Magnifying God
Magnify means to make great or greater, to extol, to exalt.
When we magnify God we make Him bigger than any problem in our life; thereby
realizing that with Him all things are possible.
David is a good example for us, because we know that David was anointed king
over Israel, yet he had to run for his life for over 13years, because King Saul
refused to let go of the kingdom even after the prophet Samuel told him that God
had taken it out of his hands. We also see that by David magnifying God, he
received the courage to fight the giant Goliath.
Just reading through the Psalms you see David’s heart as he would magnify God,
lets look at (Psalms 18:46-49) “the Lord Yahweh live, and blessed by my rock,
and let the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God that avenges me, and
subdues the people under me. He delivers me from my enemies, yea, You lift me
up above those that rise up against me. You have delivered me from the violet
man. Therefore will I give thanks to you, O Lord Yahweh, among the heathen,
and sing praises to Your name”.
Psalms 30:1-4 which says “I will extol You, O Lord Yahweh, for You have lifted me
up, and have not made my foes to rejoice over me. O Lord Yahweh, You have
brought up my soul from the grave; You have kept me alive, that I should not go
down to the pi. Sing to the Lord Yahweh, O you saints of His and give thanks at
the remembrance of His holiness”.
Psalms 34:1-4 which says “I will bless the Lord Yahweh at all times, His praise
shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the Lord
Yahweh, the humble shall hear thereof and be glad. O magnify the Lord Yahweh
with me, and let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord Yahweh, and He
heard me, and delivered me from all my fears”.
Psalms 69:30-34 says “I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify
Him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the Lord Yahweh better than an ox
or bullock that has horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this, and be glad, and
your heart shall live that seek God. For the Lord Yahweh hears the poor, and
despises not His prisoners. Let the heaven and earth praise Him, the sea, and
everything that moves therein”.
Psalms 145:1-3 says “I will extol You, my God, O king; and I will bless Your name
for ever and ever. Every day will I bless You; and I will praise Your name for ever
and ever. Great is the Lord Yahweh, and greatly to be praised; and His
greatness is un-searchable”.
We also see the psalmist that wrote Psalms 66:16-17 says “come and hear, all
you that reverence God, and I will declare what He has done for my soul. I cried
to Him with my mouth, and He was extolled with my tongue”. Psalms 97:9 says
“for You, Lord Yahweh are high above all the earth, You are exalted far above all
gods”. And Psalms 118:27-29 the psalmist wrote “God is the Lord Yahweh, which
has showed us light, bind the sacrifice with cords, even to the horns of the altar.
You are my God, and I will praise You; You are my God, I will exalt You. O give
thanks to the Lord Yahweh, for He is good; for His mercy endures forever”.
One might say, how can we magnify God? He is already God, but when to talk of
the good things which God does, we magnify him above our problems, and
become bold enough to step out on what God has called us to do.
We draw closer to God when we magnify Him (Psalms 100) “make a joyful noise
to the Lord Yahweh all you lands. Serve the Lord Yahweh with gladness, come
before His presence with signing. Know you that the Lord Yahweh, He is God. It
is He that has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep
of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with
praise; be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the Lord Yahweh is good,
His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations”.
Lets look at some others who magnified God; even king Nebuchadnezzar
magnified God after he spoke claiming that he built Babylon (Daniel 4:30-32) “the
king spoke, and said, is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of
the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honor of my majesty? While
the word was in the king’s mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king
Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken, the kingdom is departed from you. And
they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the
field; they shall make you to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over
you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to
whomsoever He will”. After seven years the king came to himself and says in
Daniel 4:37 “now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honor the King of
heaven, all whose works are truth, and His ways judgment; and those that walk in
pride He is able to abase”,
Hannah was barren, and she wanted children, so she went to the temple and
prayed to God and thereby promised God that she would give her son to Lord
Yahweh, and she fulfilled her promise and praised God (I Samuel 2:1-2) “and
Hannah prayed, and said, my heart rejoices in the Lord Yahweh, my horn is
exalted in the Lord Yahweh, my mouth is enlarged over my enemies; because I
rejoice in Your salvation. There is none holy as the Lord Yahweh, for there is
none beside You, neither is there any rock like our God”.
Mary the mother of Jesus magnified God when she realized that she was to bear
the Savior (Luke 1:46-50) “and Mary said, my soul does magnify the Lord. And
my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior. For He has regarded the low estate of
His handmaiden; for, behold, from hereafter all generations shall call me
blessed. For He that is mighty has done to me great things; and holy is His
name. And His mercy is on them that reverence Him from generation to
generation”.
Cornelius the centurion, a devout man, and one that reverenced God with all his
house, as he prayed, he was told to send to Jopha and call Simon Peter. After
Peter arrived and preached the word, the Bible says “while Peter yet spoke these
words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. And they of the
circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter,
because tat on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. For
they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God” (Acts 10:44-46a).
Magnifying God, does not actually make God bigger, but it makes the way you
see God as bigger.
