Blessings Pass It On
God blessed Abram to be a blessing for others; He made this promise to him in
Genesis 12:1-3 “now the Lord Yahweh, had said to A ram, get you out of your
country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land that I will
show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make
your name great; and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless
you, and curse him that curses you; and in you shall all families of the earth be
blessed”. So you see that it is God’s plan for all families of the earth to be
blessed.
This blessing passed on to Isaac, and in Genesis 26:24 it says “and the Lord
Yahweh appeared to him that same night, and said, I am the God of Abraham
your father; fear not, for I am with you, and will bless you, and multiply your seed
for My servant Abraham’s sake”. The good that we do can bring blessings for our
descendants.
This blessing also passed on to Jacob, and as Isaac blessed Jacob, he said “and
God Almighty bless you, and make you fruitful; and multiply you that you may be a
multitude of people. And give you the blessing of Abraham, to you, and to your
seed with you; that you may inherit the land wherein you are a stranger, which
God gave to Abraham”.
As God spoke the ten commandments, He says in (Exodus 20:4-6) “you shall not
make to you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven
above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You
shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them; for I the Lord Yahweh your
God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the
third and fourth generation of them that hate Me. And showing mercy to
thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments”. So you see that
what we do, can affect our descendants for many generations.
We see this in Psalms 112:1-2 says “praise you the Lord Yahweh, blessed is the
man that fears (reverence) the Lord Yahweh; that delights greatly in His
commandments. His seed (descendants) shall be mighty upon earth; the
generation of the upright shall be blessed”.
And again in Psalms 128 it says “blessed is every one that fears the Lord
Yahweh, that walks in His ways. For you shall eat the labor of your hands; happy
shall you be, and it shall be well with you. Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by
the sides of your house; your children like olive plants round about your table.
Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that fears the Lord Yahweh. The Lord
Yahweh shall bless you out of Zion; and you shall see the good of Jerusalem, all
the days of your life. Yea, you shall see your children’s children, and peace upon
Israel”
We also see this in Psalms 147:11-14 “the Lord Yahweh takes pleasure in them
that fear (reverence) Him, in those that hope in His mercy. Praise the Lord
Yahweh, O Jerusalem, praise your God, O Zion. For He has strengthened the
bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you. He makes peace in
your borders, and fill you with the finest of the wheat”.
God told Moses to teach the children of Israel to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:15-
20) “see, I have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil. In that I
command you this day to love the Lord Yahweh your God, to walk in His ways,
and to keep His commandments, and His statutes and His judgments, that you
may live and multiply; and the Lord Yahweh your God shall bless you in the land
where you go to possess it. But if your heart turn away, so that you will not hear,
but shall be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them. I denounce to
you this day, that you shall surely perish, and that you shall not prolong your days
upon the land, where you pass over Jordan to go to possess it. I call heaven and
earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may
live. That you may love the Lord Yahweh your God, and that you may obey His
voice, and that you may cling to Him; for He is your life, and the length of your
days; that you may dwell in the land which the Lord Yahweh swear to your fathers,
to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them”.
Proverbs 20:7 says “the just man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed
after him”.
We are drawn into the family of God through our exception of Jesus Christ
(Galatians 3:29) “and if you be Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed, and heirs
according to the promise”. We also see in (Acts 3:25-26) which says “you are the
children of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers,
saying to Abraham, and in your seed shall all the kindreds of the earth be
blessed. To you first God, having raised up His Son Jesus, sent Him to bless you,
in turning away every one of you from his iniquities”.
We see the passing on of the blessing when the apostle Paul and Silas was
thrown into prison after casting the demon out of the fortune teller girl, they were
put into the inner court of the prison and the guard was charged to keep them;
but at midnight they prayed to God and sang praises to God and suddenly there
was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken and all
the doors were opened, and when the keeper of the prison awaken out of his
sleep, came and saw the prison doors open, he would have killed himself because
he thought that they had fled. But Paul cried with a loud voice, then he called for
a light and when he saw that all the prisoners were there, he fell down and asked
what must I do to be saved? The apostle Paul tells him in Acts 16:31-34 “and
they said, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved and your
house. And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes;
and was baptized, he and all his immediately. And when he had brought them into
his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his
house”.
When my children were out of line, I called upon the promise in Isaiah 54:13 which
God says “and all your children shall be taught of the Lord Yahweh, and great
shall be the peace of your children”. And as I confessed this scripture over my
children, they both turned unto the Lord.
The apostle Peter tells us in I Peter 3:8-9 “finally, be you all of one mind, having
compassion one of another, love as brethren, be humble, be courteous. Not
rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing, but contrariwise blessing; knowing that
you are thereunto called, that you should inherit a blessing”.
Remember that Galatians 6:7 says “be not deceived, God is not mocked; for
whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap”. As we sow blessings to others,
blessings will come back to us. This is why Jesus tells us to even bless those that
use and abuse you.
