Our Real True God
People say that there is only one God, that is called by different names, and they
think that we are all serving the same God. But the answer to this is a loud
sounding No. Through out the Bible we see that this is not true.
As God spoke to the Israelites on Mount Sinai, He said “I am the Lord Yahweh
your God, which have brought you out of the land of Egypt; out of the house of
bondage. You shall have no other gods before Me. You shall not make to you
any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is
in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You shall not bow
down yourself to them, nor serve them, for I the Lord Yahweh your God am a
jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and
fourth generation of them that hate Me” (Exodus 20:1-5).
There are many pagan gods listed through out the Bible, the biblical references to
pagan gods begin with the statement that Terah, Abraham, and Nahor, when they
dwelt on the other side of the Rover that is, the Euphrates in Mesapotamia,
“served other gods” (Joshua 24:2). Ancient Mesopotamia covered the region that
is roughly equivalent geographically to present day Syria, Iraq, and Iran. The
prominent gods in Mesopotamia were those over heaven, air, and earth. Another
group was made up of those that controlled the heavenly bodies, the sun, the
moon, and the planet Venus (the morning star). In fact Ur, the city from which
Abraham came, was the center for worship of the moon god sin. As
Mesopotamian religion developed, each god had his or her own star, and the
worship of the stars became popular with the development of Astrology.
The worship of the sun, moon, and stars eventually spread across the entire
ancient world. Canaan reflects the practice, Beth Shemesh (Joshua 15:10)
means house of the sun god. Jericho (Numbers 22:1) means moon city, Joshua’s
miracle of the sun and the moon standing still takes on greater significance in light
of this fact. It was a demonstration of the sovereign power of the Lord God of
Israel over the pagan gods identified as the sun and the moon, worshiped in
pagan cities (Joshua 10:12-14) “then spoke Joshua to the Lord Yahweh in the day
when the Lord Yahweh delivered up the Amorites before the children of Israel, and
he said in the sight of Israel, sun, stand you stil upon Gibeon; and you, moon, in
the valley of Aijalon. And the sun stood still, and the moon stayed, until the
people had avenged themselves upon their enemies. Is not this written in the
book of Jasher? So the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and hasted not to
go down about a whole day. And there was no day like that before it or after it,
that the Lord Yahweh hearkened to the voice of a man; for the Lord Yahweh
fought for Israel”.
I was amazed of how many pagan gods there are, and there are many other
things that people make their gods, any thing that you put before the Lord
Yahweh is a foreign god; in this modern age people make money, careers, and
other things their god.
Even satan is called the god of this world in (II Corinthians 4:4). Jesus tells many
“Jesus said to them, if God were your God, you would love Me; for I proceeded
forth and came from God, neither came I of Myself, but He sent Me. Why do you
not understand My speech? Even, because you cannot hear My word. You are of
your father the devil, and the lust of your father you will do, he was a murderer
from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him.
when he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own; for he is a liar, and the father of it”
(John 8:42-47). Paul says in Romans 16:17-18 “I beseech you, brethren, mark
them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have
learned; and avoid them. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ,
but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches, deceive the hearts of
the simple”. Also in Philippians 3:18-20 he warns them saying “for many walk of
whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the
enemies of the cross of Christ. Whose end is destruction, whose god is their
belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things. For our
citizenship is in heaven; from where also we look for the Savior, the Lord Jesus
Christ”.
The characterizes on the One True and living God are listed through out the Bible
and they are vastly different from the many pagan gods (I John 4:16-21) says
“and we have known and believed the love that God has to us, God is love and he
that dwells in love, dwells in God, and God in him. Herein is our love made
perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment, because as He is, so
are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear;
because fear has torment. He that fears is not made perfect in love. We love
Him, because He first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hates his brother, he
is a liar; for he that loves not his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God
whom he has not seen? And this commandment have we from Him, that he who
loves God love his brother also”. And in I John 3:6-8, it says “whosoever abides in
Him sins not; whosoever sins has not seen Him, neither known Him. Little children,
let no man deceive you; he that does righteousness is righteous, even as He is
righteous. He that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sinned from the
beginning, for this purpose the Son of God was manifested that He might destroy
the works of the devil”. In Romans 6:16 it says “know you not, that to whom you
yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants you are to whom you obey,
whether of sin to death, or of obedience to righteousness”? Just like the devil
tricked Adam and Eve in the garden, and getting them to obey him, he is still trying
the same thing today. The Muslims’ god teaches his followers to hate and kill
anyone that does not convert to their religion. The Hindu have many gods that
they worship.
Other gods require for you to sacrifice your life or the life of your children, but God
calls this an abomination (Leviticus 18:21) “you shall not let any of your seed
(offspring) pass through the fire to Molech, neither shall you profane the name of
your God, I am the Lord Yahweh”. Deuteronomy 18:10 says “there shall not be
found among you any one that makes his son or his daughter to pass through the
fire, or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch”.
The Bible says in John 3:16-17 “for God so loved the world that He gave His only
begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have
everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through Him might be saved”.
A good way to know which God you are serving is based upon who He says He is,
God says many times “I am the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob” (Exodus 3:6,
Matthew 22:32, Mark 12:26, and Acts 7:32). If any one is trying to convince you
that we all serve the same God, ask them is their God is the God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob; and if they can’t say that you will know that they serve another
god.
