The Power of Laughter
Laughter is a medicine, Proverbs 15:13-15 says “a merry heart makes a cheerful
countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken. The heart of him that
has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness.
All the days of the afflicted are evil, but he that is of a merry heart has a continual
feast”. And in Proverbs 17:22 the Bible says “a merry heart does good like a
medicine; but a broken spirit dries the bones”.
The deeper the laugh, the greater the benefit. When you laugh deep in your belly,
your liver sends out ensigns, which flow through out your body. The best thing
about it is that laughter does not cost you a cent; and you know that the health care
of today cost are very high. Your health springs forth faster when you remain
peaceful. Dr. Crocker (a heart specialist) says “those who laugh quickly and easily
seldom have a heart attack”.
Laughter is joy flowing, if circumstances or the enemy can rob you of your peace and
righteousness, you can lose your joy (Nehemiah 8:10) says “the joy of the Lord
Yahweh is your strength”. Nehemiah had to fight and build the wall of Jerusalem at
the same time, and he kept going against the odds.
Laughing is a form of exercise; a good belly laugh gives your whole body a workout,
your cells respond to laughter; your muscles shrink and your lungs expands which
releases hormones through out the blood stream.
God wants us to be joyful (Philippians 4:4) says “rejoice in the Lord always, and
again I say rejoice”. And in I Thessalonians 5:16-18 the Bible says “rejoice
evermore. Pray without ceasing. In every thing give thanks for this is the will of God
in Christ Jesus concerning you”.
As we rejoice, we draw in the power and protection of God (Psalms 16:11) says “You
will show me the path of life, in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand
there are pleasures for evermore”.
You can laugh when you think that nothing is to hard for God (Jeremiah 32:27) says
“behold I am the Lord Yahweh, the God of all flesh; is there anything too hard for
Me”?
Psalms 126 says “when the Lord Yahweh turned again the captivity of Zion, we were
like them that dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, and our tongue with
singing, then said they among the heathen, the Lord Yahweh has done great things
for them. The Lord Yahweh has done great things for us; whereof we are glad.
Turn again our captivity, O Lord Yahweh, as the streams in the south. They that sow
in tears shall reap in joy. He that goes forth and weeps, bearing precious seed, shall
doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him”.
Remember that we can cast our cares on the Lord and ask Him for wisdom to come
out of any situation, as we put our trust in God, we can rejoice. God is our
defender. As we praise God for things in our life, our joy is elevated and we go from
glory to glory.
This type of joy is not just happiness, this joy can stand strong even in the midst of
sorrows (James 1:2-4) says “my brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers
temptations. Knowing this, that the trying of your faith works patience. But let
patience have her perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting
nothing”. It shows the enemy that you are not afraid of him.
As we choose to rejoice in the midst of our test, we are one step closer to victory (II
Corinthians 6:10) “as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing, as poor, yet making many rich,
as having nothing, and yet possessing all things”.
One might ask, how to rejoice? Ephesians 5:18-20 says “be not drunk with wine,
wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. Speaking to yourselves in psalms and
hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.
Giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father in the name of our Lord
Jesus Christ”.
We can rejoice because our name is written in the Lamb’s book of life (Luke 10:20).
We rejoice because we are a born again child of the most high God.
We are made in the image of God; and as Psalms 2:1-4 says “why do the heathen
rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves
and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord Yahweh, and against His
Anointed, saying. Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from
us. He that sits in the heavens shall laugh; the Lord Yahweh shall have them in
derision”. And we have to remember, that we are made in His image, Ephesians 2:6
says God “has raised us up together and made us sit together in heavenly places in
Christ Jesus”.
Proverbs 3:13-18 says “happy is the man that finds wisdom, and the man that gets
understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver,
and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies; and all the
things you can desire are not to be compared to her. Length of days is in her right
hand, and in her left hand riches and honor. Her ways are ways of pleasantness,
and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her, and
happy is every one that retains her”.
If you want to confuse the devil, laugh when things look bad; you can laugh because
you know that you have a covenant with the Almighty God (Job 5:20-22) says “in
famine He shall redeem you from death; and in war from the power of the sword.
You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue; neither shall you be afraid of
destruction when it comes. At destruction and famine you shall laugh; neither shall
you be afraid of the beasts of the earth”.
In Job 8:19-22 says “behold, this is the joy of His way and out of the earth shall
others grow. Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will He help the
evil doers. Till He fill your mouth with laughing, and your lips with rejoicing. They
that hate you shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall
come to nothing”.
In Job 22:18-22 says “yet He filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of
the wicked is far from me. The righteous see it and are glad, and the innocent laugh
them to scorn. Whereas our substance is not cut down, but the remnant of them the
fire consumes. Acquaint now yourself with Him, and be at peace; thereby good shall
come to you. Receive, I pray you, the law from His mouth, and lay up His words in
your heart”.
As you fill your heart with the word of God that comes against the circumstances of
your life, you can laugh too. Remember as Jesus was tempted in the wilderness by
the devil, he replied “it is written”, and then quoted what was contrary to what the
devil was asking, the devil left Him.
Remember the devil goes about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he can devour,
meaning he can not devour every one. The more word you have in your heart, the
stronger you will be.
