No Corrupt Communication
Corrupt – to deprave, to taint, to infect with errors. Words that go against the words
of God.
When the 12 spies were sent out to see the promise land, 10 of them came back
with an evil report and caused the whole congregation of Israelites to lift up their
voice, and cried out for fear. They came to the promise land and it was a land that
flowed with milk and honey, but they saw the people who was strong and the walled
cities and the giants, however, they saw themselves as grasshoppers.
All the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron; and the
whole congregation said to them. Would God that we had died in the land of
Egypt! Or would God we had died in this wilderness! And wherefore has the Lord
Yahweh brought us to this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children
should be a prey? Were it not better for us to return to Egypt?
God was angry with them “and the Lord Yahweh spoke to Moses and to Aaron,
saying. How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against
Me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur
against Me. Say to them, as truly as I live, says the Lord Yahweh, as you have
spoken in My ears, so will I do to you. Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness;
and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty
years old, and upward, which have murmured against Me. Doubtless you shall not
come into the land, concerning which I swear to make you dwell therein, save
Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun. But your little ones,
which you said should be a prey, them will I bring in and they shall know the land
which you have despised”.
Joshua and Caleb the other 2 spies came back saying let us go up at once, and
possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. They saw the same thing, yet they
believed that God was with them and cause them to overcome. And God caused
them to be the only ones over 20 years old and upward to enter at the end of the
40 years.
Many say that this is Old Testament, well Jesus says “you shall be justified or
condemned by your words (Matthew 12:32-37) “and whosoever speaks a word
against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whosoever speaks against the
Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to
come. Either make the tree good, and its fruit good; or else make the tree corrupt
and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. O generation of vipers, how
can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the
mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good
things; and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to
you, that every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account hereof in
the day of judgment. For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words
you shall be condemned”.
God hears us when we murmur and complain about things as well, also when we
are involved in gossip and talking about others. Let us learn from the Israelites
and guard our mouth. David prayed in Psalms 19:14 “let the words of my mouth,
and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O Lord Yahweh my
strength and my redeemer”.
Corrupt communication grieves God (Ephesians 4:26-32) “be you angry, and sin
not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath. Neither give place to the devil. Let
him that stole steal no more; but rather let him labor, working with his hands the
thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needs. Let no corrupt
communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of
edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers. And grieve not the Holy Spirit of
God, whereby you are sealed to the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and
wrath, and anger, and clamor, and evil speaking, be put away from you, wit all
malice. And be you kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another,
even as God for Christ’s sake has forgiven you”. The devil will bring people
against you to try to get you angry, in hopes of getting you to say something
corrupt.
Jesus tells us not to take a bad though saying it. It is when you speak that bad
though, you have taken it; and come into agreement with the devil.
Psalms 73:6-9 says “therefore pride compasses them about as a chain; violence
covers them as a garment. Their eyes stand out with fatness; they have more than
heart could wish. They are corrupt, and speak wickedly concerning oppression;
they speak loftily. They set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue
walks through he earth”.
Proverbs 18:21 tells us that death and life are in the power of the tongue. The
words of God brigs life while corrupt words bring death, we have to decide what we
want in our lives. God tells to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19) “I call heaven and
earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live”.
The apostle Paul writes to Timothy “if any man teach otherwise, and consent not to
wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine
which is according to godliness. He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about
questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil
surmisings. Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the
truth, supposing that gain is godliness; from such withdraw yourself”.
Chapter five and six teaches us how we should act, and gives us keys to overcome
(Ephesians 5:1-12,19) “be you therefore followers of God as dear children; and
walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given Himself for us an offering
and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor. But fornication, and all
uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not be once names among you, as becomes
saints. Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient
but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean
person, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of
God. let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of these things comes
the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not you therefore
partakers with them. For you were sometimes darkness, but now are you light in
the Lord, walk as children of light. For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and
righteousness and truth. Proving what is acceptable to the Lord. And have no
fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a
shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. Speaking
to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody
in your heart to the Lord”.
Ephesians 6:10,13-18 says “finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of His might. Wherefore take to you the whole armor of God that you may
be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore,
having your lions girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of
righteousness. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith you shall be able to quench all the
fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the
Spirit which is the word of God. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in
the Spirit, and watching thereto with all perseverance and supplication for the
saints”.
Paul writes “now thanks be to God which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and
makes manifest the savor of His knowledge by us to every place. For we are to
God a sweet savor of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish. To
the one we are savor of death to death, and to the other the savor of life to life.
And who is sufficient for these things? For we are not as many, which corrupt the
word of God, but as of sincerity, but as of God in the sight of God speak we in
Christ”.
Jude warns in Jude verses 10, 15-17 “but these speak evil of those things which
they know not, but what they know naturally, as brute beasts in those things they
corrupt themselves. To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly
committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken
against Him. These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts, and
their mouth speaks great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration
because of advantage. But, beloved, remember you the words which were spoken
before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ”.
