Developing Spiritually
Make the Bible the final authority. Develop confidence in the Word of God (II Timothy
3:15-17) Paul wrote to Timothy “that from a child you have known the holy scriptures,
which are able to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,
for correction, for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished to all good works”. Jesus said “man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).
Remember it said every word, reading the Bible is a way to get every word into our
spirits.
Grow in faith – feed your faith daily on the Word of God. Hebrews 11:6 “without faith
it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believe that He is, and
that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him”; so we must exercise our faith.
Your faith grows by what you say (Mark 11:22-24). Remember “with faith and
patience you inherit the promise” (Ecclesiastes 7:8; Romans 15:4; Hebrews 6:12).
Faith works by love. We must acknowledge what God has put in us, II Timothy 1:
7says “for God has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a
sound mind”; Philemon 1:6 says “that the communication of your faith may become
effectual by the acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”.
Meditate on the word day and night (Joshua 1:8).
Standing on the Word of God in faith; finding what applies to your circumstances and
studying the word on what corrects it. We are to bring every though under the
obedience of Christ (II Corinthians 10:5).
Exercise being led by the Spirit of God, the Bible says in Romans 8:5, 15-16 “for they
that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh, but they that are after the
Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For you have not received the spirit of bondage again
to fear, but you have received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba Father.
The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God”.
Galatians 5:16 tells us to “walk in the Spirit and you will not fulfill the lust of the flesh”.
Then goes on in verse 19-23 lists for us the works of the flesh, and the fruit of the
Spirit.
We have to crucify your flesh – exercise control over your flesh. Romans 8:6-8 says
“for to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
Because the carnal mind is enmity against God, for it is not subject to the law of God,
neither indeed can be. So then, they that are in the flesh cannot please God”. Paul
explains for us to die to self (Galatians 2:20) “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I
live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me and the life which I now live in the flesh, I live by
the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me”. Then he says
in Galatians 5:24-25 “they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections
and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”. Paul warns that “bodily
exercise profits little, but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life
that now is and of that which is to come” (I Timothy 4:8).
Get understanding – Jesus told a parable about the sower (Mark 4:13-20), satan can
only take the word that you don’t understand. The Bible says “with all your getting
get understanding” (Proverbs 3;13, 4:7). Paul tells the Colossians church “for this
cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire
that you might be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual
understanding. That you might walk worthy of the Lord to all pleasing, being fruitful
in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God. Strengthened with all
might, according to His glorious power, to all patience and longsuffering with
joyfulness” (Colossians 1:9-11). Our ability to understand scripture correctly is given
by the Spirit (John 16:13), Jesus said “He, the Spirit of truth, will guide you into all
truth”. We have to train ourselves to listen to the Spirit by following the Word of
God. We are to be so dominated by the Spirit that we can be called spiritual
(Galatians 6:1-2). Focus on the finished work of Christ and realize that the devil is
defeated. Go to the throne room boldly with confidence, thanking God for the
answers to your circumstances. I John 5:14-15 says “and this is the confidence that
we have in Him, that, if we ask any thing according to His will, He hears us. And if we
know that He hears us whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that
we desired of Him”.
We must exercise our authority. Jesus in Luke 10:19 gave us all authority. In
Matthew 16:19, 18:18, we are told “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven
and whatsoever you shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever
you shall loose on earth shall be looses in heaven”, I did a study on binding and
loosing, that you can refer to. Jesus tell us to “speak to the mountain” (Mark 11:23).
Job says we are to “decree and declare a thing and it shall be established (Job 22:
28). Remember we have dominion (Genesis 1:28). We must resist the devil. You
resist the devil just like Jesus did, quoting the word that cancels out what he says, “it
is written”.
Practice being in agreement and unity – Jesus says in Matthew 18:19-20 “again, I say
to you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall
ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven. For where two or
three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them”. Agree with
what God says about you.
