The Source of Truth
There is a saying “if you say something long enough, people will believe it to be truth",
but truth is conformity to fact or actuality, faithfulness to an original or to a standard.
Truth is the absence of lie. Truth is a moral and personal characteristic of God. God
is truth (Psalms 25:4-5) “show me Your ways, O Lord Yahweh; teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth, and teach me for You are the God of my salvation; on You do I
wait all the day”, the Holy Spirit is truth (John 16:13) “however, when He, the Spirit of
truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth; for He shall not speak of Himself, but
whatsoever, He shall hear, that shall He speak; and He will show you things to come”,
and Jesus is truth (John 14:6) “Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life,
no man comes to the Father but by Me”. Truth is that which is real and can be
verified and confirmed.
Evolution can’t be confirmed or experienced; that’s why they use millions of years to
explain anything, for example they say that the world started with the big band where
slime turned into tadpoles, they go on through many changes from one thing into
another, but without proof; because when you go to the zoo, you will see that all
monkeys and apes only produce monkeys and apes to this day.
People are trying to get wisdom and knowledge from mankind, but the Bible tells us
that there is a wisdom that man teaches; but the natural man receives not the things
of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him, neither can he know them,
because they are spiritually discerned (I Corinthians 1:13-14);and in Ecclesiastes (1:
18) “for in much wisdom is much grief; and he that increases knowledge increases
sorrow”. Getting knowledge other than from God will lead to destruction. Many
people have fallen away because they have heard a voice or was visited by an angel
and didn’t check it out by the word of God.
People say that the Bible we have now is not the real deal, but when they found the
dead see scrolls in 1948 they compared them to the Bible of today and they are the
same. Places in the Bible which were thought to be not real, have been found and
identified. Archaeology is revealing more and more evidence that the Bible is true.
In Scripture, truth is a very important concept because God is the God of all truth, who
speaks and judges truly. He is the real source and cause of the whole universe.
Scripture also focuses on God’s divine revelation of truth in the gospel message of
redeeming grace through Christ. This is the truth that Jesus and the apostles
proclaimed.
II Timothy 3:16 says “all scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”. We are supposed to study to
show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly
dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15). If the word can be rightly divided, it can
be wrongly divided as well. Paul writes to the Corinthians that in the mouth of two or
three witnesses shall every word be established.
This is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our
lives, it straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. The Bible tells us how to
distinguish truth by judging it against the word of God (II Corinthians 10:5) “casting
down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of
God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. We have o
let the word of God have the final authority in our lives.
Many times in scripture we are warned of false teaches (Matthew 7:15) “beware of
false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening
wolves”; (Matthew 24:11,24) Jesus says “and many false prophets shall rise, and shall
deceive many. For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall show
great signs, and wonders, insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the
very elect”; (II Peter 2:1-2) “but there were false prophets also among the people,
even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable
heresies, even denying the Lord that bought then, and bring upon themselves swift
destruction. And many shall follow their shameful ways; by reason of whom the way of
truth shall be evil spoken of”; (I John 4:1) “beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the
spirits whether they are of God; because many false prophets are gone out into the
world”.
There seems to be so many gray areas, when it comes to right and wrong. Let us
heed these warnings and keep ourselves grounded in the word of God. This life is
one we can not live by ourselves, but should be relied on the word of God. Men say
“you only live once, so enjoy it, cause when you die you are done”, but we don’t only
live once, we live eternally somewhere, you have to decide whether with God or with
the devil; we have to choose.
God saw a truthful quality in Abraham, He said “seeing that Abraham shall surely
become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in
him. For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him
and they shall keep the way of the Lord Yahweh, to do justice and judgment, that the
Lord Yahweh may bring upon Abraham what which He has spoken of him”.
The Old Testament teaching was never false, but it was veiled and incomplete in
comparison with the revealed truth of the New Testament. Christ made spiritual things
real (John 1:17) “for the law was given by Moses, and grace and truth came by Jesus
Christ”. Christ is the truth because being God, His words carry divine authority. They
are truth and life (John 6:63).
When people live in obedience to the truth, they themselves are true and trustworthy,
they will do what they say they will do; scripture calls upon people to “do the truth”
(John 3:21). God has given us the Holy Spirit who will help us live obediently, He will
alert us when our old sinful nature is trying to take over. God has also given us His
word, the Bible, which clearly tells us many things that are absolutely right and
absolutely wrong.
Jesus said “if you continue in My word, then are you My disciple indeed. And you
shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:3132). The devil tries
to disguise or even hide the truth so people won’t be free (II Corinthians 4:3-4) “but if
our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost. In whom the god of this world has
blinded the min ds of them which believe not, less the light of the glorious gospel of
Christ, who is the image of God, should shine to them”.
Paul reveals that God expects us to follow truth (Romans 2:6-10) “Who will render to
every man according to his deeds. To them who by patient continuance in will doing
seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life. But to them that are
contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and
wrath. Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that does evil, or the Jew first
and also to the Gentile. But glory, honor, and peace to every man that works good, to
the Jew first and also to the Gentile”.
