Dominion
Dominion was given to us by the Almighty God. God gave dominion of this earth
to mankind (Genesis 1:26-31) “and God said, let Us make man in Our image,
after Our likeness; and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over
the fowl of the air, and over the cattle and over all the earth; and over every
creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man in His own
image, in the image of God created He him; male and female created He them.
And God blessed them, and God said to them, be fruitful, and multiply, and
replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea,
and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the
earth. And God said, behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is
upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree
yielding seed, to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to
every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creeps upon the earth, wherein
there is life, I have given every green herb for meat; and it was so. And God saw
every thing that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And the evening
and the morning were the sixth day”.
The Bible says by the mouth of two or three witnesses, let a thing be
established. David the writer of Psalms 8 says in verse 3-9 speaking by the
Spirit “when I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the
stars, which You have ordained. What is man, that You are mindful of him? And
the son of man, that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than
(Elohim), and have crowned him with glory and honor. You made him to have
dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet.
All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field. The fowl of the air, and the
fish of the sea, and whatsoever passes through the paths of the seas. O Lord
Yahweh our Lord, how excellent is Your name in all the earth”.
Again in Psalms 115:16 the Bible says “the heaven, even the heavens, are the
Lord Yahweh’s; but the earth has He given to the children of men”.
What does dominion mean? Power to dominate; rule and reign; authority;
control. Looking at these meanings listed in Webster’s dictionary we can better
understand what God is saying to us in Psalms 82; it says “God stands in the
congregation of the mighty; He judges among the gods. How long will you judge
unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. Defend the poor and
fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; rid
them out of the hand of the wicked. They know not, neither will they understand;
they walk on in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are out of course. I
have said, you are gods; and all of you are children of the Most High. But you
shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes. Arise, O god, judge the earth;
for you shall inherit all nations”.
As you read in Romans chapter 5, after God gave dominion to Adam, Adam
disobeyed God’s authority and fell, giving his authority to the devil, and the devil
became the god of this world as it says in (II Corinthians 4:4). Romans chapter 5
shows us how the fall of mankind effected all of mankind, but it also shows us
how Jesus restored mankind. In verses 10-21 it says “for if, when we were
enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being
reconciled we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God
through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.
Wherefore, as by one man (Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin;
and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. For until the law sin
was in the world; but sin is not imputed when there is no law. Nevertheless death
reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the
similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of Him that was to come.
but not as the offence, so also is the free gift, for if through the offence of one
many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by
one man, Jesus Christ, has abounded to many. And not as it was by one that
sinned, so is the gift; for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free
gift is of many offences to justification. For if by one man’s offence (Adam) death
reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the
gift of righteousness shall reign in life by One, Jesus Christ. Therefore as by the
offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the
righteousness of One the free gift came upon all men to justification of life. For
as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of
One shall many be made righteous. Moreover the law entered, that the offence
might abound, but where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. That as
sin has reigned to death, even so might grace reign through righteousness to
eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord”.
In other words, our dominion has been given back to us through the death, burial
and resurrection of Jesus Christ and we are supposed to reign in life through
Christ.
You see that we have to believe that we have dominion, before we can walk in it
(Proverbs 23:7) says “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”.
In Job 22:28 it says “you shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to
you, and the light shall shine upon your ways”. The key is what we decree. Just
the way that God created by speaking, we must do the same.
You have to find out what belongs to you and declare that the devil takes his
hands off of what belongs to you. The devil is like a bully, but when we make our
demand, he has to let go. The problem is that people are not making a demand
for their stuff; even though they have the dominion, which gives them the right.
People are sitting back, waiting for God to do something, when we have the
authority (Matthew 16:19) Jesus says “and I will give to you the keys of the
kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in
heaven; and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
Jesus repeats this in Matthew 18:18-19 “verily I say to you, whatsoever you shall
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you shall loose on
earth shall be loosed in heaven. Again, I say to you, that if two of you shall
agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them
of My Father which is in heaven”.
