It is Already Done
This week some call it Holy week, and it is because this week we get to
commemorate the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This is the week that God the Father, put Jesus Christ on the cross to defeat the
devil. The apostle Paul tells us that it is important to know why Jesus was
crucified, it says in I Corinthians 2:2-8 “for I determined not to know any thing
among you, save Jesus Christ, and Him crucified. And I was with you in
weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching
was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit
and of power. That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the
power of God. However we speak wisdom among them that are perfect; yet not
the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought. But
we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God
ordained before the world to our glory. Which none of the princes of this world
knew; for had they known it; they would not have crucified the Lord of glory”. The
devil thought that killing Jesus would confirm his victory.
I watched the movie “the Passion of the Christ” this week again, and looking at
what He went through was so grievous that we need to understand that He went
through all of that to restore us, reconcile us; He went through all of that because
He wanted to redeem us; Hebrews 12:2 says “looking to Jesus the author and
finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God”.
Also in (II Corinthians 5:17-21) it says “therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a
new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
And all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself by Jesus Christ, and
has given to us the ministry of reconciliation. To say, that God was in Christ,
reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them; and has
committ3ed to us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for
Christ, as though God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ’s stead, be
you reconciled to God. For He has made Him to be sin for us, who knew no sin;
that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”.
The words restore and reconciliation means to bring us back to our original state.
Let’s look at how we were before the fall of Adam (Genesis 1:28-29) “And God
blessed them, and God said to them, be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the
earth, and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the
fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth. And God
said, behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of
all the earth, and every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the
earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat; and it was
so”. God gave us dominion, in Psalms it says that God gave us the dominion of
His hand.
Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil (I John 3:8) “he that commits sin is of
the devil for the devil sinned from the beginning, for this purpose the Son of God
was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil”. Acts 10:38 says
“how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power; who
went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God
was with Him”.
Let’s look at what works the devil brought; he brought death into the world,
because Adam obeyed the devil, and ate of the tree which God told him not to
eat, and spiritual death came forth and mankind was separated from God
spiritually. Jesus said in John 10:10 “the thief comes not but for to steal, and to
kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it
more abundantly”.
Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection has restored us already. In Christ we were
made the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Our complete salvation was achieved through Calvary. The blood of Jesus
washed away our sin (Romans 5:17) “for if by one man’s offence (Adam) death
reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift
of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ”.
The stripes put on Jesus took away more than our sins; it also took away our pain
and sorrow, and brought us peace (Isaiah 53:4-5) “surely He has borne our
griefs, and carried our sorrows; yet we did esteem Him stricken, smitten of God,
and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our
iniquities, the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we
are healed”. Also in I Peter 2:24 it says “who His own self bare our sins in His own
body on the tree; that we being dead to sins, should live to righteousness; by
whose stripes you were healed”.
The early disciples understood what Jesus had accomplished, and they was able
to live a powerful life and they did the same things that Jesus did. The apostle
Paul was able to say “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.
The Bible says that they were able to turn their world upside down.
We are told in Philippians 2:5 “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus”.
Jesus said on the cross “it is finished”. Jesus Himself tells the Father in John 17:4
“I have glorified, You on the earth; I have finished the work which You gave Me to
do”. Let’s look back at what God prophecy to the serpent in the garden (Genesis
3:14-15) “and the Lord God said to the serpent, because you have done this, you
are cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly
shall you go, and dust shall you eat all the days of your life. And I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise
your head, and you shall bruise his heel”.
