Remembering the Birth of Jesus Christ
The Bible says in John 1:1-4, 14) “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word
was with God, and the Word was God. The Same was in the beginning with
God. All things were made by Him, and without Him was not any thing made that
was made. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the Word was
made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the
only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth”.
Jesus came to undo what the devil tricked Adam and Eve to do (Genesis 3:1-8)
“now the serpent was more subtle than any beast of the field which the Lord God
had made. And he said to the woman, Yea, has God said, you shall not eat of
every tree of the garden? And the woman said to the serpent; we may eat of the
fruit of the trees of the garden. But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of
the garden, God has said, you shall not eat of it, neither shall you touch it, less
you die. And the serpent said to the woman, you shall not surely die. For God
does know that in the day you eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and
you shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the
tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be
desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave
also to her husband with her; and he did eat. And the eyes of them both were
opened, and they knew that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves
together, and made themselves aprons. And they heard the voice of the Lord
God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid
themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden”.
They went against a command of God and instead they obeyed the devil
(Romans 6:16) “know you not, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to
obey, his servants you are to whom you obey; whether of sin to death, or of
obedience to righteousness”?
God prophesied to the devil in Genesis 3:14-15 “and the Lord God said to the
serpent, because you have done this, you are cursed above all cattle, and
above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go, and dust shall you
eat all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head, and you shall
bruise your heel”.
The apostle Paul revealed the undoing in (Romans 5:12,15-19) “wherefore, as
by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death
passed upon all men; for that all have sinned. But not as the offence, so also is
the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the
grace of God, and the gift by grace; which is by One man, Jesus Christ has
abounded to many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift for the
judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences to
justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they
which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in
life by One, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came
upon all men to condemnation, even so by the righteousness of One the free gift
came upon all men to justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience
many were made sinners, so by the obedience of One shall many be made
righteous”.
An angel was sent to the virgin Mary to announce that she was going to give
birth to the Holy child (Luke 1:26-35, 38) “and in the sixth month the angel
Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, named Nazareth. Toa virgin
espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David, and the
virgin’s name was Mary. And the angel came in to her, and said, Hail, you that
are highly favored, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women. And
when she saw him, she was troubled of his saying; and cast in her mind what
manner of salutation this should be. And the angel said to her, fear not Mary; for
you have found favor with God. And, behold, you shall conceive in your womb,
and bring forth a son; and shall call His name JESUS. He shall be great, and
shall be called the Son of the Highest, and the Lord God shall give to Him the
throne of His father David. And He shall reign over the house of Jacob forever,
and of His kingdom there shall be no end. Then said Mary to the angel, how
shall this be, seeing I know not a man? And the angel answered and said to her,
the Holy Spirit shall come upon you, and the power of the Highest shall
overshadow you, therefore also that Holy thing which shall be born of you shall
be called the Son of God. And Mary said, behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it
to me according to your word, and the angel departed from her”.
Joseph was warned in a dream not to put away Mary (Matthew 1:18-24) “now the
birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise; when as His mother Mary was engaged to
Joseph; before they came together she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.
Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make her a public
example, was minded to put her away secretly. But while he thought on these
things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying,
Joseph, you son of David, fear not to take to you Mary your wife; for that which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she shall bring forth a son, and you
shall call His name JESUS; for He shall save His people from their sins. Now all
this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the
prophet saying. Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a Son,
and they shall call His name Immanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
Then Joseph being raised from sleep, did as the angel of the Lord had bidden
him, and took to him his wife”.
Following orders of Caesar Augustus’ decree, all went to be taxed, every one
into his own city and Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth
into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of
the house and lineage of David. And so it was, that while the were there the
days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth
her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a
manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
An angel announced to the shepherds in the field, the birth of Jesus Christ (Luke
2:9-17) “and, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the
Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid. And the angel said to
them, fear not; for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to
all people. For to you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, which is
Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign to you; you shall find the babe wrapped
in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a
multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying. Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace good will toward men. And it came to pass, as the
angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to
another, let us now go even to Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to
pass, which the Lord has made known to us. And they came with haste, and
found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. And when they had
seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this
Child”.
Jesus says Himself in John 10:10 “the thief comes not but for to steal, and to kill
and to destroy, I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it
more abundantly”. Jesus made an agreement with Father God to come and
redeem us (Philippians 2:6-8) “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not
robbery to be equal with God. But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon
Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being
found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself, and became obedient to death,
even the death of the cross”.
These are the facts, now let us remember the birth of Jesus Christ. Jesus came
to save us and reconcile us back to God as we were before the fall of Adam (II
Corinthians 5:21) “for He (God) has made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, who knew
no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”. And in
(Ephesians 1:3-7) “blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who
has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. According
as He has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be
holy and with out blame before Him in love. Having predestinated us to the
adoption of children by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure
of His will. To the praise of the glory of His grace, wherein He has made us
accepted in the beloved. In whom we have redemption through His blood, the
forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace”.
