Being Established in Truth

In today’s world, many don’t think that there is an absolute truth, and people are
making up their own truth.  This is not new, Judges 17:6 says “in those days, there
was no king in Israel, for every man did that which was right in his own eyes”.
Proverbs 14:12 says “there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way
of death”.  People are living their lives selfishly, with gay marriages and killing unborn
babies, saying they have a right to live their own life, but Isaiah 5:21 says “woe to
those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight”.   Many justify
their belief, by saying there is no God.

We must be established in the truth.  Doing what is right in the sight of the Lord
Yahweh.  John commends the elders in II and III John “for I rejoiced greatly, when the
brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.  I
have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth”.  Walking in love,
being aware of false doctrine.  Following what is good and not evil.

We walk in the truth, by knowing, speaking and acting on what God says is truth (I
John 3:18-21) “my little children, let us not love in word, neither in tongue, but in deed
and in truth. And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure or hearts
before Him.  For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knows
all things.  Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward
God”.

Pilate asked Jesus, what is truth?  Even though he said that he found no fault in Him.

Let’s look at what truth is:  Truth is absolute, trustworthy, steady, truth remains the
same; truth is the absent of lies.

Truth is a moral and personal characteristic of God, truth is a very important concept
because God is the God of truth, who speaks and judges truly.  He is the real source
and cause of the whole universe; and we see this characteristic in God the Father, in
Jesus, and in the Holy Spirit.

God the Father is truth (Deuteronomy 32:4) “He is the Rock, His work is perfect for all
His ways are judgment, a God of truth, and without iniquity, just and right is He”.  He
can not lie (I Samuel 15:29, Hebrews 6:18, James 1:17-19).

Jesus is truth, Christ is the truth because, being God, His words carry divine
authority.  They are truth and life (John 6:63).  In  (John 14:6) which says “Jesus said
to him, I a the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father, but by Me”.
But many believe that there are many ways to God, there are many false religions.
Jesus warns in Matthew 7:13-15 “enter you in at the narrow gate, for wide is the gate
and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there be which go in there
at.  Because narrow is the gate and narrow is the way, which leads to life, and few
there be that find it”.   People do accuse believers that they are narrow minded.

Paul warned of this in II Timothy 3:1-4 “this know also, that in the last days perilous
times shall come.  For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters,
proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy.  Without natural
affection, truce breakers, false accusers, without self control, despisers of those that
are good.  Traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God”.

Jesus tells us how to know the truth (John 8:31-32) “then said Jesus to those Jews
which believed on Him.  If you continue in My word, then are you My disciples indeed.
And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”.  It is the truth that
you know that makes you free.  Jesus said that there is no truth in the devil (8:44),
however, people sometimes are taking what the devil says over what God says; but
you have to remember Adam and Even fell into this trap.  Peter tells us to “be sober,
be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking
whom he may devour”.  Coming to you with questions, concerning what God has
said, he even tried this with Jesus, but Jesus defeated him with the word of God.

The Holy Spirit is truth (John 14:16-17) “and I will pray the Father, and He shall give
you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever.  For the Spirit of truth,
whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him, but you
know Him, for He dwells with you, and shall be in you”.  He guides believers into all
truth (John 16:13-14) “however, when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you
into all truth, for He shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that
shall He speak, and He will show you things to come.  He shall glorify Me, for He shall
receive of Mine, and shall show it to you”.

Jesus tells us we must worship God is Spirit and truth (John 4:23-24) “but the hour
comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in
truth, for the Father seeks such to worship Him.  God is a Spirit, and they that
worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth”.  We are worshipping Him in spirit
and truth when we grow up in Christ likeness (Ephesians 4:15) says “but speaking
the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ”.

Jesus prayed for us to walk in the truth (John 17:17-20) and we know that all of
Jesus’ prayers were answered.

We can know the truth by attending to God’s word (Proverbs 4:10-15,20-26) which
says “hear, O my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of your life shall be
many.  I have taught you in the way of wisdom.  I have led you in right paths.  When
you go, your steps shall not be straitened; and when you run you shall not stumble.
Take fast hold of instruction, let her not go; keep her, for she is your life.  Enter not
into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men.  Avoid it, pass not by it,
turn from it and pass away.  My son attend to my words, incline your ear to my
sayings.  Let them not depart from your eyes, keep them I the midst of your heart.
For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.  Keep your heart
with all diligence, for out of it, are the issues of life.  Put away from you a forward
mouth, and perverse lips put far from you.  Let your eyes look right on, and let your
eyelids look straight before you.  Ponder the path of your feet, and let all your ways
be established”.

The Bible tells us in I Timothy 3:16 that “all scripture is inspired by God and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”,
this is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our
lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.

Archaeology is revealing more and more evidence, that the Bible is true.  People
have questioned that the Bible we have today is the same as the original?  But when
they found the dead sea scrolls in 1948, they compared them to the Bible of today
and they are the same.  God has preserved His word for us.  Even cities in the Bible
which were thought to be false, have been found and identified.

Jesus told many people who received their healing, your faith has made you whole;
faith is believing the word of God and then acting upon it.  In II Peter 4-10 we see how
to establish ourselves, it says “whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious
promises, that by these you might be partakes of the divine nature, having escaped
the corruption that is in the world through lust.  And beside this, giving all diligence,
add to your faith virtue, and to virtue knowledge.  And to knowledge temperance, and
to temperance patience; and to patience godliness.  And to godliness brotherly
kindness, and to brotherly kindness charity (love).  For if these things be in you, and
abound, they make you that you shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the
knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.  But he that lacks these things is blind, and
cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure,
for if you do these things, you shall never fall”.

There seems to be so many gray areas in the world today, but God’s word is the
truth, His word is the same yesterday, today and forever.  So let us establish
ourselves in the truth of His word.   Remember, just like Jesus defeated the devil in
the wilderness by saying “it is written”, we have to know the truth of His word, so we
can defeat the devil in our lives.
