Our Communication
We communicate by what comes out of our mouth, and we are told to let no evil
communication come out of our mouth (Proverbs 4:24) says “put away from you a
forward (deceitful) mouth, and perverse lips put far from you”. Ephesians 4:25,29-
32 says “wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbor;
for we are members one of another. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of
your mouth; but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace
to the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby you are sealed to
the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamor, and
evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice. And be you kind one to
anther, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake has
forgiven you”. Also in Colossians 3:8-10 it says “but now you also put off all
these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Lie not one to another, seeing that you have put off the old man with his deeds.
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of
Him that created him”.
We don’t do this on our own; David prayed for God’s help in Psalms 19:13-14
which says “keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not
have dominion over me; then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the
great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord Yahweh, my strength and my redeemer”. The
psalmist of Psalms 71 says in verses 6-8 “by You have I been holden up from the
womb; You are He that took me out of my mother’s bowels; my praise shall be
continually of You. I am as a wonder to many; but You are my strong refuge. Let
my mouth be filled with Your praise and with Your honor all the day”.
We are either communicating good things or evil things every time we open our
mouth; and we must remember that “death and life are in the power of the tongue;
and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof” (Proverbs 18:21). Psalms 37:30
says “the mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his tongue talks of
judgment”.
Proverbs 6:2,12-15 says “you are snared with the words of your mouth, you are
taken with the words of your mouth. A naughty person, a wicked man, walks with a
forward (corrupt) mouth. Forwardness is in his heart, he devises mischief
continually; he sows discord. Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly;
suddenly shall he be broken without remedy”.
Lets look at what Jesus says in Matthew 12:33-37 “either make the tree good, and
its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt, and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is
known by its fruit. O generation of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good
things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man
out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things; and an evil man out
of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you, that every idle word
that men shall speak, the shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For
by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be condemned”.
Jesus also says in Matthew 15:11,18 “not that which goes into the mouth defiles a
man; but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. But those things
which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the
man”.
James 3:9-13 says “therewith bless we God, even the Father, and therewith curse
we men, which are made after the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth
proceeds blessing and cursing. My brethren these things ought not so to be.
Does a fountain send forth at the same place sweet water and bitter? Can the fig
tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? Either a vine, figs? So can no fountain
both yield salt water and fresh. Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge
among you? Let him show out of a good conversation his works with meekness of
wisdom”.
The Bible tells us the things which God hates (Proverbs 6:16-19) it says “these six
things does the Lord Yahweh hate; yea, seven are an abomination to Him. A
proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood. An heart that
devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief. A false
witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren”. As you
notice that three of these are things that comes out of the mouth.
In I Peter 3:8-12 says “finally, be you all of one mind, having compassion one of
another, love as brethren, be humble, be courteous. Not rendering evil for evil, or
railing for railing; but contrariwise blessing; knowing that you are thereunto called,
that you should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let
him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guild. Let him turn
from evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord
are over the righteous, and His ears are open to their prayers; but the face of the
Lord is against them that do evil”.
When you are in a tight spot, let your communication be one the word of God.
Jesus only spoke what He heard His Father speak (John 8:28-29) “then said Jesus
to them, when you have lifted up the Son of Man, then shall you know that I am
He, and that I do nothing of Myself, but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these
things. And He that sent Me is with Me; the Father has not left Me alone; for I so
always those things that please Him”.
Jesus when He was being tempted of the devil in the wilderness, was asked a
question “if You be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread”
and even after fasting for forty days and forty nights, and was hungry. He
answered and said, “it is written. Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every
word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”. We as followers of Christ and dear
children, must do the same thing. The devil has been defeated by Jesus over two
thousands years, and as we find the words of God that comes against what the
devil is tempting us with, we must answer the devil with the word of God.
