Don’t Be Fooled

Many people are saying that there is only one God and that it doesn’t matter what
you call Him.  They also say that because God loves the whole world, He will not send
anybody to a hell forever.

Yes, God does love the whole world, the Bible tells us this in John 3:16, which says
“for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten So, that whosoever
believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”.  This is God’s way to
reconcile the world back to Himself.

God does not send anybody to hell; He is the one that has made the way for
everybody to be saved from hell fire.  Anybody that goes to hell is one tat rejects God’
s way (John 3:17-18,36) “for God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the
world; but that the world through Him might be saved.  He that believes in Him is not
condemned; but he that believes not is condemned already, because he has not
believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  He that believes on the Son
has everlasting life; and he that believes not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath
of God abides on him”.

God wants all to come to the knowledge of the truth; and the apostle Paul expresses
why we are to pray for people (I Timothy 2:1-4) “I exhort therefore that, first of all,
supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men.  For
kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in
all godliness and honesty.  For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our
Savior.  Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the
truth”.  Again in (II Peter 3:9) “the Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some
men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should
perish, but that all should come to repentance”.

Lets go back and answer their first statement; that there is only one God.  Through
out the Bible there is listed many false gods (Numbers 25:1-8) “and Israel abode in
Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.  And
they called the people to the sacrifices of their gods; and the people did eat, and
bowed down to their gods.  And Israel joined himself to Baal-peor, and the anger of
the Lord Yahweh was kindled against Israel.  And the Lord Yahweh said to Moses,
take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord Yahweh against
the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord Yahweh may be turned away from Israel.
And Moses said to the judges of Israel, slay you every one his men that were joined
to Baal-peor.  And behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought to his
brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the
congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the
tabernacle le of the congregation.  And when Phinehas, the son Eleazar; the son of
Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin
in his hand.  And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them
through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly.  So the plague was
stayed from the children of Israel”.

Joshua dealt with false gods (Joshua 24:14-15) “now therefore fear (reverence) the
Lord Yahweh, and serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which
your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve you the
Lord Yahweh.  And if it seem evil to you to serve the Lord Yahweh, choose you this
day whom you will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served, that were on
the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell: but
as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord Yahweh”.  It goes on in verse 31 to
state “and Israel served the Lord Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and the days of the
elders that survived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord Yahweh,
that He had done for Israel”.

Judges 2:11-14 says “and the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord
Yahweh, and served Baalim.  And they forsook the Lord Yahweh God of their fathers,
which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of
the people that were around them, and bowed themselves to them, and provoked the
Lord Yahweh to anger.  And they forsook the Lord Yahweh, and served Baal and
Ashtoroth.  And the anger of the Lord Yahweh was hot against Israel, and He
delivered them into the hands of spoilers that spoiled them, and He sold them into the
hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before
their enemies”.  Judges 3:5-7 says “and the children of Israel dwelled among the
Canaanites, Hittites, and Amorites, and Perizzites, and Hivites, and Jebusites.  And
they took their daughters to be their wives, and gave their daughters to their sons,
and served their gods.  And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord
Yahweh, and forgot the Lord Yahweh their God, and served Baalim and the groves
(idols)”.

Lets look at Judges 10:6-7 which says “and the children of Israel did evil again in the
sight of the Lord Yahweh, and served Baalim, and Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria,
and the gods of Zidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of
Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines, and forsook the Lord Yahweh, and served
not Him”.

Samson had to deal with the gods of the Philistines at his death (Judges 16:23-25,28-
30) “then the lords of the Philistines gathered together for to offer a great sacrifice to
Dagon their god, and to rejoice; for they said, our god has delivered into our hands
our enemy, and the destroyer of our country, which slew many of us.  And it came,
when their hearts were merry, that they said, call for Samson, that he may make us
sport.  And they called for Samson out of the prison house; and he made them sport;
and they set him between the pillars.  And Samson called to the Lord Yahweh, and
said O Lord God, remember me, I pray You, only this once, O God that I may be at
once avenged of the Philistines for my two eyes.  And Samson took hold of the two
pillars upon which the house stood, and on which it was borne up, of the one with his
right hand, and of the other with his left.  And Samson said, let me die with the
Philistines.  And he bowed himself with all his might; and te house fell upon the lords,
and upon all the people that were therein.  So the dead which he slew at his death
were more than they which he slew in his life”.

Elijah dealt with false gods (I Kings 18:21-26) Elijah like Joshua told the Israelites to
choose between the Lord Yahweh and the Baals.  In verse 18 he said “and Elijah
came to all the people, and said, How long will you hesitate between two opinions?  If
the Lord Yahweh be God, follow Him; but if Baal, then follow him, and the people
answered him not a word”.  But when Elijah told the prophets of Baal to make their
sacrifice to their god, and he would call upon the name of the Lord Yahweh; and the
God that answered by fire, let Him be God, and all the people answered and said, it is
well spoken.  The story says that the prophets of Baal cried out all day to their god
without success, but when Elijah called upon the Lord Yahweh his God, God
answered by fire and even sucked up all the water around the sacrifice.

There was punishment for following false gods (II Kings 1:2-4) “and Ahaziah fell down
through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick; and he sent
messengers, and said to them, go, enquire of Baal-zebub the god of Ekron whether I
shall recover of this disease.  But the angel of the Lord said to Elijah the Tishbite,
arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say to them, is it not
because there is not a God in Israel, that you go to enquire of Baal-zebub the god of
Ekron?  Now therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh, you shall not come down from the
bed on which you are gone up, but shall surely die, and Elijah departed”.

Lets look at what God did to the false god Dadon (I Samuel 5:1-4) “and the Philistines
took the ark of God, and brought it from Ebenezer to Ashdod.  When the Philistines
took the ark of God, they brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it be Dagon.
And when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon
his face to the earth before the ark of the Lord Yahweh.  And they took Dagon, and
set him in his place again.  And when they arose early on the morrow morning,
behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of the Lord
Yahweh; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands were cut off upon
the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him”.

Even in the New Testament we see that the apostle Paul had to deal with a false god
(Acts 19:24-28, 34-35)  a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made
silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain to the craftsmen.  He accused Paul of
persuading much people saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands.
He continued to say that because of this the temple of the great goddess Diana would
be despised, and caused a riot saying Great is the Diana of the Ephesians, trying to
get them to kill the apostle Paul.

There are others, even today there is a goddess Sheba, and also Budda which are
idols.

God Himself tells us that we shall have no other god before Him (Exodus 20:3, and
Deuteronomy 6:14-15) “you shall have no other gods before Me”,  You shall not go
after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you.  For the Lord
Yahweh your God is a jealous God among you, less the anger of the Lord Yahweh
your God be kindled against you, and destroy you from off the face of the earth”.

The apostle Paul warns us not to be deceived (Ephesians 5:1-8) we are instructed to
be followers of God as dear children, in Colossians 2:6-10 it says “as you have
therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in Him.  Rooted and built up in
Him, and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with
thanksgiving.  Beware less any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit,
after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  For in
Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily.  And you are complete in Him, which
is the head of all principality and power”.

The apostle John gives us a scale to go by (I John 3:7-8,10) “little children, let no man
deceive you; he that does righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous.  He
that commits sin is of the devil; for the devil sinned from the beginning; for this
purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the
devil.  In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil;
whosoever does not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loves not his
brother”.
