Mankind was Created to Reign on the Earth
We were created to have dominion on this earth (Genesis 1:26-28) “and God said,
let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness and let them have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the
earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created
man in His own image, in the image of God created He him, male and female created
He them. And God blessed them, and God said to them, be fruitful, and multiply,
and replenish the earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth”.
Dominion means to reign, to exercise lordship, bear rule, authority.
Adam fell short and gave his authority over to the devil, even though the devil was
parading himself as a snake, and Adam had power over him. The good news is that
Jesus came and reconciled us back to the Father; and the same dominion is
restored and available for us (Romans 5:17) “for if by one man’s (Adam) offence
death reigned by one, much more they which receive abundance of grace and of
the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ”.
There is a song which says “when we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing it will
be, when we all see Jesus, we will sing and short the victory”. Many people are
focused on going to heaven, and even though heaven is a temporary place for
believers who die before Jesus returns, we were made to have dominion on this
earth (I Corinthians 15:57-58) “but thanks be to God which give us the victory
through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be you steadfast,
unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, for as much as you know
that your labor is not in vain in the Lord”.
Jesus gave us back our power (Luke 10:19) Jesus said “behold, I give to you power
to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the enemy, and
nothing shall by any means hurt you”. Also in (Matthew 16:18-19; and 18:18) “and I
say also to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church, and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to you the keys (authority) of
the kingdom of heaven and whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
whatsoever is in heaven, we have the authority to bring down upon the earth, Jesus
teaches us to pray “after this manner therefore pray you; Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth,
as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread” (Mathew 6:9-11).
Let us use the dominion that God gave to us (Psalms 8:4-6) which says “what is
man, that You are mindful of him, and the son of man, that You visit him. For You
have made him a little lower then Elohim, and have crowned him with glory and
honor. You made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have
put all things under his feet”.
The Bible also says “the heavens, even the heavens are the Lord Yahweh’s, but the
earth has He given to the children of men” (Psalms 115:16). Let us read carefully
Psalms 82 which says “God stands in the congregation of the mighty, He judges
among the gods. How long will you judge, unjustly, and accept the persons of the
wicked? Selah. Defend the poor and fatherless, do justice to the afflicted and
needy. Deliver the poor and needy, rid them out of the hand of the wicked. They
know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness, all the foundations
of the earth are out of course. I have said, you are gods, and all of you are children
of the Most High. But you shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. Arise,
O god, judge the earth, for you shall inherit all nations”.
Many people blame God for the condition of this world, but as we read in II
Corinthians chapter 4 that the devil is the god of this world and he has blinded the
minds of mankind; verses 3-4 says “but if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are
lost. In whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not,
less the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine
to them”. Remember that we have the authority.
Our authority is released by what we say, remember that we are made in the image
and likeness of God. God said and God saw, and mankind are saying and seeing
as well. Remember that there is death and life in the power of the tongue (Proverbs
18:21). Jesus said “the words that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life”
(John 6:63).
Jesus tells us in Mark 11:22-24 “and Jesus answering said to them, have faith in
God. For verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this mountain, be you
removed and be you cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall
believe that those things which he says shall come to pass, he shall have
whatsoever he says. Therefore I say to you, what things so ever you desire, when
you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them”. This He taught
after He cursed the fig tree which had leaves and no fruit. He spoke to the tree and
said “no man eat fruit of you hereafter for ever and His disciples heard it”. The next
day as they were returning the tree was dried up from the roots.
Jesus is our example, He came as a man to show us how to use our authority. He
spoke to the wind and storms and it obeyed Him. Jesus rebukes His disciples for
their unbelief (Matthew 17:20) “and Jesus said to them, because of your unbelief; for
verily I say to you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say to this
mountain, remove here to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be
impossible to you”. He told them this when they asked, why they could not cast out
the demon out of the man’s son.
We are to speak to our mountains (problems) and tell them where to go, however
many are saying what they have, and getting upset and even blaming God when
nothing is changing. If you continue to say what you have, you will have what you
say. If you want to change what you have, say what you want, so you can have what
you say. The key is that you can’t say one thing and then say the other, remember
that James says “but let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavers is like
a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he
shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”
James 1:6-8). In other words you have to say what you mean and mean what you
say. We are told to let our yea, be yea, and our nay, nay.
Psalms 68:11 says “the Lord gave the word, great was the company of those that
published it”. Job says “you shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to
you; and the light shall shine upon your ways” (Job 22:28); and Psalms 107:2 says
“let the redeemed of the Lord Yahweh say so, whom He has redeemed from the
hand of the enemy”. Let us examine what we are saying.
The way that Jesus our example defeated the devil, was to proclaim “it is written”,
every time the devil tried to tempt Him, and He spoke what the word said in contrast
to what the devil brought to Him (Matthew 4:1-11 and Luke 4:1-13). Now, if Jesus
used this method, and we are told to be followers of Christ as dear children; let us
use this proven method to defeat the devil from our lives as well. Remember, as we
resist the devil, he has to flee from us. As we begin to understand our authority and
dominion, let us rise up and turn our world upside down, just as the early church did.
