turns to Christ and his Lord and Savior, their life is renewed
by the word of God. I believe that if each person would take their responsibility
serious, we can turn the world upside down like the early church (Acts 17:6), the
rulers of the city cried “these that have turned the world upside down are come
here also”.    Don’t be afraid to reach out to people, consider that if they turn to
Jesus, they are condemned already (John 3:18), and if we reach out we have a
chance to win some to the Lord.

An ambassador represents another country, another type of people, and often
another point of view.  We are each God’s ambassadors, representing to the world
that Christians are a different kind of people with a different lifestyle.  Much of the
world knows nothing about God except what they see in the lives of God’s people.
An ambassador is not allowed to speak their own opinions, but are to speak and
follower the rules of his ruler.  Jesus said “I only do what the Father has shown Me”
(John 14:10).  Don’t get caught in the trap of the devil, trying to speak from their
fleshly minds.  We are only to say what God says, that’s what Jesus did and He told
us that the Holy Spirit would do the same.  What kind of God would people think
you represent?  Take note of how you come across to others, this gives you a
good indication of how well you are representing God.

As we take the Bible as our final authority, we can learn how to be the
ambassadors that God has called us to be.  Remember that God knows the end at
the beginning, and calls those things that be not as they are (Romans 4:17).  God
told Abram, he was the father of many nations, but it wasn’t until God changed his
name to Abraham that it came to pass.  When Abraham began to say what God
said, it came to pass.

We don’t do this in our own ability, Jesus said “if I be lifted up, I will draw all man
unto Myself”, and Jesus said “abide in Me, and I in you, as the branch cannot bear
fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine, no more can you, except you abide in Me. I
am the vine, you are the branches, he that abides in Me, and I in him, the same
brings forth much fruit, for without Me you can do nothing” (John 15:4-5).  The
Bible tells us to be followers of God as dear children.  And walk in love, as Christ
also has loved us, and has given Himself for us.

We as ambassadors only need to tell people that God loves them and has a plan
for their lives. Showing them what God has done in your life, giving them hope for
their live too.  Many people think that God is a mad God, up there waiting for them
to do something wrong, so He can get them, but that is not the way the true and
living God is.  And people need to know how in His mercy He sent Jesus while we
were yet sinners (Ephesians 2:4-10).

We as ambassadors must avoid the trick of the devil to divide us, that’s why there
are so many denominations today, this confuses people, the Bible says in John 17:
21 “that they all may be one; as You Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also
may be one in Us; that the world may believe that You have sent Me”.
