Examine Yourself
Examine means test, prove, investigate, judge, discern.
We must examine why we do the things that we do (Philippians 2:2b-7a) “..that
you be like minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory, but in lowliness of mind, let
each esteem, others better than themselves. Look not every man on his own
things, but every man also on the things of others. Let this mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus. Who being in the form of God, through it not
robbery to be equal with God. But made Himself of no reputation, and took
upon Him the form of a servant”. In Galatians 5:26 we are told “let us not be
desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another’.
The good news is that what ever comes out as you examine yourself, you can
give it to Jesus and He will enable you to overcome it. David wrote in Psalms
26:2 “examine me, O Lord Yahweh, and prove me, try my reins and my heart”;
and in Psalms 139:23-24 “search me, O God, and know my heart, try me and
know my thoughts, and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in
the way everlasting”.
Are you trusting in what Jesus did? Or are you trying to perform in the flesh.
Thinking that you can be righteous enough to get into heaven. As long as you
are full of self-righteousness, you can not be filled with the righteousness of
God in Christ. We are told to let go and let God, Psalms 46:10 “be still, and
know that I am God”.
(I Corinthians 1:27-29) “God has chosen the foolish things of the world to
confound the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to
confound the things which are mighty. And base things of the world, and
things which are despised has God chosen, yea, and things which are not to
bring to nought things that are. That no flesh should glory in His presence”.
We are warned not to take communion without examining ourselves in I
Corinthians 11:27-31”wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this
cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of
that cup. For he that eats and drinks unworthily, eats and drinks damnation to
himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause many are weak and
sickly among you, and many sleep. For if we would judge ourselves, we should
not be judged”. This is not judging your sins and being sin conscience,
remember as you came to Christ your sins were forgiven. It’s like it says in II
Corinthians 13:5 “examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith, prove your
own selves. Know you not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you,
except you be reprobates”. Are there areas in your life, which you are still
trying to handle on your own? God wants to help you in every area of your life,
but He will not step in until you come to know that you need Him.
