Sowing Good Seed vs Evil
Jesus told us that the word is seed; as He explains the parable of the sower
(Luke 8:5-11), which says “a sower went out to sow his seed, and as he sowed,
some fell by the way side, and it was trodden down, and fowls of the air
devoured it. and some fell upon a rock, and as soon as it was sprung up, it
withered away, because it lacked moisture. And some fell among thorns, and
the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. And other fell on good ground, and
sprang up, and bare fruit an hundred fold. And when He had said these things,
He cried, he that has ears to hear, let him hear. And His disciples asked Him,
saying, what might this parable be? And He said, to you it is given to know the
mysteries of the kingdom of God, but to others in parables that seeing they
might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this,
the seed is the word of God”.
It shows us that the seed was planted on different ground and the harvest was
based on the condition of the ground. This parable also shows us that the
ground is a man’s heart. A heart that hears the word of God and gets
understanding of it will produce much fruit.
Psalms 68:11 says “the Lord Yahweh gave the word, great was the company of
those that published it” (proclaimed it). When we speak the word of God, we are
sowing seed into our life that will spring up (Mark 4:26-29), “and He said, so is
the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground. And should
sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he
knows not how. For the earth brings forth fruit of itself, first the blade, then the
ear, after that the full ear in the ear. But when the fruit is brought forth,
immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest is come”.
Let us listen to what we are saying. Remember (Mark 11:23-24), which Jesus
says “for verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, be you
removed, and be you cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall
believe that those things which he says shall come to pass, he shall have
whatsoever he says. Therefore I say to you, what things so ever you desire,
when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them”.
Jesus also tells us in Matthew 12:33-37, “either make the tree good, and its fruit
good, or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt, for the tree is known by
its fruit. O generation of vipers, how can you being evil, speak good things?
For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the
good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the
evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you, that every idle word that
men shall speak, they shall give account of in the day of judgment. For by your
words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned”. It is
what you speak that will either justify you or condemn you.
Jesus told us “not to take a bad thought saying” (Matthew 6:31). When you
repeat the thought, you are taking it. The only way that the devil can defeat any
one is to get them to say what he gives them to say, but Jesus said “I do nothing
of Myself, but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these things” (John 8:28).
The problem is that people have been talking contrary to God and because they
don’t see an immediate change, they think that nothing is happening, but God
set a principle in motion after the floor (Genesis 8:22), which says “while the
earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and
winter and day and night shall not cease”.
Many times it is not immediate, and it seems like seed, times-----, and harvest,
but Galatians 6:7-9, says “be not deceived; God is not mocked; for whatsoever a
man sows, that shall he also reap. For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh
reap corruption; but he that sows to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life
everlasting. And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall
reap, if we faint not”.
Be careful what you sow, don’t say it if you don’t want it. Remember that a trick
of the devil is to get you mad at someone and then you say something negative
about them, falling into the devil’s trap, but Jesus tells us to pray for those who
use us. This way you are sowing good seed.
Let’s turn to II Corinthians 9:6-11, “but I say, he which sows sparingly shall reap
also sparingly, and he which sows bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every
man according as he purposed in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of
necessity, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace
abound toward you, that you always having all sufficiency in all things, may
abound to every good work. As it is written, he has dispersed abroad; he has
given to the poor, his righteousness remains forever. Now He that ministers
seed to the sower both minister bread for your food,, and multiply your seed
sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness. Being enriched in every
thing to all bountifulness, which causes through us thanksgiving to God”.
Verses 6-7 shows it is how we sow, we will reap, and verses 8-11 shows that
God will minister seed to the sower. A sower is someone who gives to others.
