Called to Be Ambassadors

We are called to be ambassadors of Christ (II Corinthians 5:20) “now then we are
ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ’
s stead, be you reconciled to God”. We are Christ’s ambassadors, and God is using
us to speak to others.

An ambassador is an official representative from one country or another.  We are
citizens of heaven (Ephesians 2:19) “now therefore you are no more strangers and
foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints, and of the household of God”; also
(Philippians 3:20) “for our citizenship is in heaven; from where also we look for the
Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ”.

As believers, we are Christ’s ambassadors, sent with His message of reconciliation to
the world.  Remember that Jesus told us that we are supposed to be salt and light to
the world (Matthew 5:13-16) “you are the salt of the earth; but if the salt have lost its
savor, wherewith shall it be salted?  It is therefore good for nothing, but to be cast
out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  You are the light of the world.  A city that
is set on a hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a
bushel, but on a candlestick, and it gives light to all that are in the house.  Let your
light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father which is in heaven”.

An ambassador is a messenger; we are messengers for Jesus (Matthew 28:18-20)
“and Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, all power is given to Me in heaven and
earth.  Go you therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.  Teaching them to observe all things
whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even to the end of
the world”.  God does not want any to perish and He is counting on us.

God called Moses His ambassador, as He sent him to deliver the Israelites out of
Egypt (Exodus 3:7-10) “and the Lord Yahweh said, I have surely seen the affliction of
My people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their
taskmasters; for I know their sorrows.  And I am come down to deliver them out of the
hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land to a good land and a
large land; to a land flowing with milk and honey; to the place of the Canaanites, and
the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.
Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Israel is come to Me, and I have also
seen the oppression wherewith the Egyptians oppress them.  Come now therefore,
and I will send you to Pharaoh, that you may bring forth My people the children of
Israel out of Egypt”.

An ambassador represents another country, another type of people, and often
another point of view; that’s why we are told to renew our minds.  We were born in
the natural with the world’s mindset, but when we are born again into God’s family,
our mind set has to be renewed to reflect the things of God’s kingdom (Romans 12:1-
2) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your
bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God”.

Lets look at Daniel; Daniel even though he was taken captive to Babylon, he
continued to keep the traditions of his God (Daniel 1:3-7), in verse 8 it says that
“Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself”.  They wanted him to eat things
that were unclean, but he agreed to eat only vegetables and drink water; and
because he did, he caused the king to see the glory of Almighty God (Daniel 1:17-
20) “as for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning
and wisdom; and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.  Now at the
end of the days that the king had said he should bring them in, then the prince of the
eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar.  And the king communed with
them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and
Azariah; therefore stood they before the king.  And in all matters of wisdom and
understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than
all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm”.

We see in Daniel chapter three that the other three children, Hananiah, which they
called Shadrach; and Mishael they called Mishach; and Azariah they called
Abednego.  Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold and ordered all people
that at the time of the sound of all kinds of music, that every one should fall down
and worship the golden image that Nebuchadezzar the king had set up (verses 1-5)
but Shadrack, Mishach, and Abednego refused and was thrown into the burning fiery
furnace, however they didn’t burn.  Because of their faithfulness to the Lord Yahweh,
the king saw the glory of their God, and made a decree to honor Him (verses 28:30)
“then Nebuchadzezzar spoke, and said, blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach,
and Abednego, who has sent His angel, and delivered His servants that trusted in
Him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not
serve nor worship any god, except their own God.  Therefore I make a decree, that
every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be
made a dunghill; because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort.  Then
the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, in the province of Babylon”.

Daniel again in Daniel chapter 6 shows his true ambassadorship.  Daniel was put
first over the presidents and princes, that the king should have no damage.  And
because Daniel was preferred above the presidents and princes, they sought to find
some fault with him, but they could not find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he
was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him, verse 5 says “then said
these men, we shall not find any occasion against this Daniel, except we find it
against him concerning the law of his God”.  So they tricked the king to make a
decree, that whosoever shall ask a petition of any god or man for thirty days, save
the king, he shall be cast into the den of lions.  The king established the decree and
signed the writing, that could not be changed, according to the law of the Medes and
Persians.  But Daniel didn’t compromise and in verse 10 it says “now when Daniel
knew that the writing was signed, he went into his house; and his windows being
open in his chamber toward Jerusalem, he kneeled upon his knees three times a
day, and prayed, and gave thanks before his God, as he did aforetime”.  Daniel was
thrown into the lion’s den, but God delivered him, and the king made a new decree
(verses 25-27) “then king Darius wrote to all people, nations, and languages, that
dwell in all the earth; peace be multiplied to you.  I make a decree, that in every
dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for He is
the living God, and steadfast forever, and His kingdom that which shall not be
destroyed, and His dominion shall be even to the end.  He delivers and rescues, and
He works signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from
the power of the lions”.

Paul says that he is an ambassador for Christ, even in chains, in (Ephesians 6:20).
Paul after his Damascus Road experience became the ambassador that he was
called to be, he led many to the Lord Jesus and he wrote much of the letters in the
New Testament by the influence of the Holy Spirit.  Paul yielded himself to the Lord
(Galatians 2:20) “I am crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ
lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of
God, who loved me, and gave Himself for me”.

We are each God’s ambassador, representing to the world that Christians are a
different kind of people with a different lifestyle.  We are not to compromise our
beliefs or conform to theirs.  We are told in Ephesians 5:14-18 “wherefore He says,
awake you that sleep, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give you light.  See
then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise.  Redeeming the time,
because the days are evil.  Wherefore be you not unwise, but understanding what
the will of the Lord is.  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled
with the Spirit”.  Proverbs 13:17 says “a wicked messenger falls into mischief; but a
faithful ambassador is health”.

Since we are called to be ambassadors for Christ, let us began to seek and save the
lost, just as Jesus did; because God does not want any to perish (John 3:17-18) “for
God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through
Him might be saved.  He that believes in Him is not condemned; but he that believes
not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God”.  Let us not be afraid to speak to people, but let us be the
ambassador that we are called to be.
