Is He Your God?

Have you accepted Him as your heavenly Father, or is He some far away god, who has
no authority in your life?

Psalms 91 tells us the benefits of knowing that He is your God; it says “He that dwells
in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.  I will
say of the Lord Yahweh, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God in Him will I trust.
Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome
pestilence.  He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings shall you trust.
His truth shall be your shield and buckler.  You shall not be afraid for the terror by
night, nor for the arrow that flies by day.  Nor for the pestilence that walks in darkness;
nor for the destruction that wastes at noonday.  A thousand shall fall at your side, and
ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.  Only with your eyes
shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked.  Because you have made the Lord
Yahweh which is my refuge, even the Most High your habitation.  There shall no evil
befall you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.  For He shall give His
angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways.  They shall bear you up in their
hands, less you dash your foot against a stone.  You shall tread upon the lion and
adder; the young lion and the dragon shall you trample under feet.  Because he has
set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has
known My name.  He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him, I will be with him in
trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him.  with long life will I satisfy him, and show him
My salvation”.  This is God’s promise to us, and we know that God does not lie.

Jesus takes us closer (John 1:1-4,12), says “In the beginning was the Word, and the
Word was with God, and the Word was God.  the same was in the beginning with God.
All things were made by Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.
In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.  But as many as received Him, to them
gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name”.

Who is Jesus to you?  Jesus asked His disciples this question, then He commends
Peter for the revelation knowledge he received from God (Matthew 16:13-19), “when
Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples saying, whom
do men say that the Son of Man am?  And they said, some say that You are John the
Baptist; some, Elijah, and others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.  He says to them,
but whom say you that I am?  And Simon Peter answered and said, You are the Christ,
the Son of the living God.  And Jesus answered and said to him, blessed are you,
Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood has not revealed it to you, but My Father which is
in heaven.  And I say also to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build My
church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.  And I will give to you the keys
of the kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in
heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.

Jesus teaches His disciples to pray “Our Father” in Matthew 6:6-13 indicating our new
relationship; it says “but you, when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you
have shut your door, pray to your Father which is in secret; and your Father which
sees in secret shall reward you openly.  But when you pray, use not vain repetitions,
as the heathen do; for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.  Be
not you, therefore like to them, for your Father knows what things you have need of,
before you ask Him.  After this manner therefore pray you; Our Father which art in
heaven, Hallowed by Your name.  Your kingdom come, Your will be done in earth, as it
is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we
forgive our debtors.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for Yours
is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever, Amen.

Jesus also tells us to ask our Father for the things we have need of (Matthew 7:7-11),
which says “ask, and it shall be given you, seek and you shall find; knock, and it shall
be opened to you.  For every one that asks receives, and he that seeks finds; and to
him that knocks it shall be opened.  Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask
bread, will he give him a stone?  Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?  If you
then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall
your Father, which is in heaven, give good things to them that ask Him?

Paul teaches that God is our Father (Ephesians 1:1-7), “Paul, an apostle of Jesus
Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in
Christ Jesus.  Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord
Jesus Christ.  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has
blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.  According as He
has chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and
with out blame before Him in love.  Having predestinated us to the adoption of children
by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will.  To the praise of
the glory of His grace, wherein, He has made us accepted in the beloved.  In whom we
have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of
His grace”.

Paul also prayed for them to have their eyes opened so that they could see God as
Father (Ephesians 1:17-23), “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of
glory may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.  The
eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of
His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.  And what
is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe, according to the
working of His mighty power.  Which He wrought in Christ, when He raised Him from the
dead, and set Him at His own right hand in the heavenly places.  Far above all
principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not
only in this world, but also in that which is to come.  And has put all things under His
feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church.  Which is His body, the
fullness of Him that fills all in all”.  Remember that we are the body of Christ, and as
Jesus told us, that the works that He did, we should do also, and greater works than
these, because He goes to His Father (John 14:12).

As we believe that God is our Father, and that He will provide for us as we let Him, by
drawing near to Him.  Remember that in His presence there is fullness of joy.  The
Bible is the truth, and as we believe and stand on the word of God our life will be
changed.  Jesus said “if you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you shall ask
what you will, and it shall be done to you.  Herein is My Father glorified, that you bear
much fruit, so shall you be My disciples.  As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved
you; continue you in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you shall abide in My
love, even as I have kept My Father’s commandments, and abide in His love”.  This
sounds like what God told Joshua (Joshua 1:8), “this book of the law, shall not depart
out of your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you may observe
to do according to all that is written therein, for then you shall make your way
prosperous and then you shall have good success”.

God is not a respecter of persons, and this applies to us today as well.  Success
comes forth after we do our part of meditating on the word of God.
