Acknowledgement
We have to acknowledge who Jesus is to us; Jesus asked His disciples who He was
in Matthew 16:13-19 “when Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, He
asked His disciples, saying, whom do men say that the Son of man as? And they
said, some say that You are John the Baptist; some, Elijah; and others, Jeremiah or
one of the prophets. He says to them, but whom say you that I am? And Simon
Peter answered and said, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus
answered and said to him, blessed are you, Simon Barjona; for flesh and blood has
not revealed it to you, but My Father which is in heaven. And I say also to you, that
you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the gates of hell shall
not prevail against it. And I will give to you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; and
whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and whatsoever you
shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
Just like the first disciples, we have to acknowledge who Jesus is to us. Jesus says
to many “why call you Me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
Whosoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings, and does them, I will show you to
whom he is like. He is like a man which built a house, and dig deep and laid the
foundation on a rock; and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon
that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded upon a rock. But he that
hears and does not, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the
earth; against which the stream did beat vehemently and immediately it fell, and the
ruin of that house was great” (Luke 6:46-49).
We have to acknowledge what He did for us (Colossians 1:12-14) “giving thanks to
the Father which has made us meet (qualified) to be partakers of the inheritance of
the saints in light. Who has delivered us from the power of darkness, and has
translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son. In whom we have redemption
through His blood, even the forgiveness of sins”. Psalms 32:5-7 says “I
acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity have I not hid, I said, I will confess my
transgressions to the Lord Yahweh, and You forgave the iniquity of my sin, Selah.
For this shall every one that is godly pray to You in a time when You may be found;
surely in the floods of great waters, they shall not come near to him. You are my
hiding place, You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall compass me about with
songs of deliverance, Selah”.
We have to acknowledge what He gave to us; Jesus said on the cross “it is finished”,
He accomplished our redemption on the cross; Jesus sent to us the Holy Spirit (John
14:16-18) “and I will pray the Father, an He shall give you another Comforter that He
may abide with you for ever. Even the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot
receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him, but you know Him, for He
dwells with you, and shall be in you. I will not leave you comfortless, I will come to
you”. The Holy Spirit is a gift to us, and we see in John 16:13 what He brings, it says
“however, when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth, for He
shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak, and
He will show you things to come”. He brings us strength (I John 4:4) “you are of
God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He that is in you,
than he that is in the world”.
We have to acknowledge as God has said “not by might, nor by power, but by My
Spirit, says the Lord of hosts”. We cannot live the kingdom life by on our own. As
we acknowledge this, it makes it easier to acknowledge His need in our life; and as
we submit our selves to the Lord Yahweh, He does the work; so let go and let God.
The Bible tells us to “let the redeemed of the Lord Yahweh say so, whom He has
redeemed from the hand of the enemy”. By saying so we acknowledge that it
belongs to us. Search through the scriptures to see what you are redeemed from,
and a good way is to look at what the world was like before Adam’s fall and as the
world will be when Jesus returns (Revelation 22).
Paul prayed for Philemon “grace to you, and peace, from God our Father ad the
Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God making mention of you always in my prayers.
Hearing of your love and faith, which you have toward the Lord Jesus, and toward all
saints. That the communication of your faith may become effectual by the
acknowledging of every good thing which is in you in Christ Jesus”.
It is God’s desire for us to acknowledge Him (Hosea 5:15) which says “I will go and
return to My place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek My face in their
affliction they will seek Me early”. Remember that Jesus came preaching “repent for
the kingdom is at hand”. We acknowledge our sins and our need for a Savior
(Isaiah 33:13) “hear, you that are far off, what I have done, and you that are near,
acknowledge My might”.
Proverbs 3:5-8 is a beautiful promise for us, it says “trust in the Lord Yahweh with all
your heart, and lean not to your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge
Him, and He shall direct your paths. Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord
Yahweh and depart from evil. It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your
bones”.
As our examples, let’s look at David; he acknowledged God as his helper with the
lion and the bear. And also when his city was burned and the families taken, he
acknowledged God and God led him to recover all.
Solomon acknowledged God as his source to lead Israel in I Kings 3:3-14; he prayed
a prayer “and Solomon said, You have showed to Your servant David my father
great mercy, according as he walked before You in truth, and in righteousness, and
in uprightness of heart with You, and You have kept for him this great kindness, that
You have given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. And now, O Lord
Yahweh my God, You have made Your servant king instead of David my father; and
I am but a little child; I know not how to go out or come in. Any Your servant is in the
midst of Your people which You have chosen, a great people, that cannot be
numbered nor counted for multitude. Give therefore Your servant, an
understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and
bad; for who is able to judge this Your so great a people? And the speech pleased
the Lord Yahweh that Solomon had asked this thing”. By Solomon’s unselfish
prayer, God not only gave him a discerning heart, but also “I have given you that
which you have not asked, both riches, and honor; so that there shall not be any
among the kings like to you all your days”.
Jesus tells us the benefits of those who acknowledge Him and those who don’t (Luke
12:8-9) “and I say to you, whosoever shall confess (acknowledge) Me before men,
him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God. But he that denies
Me before men shall be denied before the angels of God”. I John 2:23-25 says
“whosoever denies the Son, the same has not the Father, but he that acknowledges
the Son has the Father also. Let that therefore abide in you, which you have heard
from the beginning, if that which you have heard from the beginning shall remain in
you, you also shall continue in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise
that He has promised us, even eternal life”.
