Keeping His Commandments

Many people say “we don’t have to keep the commandment any more, because
Jesus kept them for us”, but Jesus said “if you love Me you will keep My
commandments” (John 14:15); “he that has My commandments and keeps them,
he it is that loves Me and he that loves Me shall be loved of My Father, and I will
love him, and will manifest Myself to him” (John 14:21).  Jesus kept the Father’s
commandments (John 14:31) “But that the world may know that I love the Father
and as the Father gave Me commandment, even so I do”; “If you keep My
commandments you shall abide in My love, even as I have kept My Father’s
commandments and abide in His love” (John 15:10).  We are told to imitate Jesus.
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for not keeping the commandment of God (Matthew
15:3-6) “why do you also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
For God commanded, saying honor your father and mother, and he that curses
father or mother, let him die the death.  But you say, whosoever shall say to his
father or his mother, it is a gift by whatsoever you might be profited by me.  And
honor not his father or his mother, he shall be free.  Thus have you made the
commandment of God of none effect by your traditions”.

You can’t keep the commandments outwardly in the flesh, Romans 5:5 says “the
love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Spirit which is given to us”.
You keep the commandments from the heart.  Remember God said “this shall be
the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, says the
Lord Yahweh, I will put My law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts, and
will be their God and they shall be My people” (Isaiah 31:31).

People want to be spiritual without being holy, Jesus told the Pharisees in Mark 7:
6-9 “well has Isaiah prophesied of you, hypocrites, as it is written, this people
honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me.  However in vain do they
worship Me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.  For laying aside
the commandments of God, you hold the tradition of men, as the washing of pots,
and cups, and many other such like things you do.  And He said to them, full well
you reject the commandment of God, that you may keep your own tradition”.

I don’t believe that any one can have that personal relationship that is set for us to
have, if we continue to violate His commandments. (I John 1:6-7) “if we say that we
have fellowship with Him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth.  But if
we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and
the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin”; “and hereby we do
know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.   He that says, I know Him,
and keeps not His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.  But whoso
keeps His word, in him verily is the love of God perfected hereby know we that we
are in Him.  He that says he abides in Him ought himself also so to walk, even as
He walked” (I John 2:3-6); and “whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born
of God, and every one that loves Him that begat loves Him also that is begotten of
Him.  By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and
keep His commandments.  For this is the love of God, that we keep His
commandments, and His commandments are not grievous”.  Jesus said “why call
Me, Lord Lord and do not the things which I say.  Whosoever comes to Me, and
hears My sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like.  He is like a
man which built a house and dig deep, and laid the foundation on a rock, and
when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house, and could not
shake it, for it was founded upon a rock.  But he that hears, and does not, is like a
man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth, against which the
stream did beat vehemently, and immediately it fell, and the ruin of that house was
great” (Luke 6:46-49).

Many people fall into colts and false religions because they don’t have a
relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  Jesus rounded the commandments
down to two (Matthew 22:37-40) “Jesus said to him, you shall love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  This is the
first and great commandment.  And the second is like to it, you shall love your
neighbor as yourself.  On these two commandments hang all the law and the
prophets”.  Jesus warns us what will come in the end times (Matthew 24:4-8, 11-
12) “take heed that no man deceive you.  For many shall come in My name
saying, I am Christ and shall deceive many.  And you shall hear of wars and
rumors of wars, see that you be not troubled, for all these thing must come to
pass, but the end is not yet.  For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom and there shall be famine, and pestilences, and earthquakes in
divers places.  All these are the beginning of sorrow…And many false prophets
shall rise, and shall deceive many.  And because iniquity shall abound, the love of
many shall wax cold”.  This sounds like what is happening now.

Jesus came and paid our sin price, so that we could be reconciled to God as
Adam was before the fall.  Adam walked in the cool of the day with God, and we
see that Adam operated in power by naming all the animals.  We being reconciled
to the Father are to have fellowship with God. The Bible says in Amos 3:3 “can
two walk together, except they be agreed?”  We have been reborn in Christ and
are to walk in Him (Ephesians 2:10 “for we are His workmanship, created in Christ
Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them”.
