Dangers of Unthankfulness

This time of the year even the world celebrates a day of thanksgiving, and
people seem to be kinder to each other during this time of the year; and
that’s good, but just think of how it would be if people would be thankful at
all times.

The Bible encourages us to be thankful at all times; in (I Thessalonians 5:
18) “in every thing give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus
concerning you”.  In (Colossians 2:6-8) “as you have therefore received
Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in Him.  Rooted and built up in Him, and
established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding therein with
thanksgiving.  Beware less any man spoil you through philosophy and vain
deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not
after Christ”.

In (Colossians 3:14-17) “and above all these things put on charity (love)
which is the bond of perfect-ness.  And let the peace of God rule in your
hearts, to the which also you are called in one body; and be you thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and
admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with grace in your hearts to the Lord.  And whatsoever you do in word or
deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the
Father by Him”.

The Bible gives us guidelines to follow that will help us to be thankful
(Ephesians 5:1-7,19-20) “be you therefore followers of God as dear
children.  And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given
Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling
savor.  But fornication, and all uncleanness, of covetousness, let it not be
once names among you, as becomes saints.  Neither filthiness, nor foolish
talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient, but rather giving of thanks.
For this you know; that no whore monger, nor unclean person, nor
covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of
Christ and of God.  Let no man deceive you with vain words; for because of
these things comes the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.
Be not you therefore partakers with them.  For you were sometimes
darkness, but now are you light in the Lord; walk as children of light.  For
the fruit of the Spirit, is in all goodness and righteousness and truth.
Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
and making melody in your heart to the Lord.  Giving thanks always for all
things to God, and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ”.

Philippians 4:6-7 says “be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer
and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made know to
God.  And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep
your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus”.

When you consider that we come into His presence with thanksgiving as it
says in (Psalms 100:1-5) “make a joyful noise to the Lord Yahweh all you
lands.  Serve the Lord Yahweh with gladness; come before His presence
with singing.  Know you that the Lord Yahweh He is God, it is He that has
made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people, and the sheep of His
pasture.  Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with
praise; be thankful to Him, and bless His name.  For the Lord Yahweh is
good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endures to all generations”.
There is no wonder that the devil wants to keep you in an unthankful state.
The danger of unthankfulness would keep you out of His presence; and
the Bible says “in His presence there is fullness of joy”.

There are many blessings for being thankful, so these blessings will be
short coming for unthankfulness (Psalms 95:1-8) “O come, let us sing to
the Lord Yahweh, let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.
Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful
noise to Him with psalms.  For the Lord Yahweh is a great God, and a great
King above all gods.  In His hand are the deep places of the earth; the
strength of the hills is His also.  The sea is His, and He made it; and His
hands formed the dry land.  O come, let us worship and bow down; let us
kneel before the Lord Yahweh our maker.  For He is our God; and we are
the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.  Today if you will
heard His voice. Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in
the day of temptation in the wilderness”.

In Psalms 107:8,20-22 it says “Oh that men would praise the Lord Yahweh
for His goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.  He
sent His word, and healed them, and delivered them from their
destructions.  Oh that men would praise the Lord Yahweh for His
goodness, and for His wonderful works to the children of men.  And let
them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare His works with
rejoicing”.

In I Corinthians 15:57-58 it says “but thanks be to God, which give us the
victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.  Therefore, my beloved brethren, be
you steadfast, un-moveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord,
forasmuch as you know that your labor is not in vain in the Lord”.  And in II
Corinthians 2:14 which says “now thanks be to God, which always causes
us to triumph in Christ, and makes manifest the savor of His knowledge by
us in every place”.

There is a danger of becoming a pessimist.  An optimist looks at things in a
positive attitude, being thankful, but a pessimist sees things as negative,
having no hope or need to be thankful (Romans 1:18-22) “for the wrath of
God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness
of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.  Because that which may be
known of God is manifest in them; for God has showed it to them.  For the
invisible things of Him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being
understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and
Godhead, so that they are without excuse.  Because that, when they knew
God, they glorified Him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain
in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.  Professing
themselves to be wise, they became fools”.

The apostle Paul warns Timothy in II Timothy 3:1-5 “this know also, that in
the last days perilous times shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their
own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to
parents, unthankful, unholy.  Without natural affection, truce breakers,
false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good.
Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of
God.  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof; from such
turn away”.
