Studying
Studying is an important key to achieve kingdom success. God told Joshua “this
book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein
day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein;
for then you shall make your way prosperous and then you shall have good
success”.
God also gives instruction for kings (Deuteronomy 17:18-20) “and it shall be, when
he sits upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a
book out of that which is before the priests the Levites. And it shall be with him,
and he shall read therein all the days of his life that he may learn to reverence the
Lord Yahweh his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes to do
them. That his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside
from the commandment; to the right hand, or the left; to the end that he may
prolong his days in his kingdom he and his children, in the midst of Israel”.
The word of God is to be our guideline (Psalms 119:9-16) “wherewithal shall a
young man cleanse his ways? With my whole heart have I sought You, O let me
not wander from Your commandments. Your word have I hid in my heart, that I
might not sin against You. Blessed are You, O Lord Yahweh, teach me Your
statutes. With my lips have I declared all the judgments of Your mouth. I have
rejoiced in the way of Your testimonies as much as in all riches. I will meditate in
Your precepts, and have respect to Your ways. I will delight myself in Your
statutes, I will not forget Your word”.
To study – is to apply oneself, to apply the mind to, to investigate; and an earnest
endeavor application to books.
As one grows up from a child in the world, you have to go to school and study
things that will help you succeed in your career. Well, also as a born again
believer, we are told to study (Romans 15:4) “for whatsoever things were written
aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the
scriptures might have hope”. Proverbs 15:28 says “the heart of the righteous
studies to answer; but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things”. Remember
that we are to be slow to answer and quick to listen.
God the Father predestined for us to conformed to the image of His Son, that He
might be the firstborn among many brethren. And He made a way for us
(Ephesians 4:11-15) “and He gave some, apostles; and some prophets, and some
evangelists, and some pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints, for
the work of the ministry; for the edifying of the body of Christ. Till we all come in
the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to
the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. That we hereafter be no more
children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the
sleight of men, and cunning craftiness; whereby they lie in wait to deceive. But
speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head,
even Christ”. He gave us teachers to equip us. But don’t just take any man’s word,
but search the scriptures for yourself.
The Bereans were commended for checking out what they heard (Acts 17:10-12)
“and the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Bearea; who
coming there went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than
those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind,
and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many
of them believed; also of honorable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a
few”.
We are warned to be careful, because false teachers will come in and deceive
many (Ephesians 5:6-11) “let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of
these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not
you therefore partakers with them. For you were sometimes darkness, but now are
you light in the Lord; walk as children of light. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all
goodness and righteousness and truth. Proving what is acceptable to the Lord.
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness; but rather reprove
them”.
We are told “as you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in
Him. rooted and built up in Him, and stablished in the faith, as you have been
taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. Beware less any man spoil you
through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments
of the world, and not after Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead
bodily. And you are complete in Him, which is the head of all principality and
power” (Colossians 2:6-10).
Jesus says in John 8:30-32, “as He spoke these words, many believed on Him.
Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him. If you continue in My word,
then are you My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall
make you free”.
Paul tells Timothy “of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before
the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit; but to the subverting of the
hearers. Study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be
ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings;
for they will increase to more ungodliness. But continue you in the things which
you have learned and have been assured of, knowing of whom you have learned
them. And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to
make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is
given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished to all good works” (II Timothy 2:14-16; and 3:14-17).
Paul also writes to the Thessalonians “for God has not called us to uncleanness,
but to holiness. He therefore that despises, despises not man, but God, who has
also given to us His Holy Spirit. But as touching brotherly love you need not that I
write to you; for you yourselves are taught of God to love one another. And indeed
you do it toward all the brethren which are in all Macedonia; but we beseech you,
brethren, that you increase more and more. And that you study to be quiet, and to
do your own business, and to work with you own hands, as we commanded you.
That you may walk honestly toward them that are outside, and that you may have
lack of nothing” (I Thessalonians 4:7-12).
Our salvation is much too important to trust it with any person; many cults are
misleading many because they haven’t studied the Bible for themselves. You don’t
just read the Bible as a requirement to receive a reward; you study so you can
prove what is acceptable to God (Romans 12:1-2) “I beseech you therefore
brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed
to this world but be you transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may
prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God”. God’s will is His
word.
