But God

The word but as used in the Bible would take the things said before it and stop and
then reverse them.  That’s why it is dangerous to say, I know that the Bible says
this, but this is what happened to me.  In essence they are putting what happened
to them above the words of the Bible.

Jesus explained it this way in Matthew 19:26, which says “with men this is
impossible, but with God, all things are possible”; and in Luke 16:13-15, which says
“no man can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one, and love the other;
or else he will hold to the one and despise the other.  You cannot serve God and
mammon.  And the Pharisees also, who were covetous, heard all these things and
the derided Him.  and He said to them, you are they which justify yourselves before
men; but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is
abomination in the sight of God”.

When Adam sinned, he gave up his dominion which God had given to him to the
devil, and the devil became the god of this world.  But God had a plan of
redemption for us, and He prophesied it to the devil in Genesis 3:14-15, which says
“and the Lord God said to the serpent, because you have don this you are cursed
above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon your belly shall you go;
and dust shall you eat all the days of your life.  And I will put enmity between you
and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel”.

Many times through out history, the devil would come against the ones that God
would use; and the Bible does say “many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the
Lord Yahweh delivers him out of them all”.  And again in II Timothy 3:12 it says “and
all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution”.
Let’s look at Abraham; God had promised that Sarah would have a son of
Abraham, and there was a famine in the land and Abraham was afraid to reveal that
Sarah, was his wife and it says in Genesis 20:1-3 “and Abraham journeyed from
there toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and
sojourned in Gerar.  And Abraham said of Sarah his wife, she is my sister; and
Abimelech king of Gerar sent, and took Sarah.  But God came to Abimelech is a
dream by night, and said to him, behold you are but a dead man, for the woman
which you have taken; for she is a man’s wife”.  You see the devil was trying cause
God’s promise to fail.

Look at Jacob; Jacob went to Laban, his mother’s brother when he was running
away for Esah, and Laban was taking advantage of him because he could see that
the Lord Yahweh was with him.  And in Genesis 31:3-7 which says “and the Lord
Yahweh said to Jacob, return to the land of your fathers, and to your kindred; and I
will be with you.  And Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field to his
flock.  And said to them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not toward me as
before; but the God of my father has been with me.  And you know that with all my
power I have served your father.  And your father has deceived me, and changed
my wages ten times; but God allowed him not to hurt me”.

Look at Joseph; Joseph was his father’s favor child, because he loved his mother
Rachel who had died; and his brothers were jealous of him.  Joseph had a dream
which said in essence that his brothers and parents would bow down to him.  His
brothers put him in a pit and would have killed him, but was stopped; and they
decided to sell him into slavery, and he was carried down to Egypt.  Then the told
their father that Joseph was killed by a wild beast and brought his coat which his
father had given to him covered with blood.  Now because God was with him, even
though he was a slave, he became the master of his owners house, and even after
the owners wife lied on him and he was put into prison, he became in charge in the
prison.  Unto Pharaoh had a dream which no one could interpret and Pharaoh’s
butler remembered that Joseph had interpreted his dream while he was in prison.
Joseph was then elevated to the second in command in Egypt and when the famine
came, Jacob sent his sons down to Egypt to buy food, and Joseph revealed himself
to them there (Genesis 45:8) “so now it was not you that sent me here, but God
and He has made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler
throughout all the land of Egypt.  After they return and brought their father and his
family down to Egypt, Jacob was happy to see his son again, and when he was
about to die “Israel said to Joseph, behold, I die; but God shall be with you, and
bring you again to the land of your fathers” (Genesis 48:21).  After that his brothers
were afraid that Joseph would come against them (Genesis 50:18-21) “and his
brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, behold, we be your
servants.  And Joseph said to them, fear not, for am I in the place of God.  But as
for you, you thought evil against me; but God meant it to good, to bring to pass, as
it is this day, to save much people alive.  Now therefore fear you not; I will nourish
you, and your little ones.  And he comforted them, and spoke kindly to them”.

Look at David; David was anointed king of Israel after God had taken the anointing
away from king Saul, who disobeyed Him.  Saul was angry and wanted to kill David
many times (I Samuel 23:10-14) “then said David, O Lord God of Israel, your
servant has certainly heard that Saul seeks to come to Keilah, to destroy the city
for my sake.  Will the men of Keilah deliver me up into his hand?  Will Saul come
down as your servant has heard?  O Lord God of Israel, I beseech you, tell Your
servant, and the Lord Yahweh said, he will come down.  Then said David, will the
men of Keilah deliver me and my men into the hand of Saul?  And the Lord Yahweh
said, they will deliver you up.  Then David and his men, which were about six
hundred, arose and departed out of Keilah, and went where ever they could go.
And it was told Saul that David was escaped from Keilah; and he forbare to go
forth.  And David abode in the wilderness in strong holds, and remained in a
mountain in the wilderness of Ziph, and Saul sought him every day, but God
delivered him not into his hand”.

We know that God is not a respecter of persons, Peter says in Acts 10:28 after his
strange vision “you know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to
keep company, or come to one of another nation; but God has showed me that I
should not call any man common or unclean”.

God doesn’t look at things the way that man does.  In I Corinthians 1:25-29 it says
“because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is
stronger than men.  For you see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise
men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.  But God has
chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen
the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty.  And base
things of the world, and things which are despised, has God chosen, yea, and
things which are not, to bring to nought things that are.  That no flesh should glory
in His presence”.  I Corinthians 2:7-10 which says “but we speak the wisdom of God
in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom which God ordained before the world to our
glory.  Which none of the princes of this world knew, for had they known it, they
would not have crucified the Lord of glory.  But as it is written, eye has not seen,
nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God
has prepared for them that love Him.  But God has revealed them to us by His
Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God”.

In Ephesians 2:1-6 we see the greatest news, it says “and you has He quickened,
who were dead in trespasses and sins.  Wherein in time past you walked according
to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air; the spirit
that now works in the children of disobedience.  Among whom also we all had our
conversation in times pass in the lusts of our flesh; fulfilling the desires of the flesh
and of the mind, and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  But God
who is rich in mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us.  Even when we were
dead in sins, has quickened us together with Christ, by grace you are saved.  And
has raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ
Jesus”.

Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection fulfilled the prophecy which God the Father
gave to the devil in Genesis 3:15.  On the cross, the devil did bruise His heel, Christ
was nail to the cross.  However, we read in Colossians 2:15 “and having spoiled
principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over them in
it”. Jesus bruised his head, his authority.
