Pray the Word

God is our righteous Judge, and when we come before Him, we have to have our
case laid out, based on the foundation of His word.  We are told to come boldly
before the throne of grace (Hebrews 4:1, 11-12, 14-16) “let us therefore fear, less a
promise being left us of entering into His rest, any of you should seem to come short
of it.  Let us labor therefore to enter into that rest, less any man fall after the same
example of unbelief.  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than
any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of
the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus
the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  For we have not a high priest which
cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like
as we are, yet without sin.  Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that
we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need”.

Hebrews 10:19-23 continues to say “having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter
into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.  By a new and living way, which He has
consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, His flesh.  And having an high
priest over the house of God.  Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of
faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed
with pure water.  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for He
is faithful that promised”.

God told us to bring Him in remembrance of His word (Isaiah 43:25-26) “I, even I, am
He that blots out your transgressions for My own sake, and will not remember your
sins.  Put Me in remembrance; let us plead together; declare you that you may be
justified”.

A good example is Hezekiah, how he stated his case and won the victory (II Kings 20:
1-6) “in those days was Hezekiah sick to death.  And the prophet Isaiah the son of
Amoz came to him, and said to him, thus says the Lord Yahweh, set your house in
order; for you shall die, and not live.  Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed
to the Lord Yahweh, saying.  I beseech You, O Lord Yahweh, remember now how I
have walked before You in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which
is good in Your sight.  And Hezekiah wept sore.  And it came to pass, afore Isaiah
was gone out into the middle court, that the word of the Lord Yahweh came to him,
saying.  Turn again, and tell Hezekiah the captain of My people.  Thus says the Lord
Yahweh, the God of David your father, I have heard your prayer, I have seen your
tears; behold, I will heal you; on the third day you shall go up to the house of the
Lord Yahweh.  And I will add to your days fifteen years, and I will deliver you and this
city out of the hand of the king of Assyria; and I will defend this city for My own sake,
and for My servant David’s sake”.

We have to state our case standing on His word (Psalms 68:11) “the Lord gave the
word; great was the company of those that published it”.

We have to return His words back to Him (Isaiah 55:6-11) “seek you the Lord
Yahweh while He may be found, call you upon Him while He is near.  Let the wicked
forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the
Lord Yahweh, and He will have mercy upon him; and to our God for He will
abundantly pardon.  For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways
My ways, says the Lord Yahweh.  For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so
are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.  For as the
rain comes down and the snow from heaven, and returns not there, but waters the
earth, and makes it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and
bread to the eater.  So shall My word be that goes forth out of My mouth; it shall not
return to Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in
the thing whereto I sent it”.

Abraham made his case for the righteous of Sodom & Gomorrah (Genesis 18:20-26)
“and the Lord Yahweh said, because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and
because their sin is very grievous.  I will go down now, and see whether they have
done altogether according to the cry of it, which is come to Me and if not I will know.
And the men turned their faces from there, and went toward Sodom, but Abraham
stood yet before the Lord Yahweh.  And Abraham drew near, and said, will You also
destroy and not spare the place for the fifty righteous that are therein?  That be far
from You to do after this manner, to slay the righteous with the wicked; and that the
righteous should be as the wicked, that be far from You.  Shall not the Judge of all
the earth do right?  And the Lord Yahweh, said, if I find in Sodom fifty righteous
inside the city, then I will spare all the place for their sakes”.  Abraham continued to
plead his case before God, until he got God to promise to spare the city if He found
Ten righteous in the city; however, there was not ten righteous found in the city, and
God destroyed it.

Moses made his case to spare the Israelites; this was when the people fashioned the
molten calf and worshipped it (Exodus 32:6-14) “and they rose up early on the
morrow, and offered burned offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people
sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.  And the Lord Yahweh said to
Moses, Go, get you down; for your people, which you brought out of the land of
Egypt, have corrupted themselves.  They have turned aside quickly out of the way
which I commanded them; they have made them a molten calf, and have worshiped
it, and have sacrificed thereto, and said, these be your gods, O Israel, which have
brought you up out of the land of Egypt.  And the Lord Yahweh said to Moses, I have
seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiff necked people.  Now therefore let Me
alone, that My wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I
will make of you a great nation.  And Moses besought the Lord Yahweh his God, and
said, Lord Yahweh, why does Your wrath wax hot against Your people, which You
have brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty
hand?  Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, for mischief did He bring
them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the
earth?  Turn from Your fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against Your people.
Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swear by Your
Own Self, and said to them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all
this land that I have spoken of will I give to your seed, and they shall inherit it for
ever.  And the Lord Yahweh repented of the evil which He though to do to His
people”.

We have to remember that God doesn’t want any to perish, but that all would turn to
the truth; and that God has told us to pray for our leaders and those in authority over
us; and is we don’t (Ezekiel 22:30-31) “and I sought for a man among them that
should make up the hedge, and stand in the gap before Me for the land, that I should
not destroy it; but I found none.  Therefore have I poured out My indignation upon
them, I have consumed them with the fire of My anger, their own way have I
recompensed upon their heads, says the Lord God”.

Now before you pray, you should search the scriptures to find God’s will, God’s word
on the subject (I John 5:14-15) says “and this is the confidence that we have in Him,
that, if we ask any thing, according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He
hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of
Him”.

It is possible to pray insincerely, irreverently, just as a person can say words that
they don’t really mean; such a prayer is a false prayer, because it shows no interest
in God’s power or purpose.  By contrast, true prayer, according to scripture, includes
faith in God’s power and will to accomplish what we ask.  We must be confident in
what we know of God’s will, and have faith in His almighty power, before we can ask
and receive the answer.  We must by faith, ask, and expect great things from God.
The prayer of faith lifts us above all outward circumstances.

Philippians 4:6-7 says “be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  And the
peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds
through Christ Jesus”.  But many Christians wait until they are anxious before they
begin to pray; resulting in begging, doubt and unbelief.

Remember that God watches over His word to perform it.  Hebrews 11:6 says “but
without faith it is impossible to please Him; for he that comes to God must believe that
He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”.  And that Romans
10:17 says “so then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”.

Many people are asking God for things from their fleshly lust, but Romans 8:5-8 says
“for they that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are
after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  for to be carnally minded is death; but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against God;
for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  So then they that are in
the flesh cannot please God”.  The Bible tells us many times “the just shall live by
faith”.

Jesus told us to pray that God’s kingdom and will be done on earth as it is in heaven
(Matthew 6:9-13), so let’s look how it was before Adam sinned (Genesis 1:31) “and
God saw every thing that He had made, and, behold, it was very good”.  Then let’s
look how Revelation 21:3-5 says it “and I heard a great voice out of heaven saying,
behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall
be His people, and God Himself shall be with them, and be their God.  And God shall
wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither
sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain; for the former things are
passed away.  And He that sat upon the throne said, behold, I make all things new.
And He said to me, write; for these words are true and faithful”.

Jesus told us to pray in His name, praying in His name is the same as praying in His
word, because Jesus is the word of God; let us look at how Peter and John spoke to
the lame man at the gate Beautiful (Acts 3:4-8) “and Peter, fastening his eyes upon
him with John, said, look on us.  And he gave heed to them, expecting to receive
something of them.  Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none, but such as I have
give I you; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.  And he took him
by the right hand, and lifted him up; and immediately his feet and ankle bones
received strength.  And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into
the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God”.

Ephesians 6:17-18 says “and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the
Spirit, which is the word of God.  Praying always with all prayer and supplication in
the Spirit, and watching thereto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints”.
Remember we are told to stand on the word of God.
