Your Tongue

The fleshy movable organ in your mouth, for taste, speech, etc; it’s a small
member, but it has great power.  I like to ask you a question, do you want
everything that you say to come to pass?  Think on that.  What you say is either
producing faith or fear (Proverbs 18:20-21) “a man’s belly shall be satisfied with
the fruit of his mouth, and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.  Death and
life are in the power of the tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.
We have to get people to stop saying what the devil says, instead tell the devil “it is
written”, and then quoting what is contrary to what the devil said, just like Jesus
defeated him in the wilderness.

Jesus said in Mark 11:23-24 “for verily I say to you, that whosoever shall say to this
mountain.  Be you removed, and be you cast into the sea, and shall not doubt in
his heart, but shall believe that those things which he says shall come to pass, he
shall have whatsoever he says.  Therefore I say to you, what things so ever you
desire, when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you shall have them”.

If you answered no to my question, then you need to put pressure on your tongue.
James put your tongue in the likeness of a ruder able to turn large ships, or a bit
able to control and direct large animals (James 3:3-10) “behold we put bits in the
horses mouths, that they may obey us, and we turn about their whole body.
Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce
winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, wherever the pilot desire.
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasts great things.  Behold, how great
a matter a little fire kindles!  And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity, so is the
tongue among our members, that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the
course of nature, and it is set on fire of hell.  For every kind of beasts, and of birds,
and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed and has been tamed of
mankind.  But the tongue can no man tame, it is unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
Therewith bless we God, even the Father and therewith curse we men, which are
made after the likeness of God. Out of the same mouth proceeds, blessing and
cursing.  My brethren these things ought not to be”.

The Bible says “let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that
which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to the hearers”
(Ephesians 4:29).  And “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridles
not his tongue, but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is vain” (James 1:
26).  The Psalmist says “The mouth of the righteous speaks wisdom, and his
tongue talks of judgment” (Psalms 37:30). Also “I said, I will take heed to my ways,
that I sin not with my tongue.  I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is
before me” (Psalms 39:1); verse 3 says “my heart was hot within me, while I was
musing the fire burned; then spoke I with my tongue”, in other words we should
meditate on His words then speak.  Proverbs 15:4 says “a wholesome tongue is a
tree of life, but perverseness therein is a breach in the spirit”.  Proverbs 21:23 says
“whoso keeps his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles”.

Jesus spoke only that which He heard from the Father (John 8:28b) “I do nothing of
Myself, but as My Father has taught Me, I speak these things”.  He also said
“however when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth, for He
shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak, and
He will show you things to come” (John 16:13).  We are followers of Jesus, and
should do the same.

Jesus said in Matthew 6:31a “therefore take no thought saying”, when you speak it,
you are agreeing with it and receiving it.  We are told in II Corinthians 10:3-5 “for
though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh.  For the weapons of our
warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the
knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of
Christ”.  Jesus  said “not that which goes into the mouth defiles a man, but that
which comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man” (Matthew 15:11).  He explains
this in Matthew 12:34-37 “O generation of vipers, how can you being evil, speak
good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.  A good
man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good things, and an evil man
out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.  But I say to you, that every idle
word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by your words you shall be justified, and by your words you shall be
condemned”.

John 10:10a says “the thief comes not, but to steal, and to kill and to destroy”.  If
the devil can steal the word of God from your life, he can kill or destroy you.
Remember the parable of the sower, the devil comes to steal the word (Luke 8:11-
12) “now the parable is this.  The seed is the word of God.  Those by the way side
are they that hear, then comes the devil, and takes away the word out of their
hearts, less they should believe and be saved”.  In Matthew 13:18-23 the same
parable, however in Matthew’s account it says “when any one hears the word of the
kingdom and understands it not, then comes the wicked one and catches away that
which was sown in his heart”. The thief comes to steal the word, to get you to stop
saying the word, stop acting on the word, or get you to mix the word with doubt.
James says “for he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and
tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.  A
double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:6-8).  When we plant the
word of God in our hearts, we do like God told Joshua “this book of the law shall
not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day and night, that you
may observe to do according to all that is written therein, for then you shall make
your way prosperous and then you shall have good success”.  We have to
meditate on God’s word until it gets so real to us, then we can speak it with
authority.  Psalms 68:11 says “God gave the word, great was the company of them
that proclaimed it”.

The Bible tells us that the word of God won’t return void, but will accomplish that
which it is sent to do.  The Bible also says “let God be truth and every man a lie”.
When we speak what the Bible says, people will tell us that we are telling a lie,
because they are living by sight and not by faith, but we are told to “live by faith
and not by sight”.  If Jesus spoke only God’s words, how can we think we can
defeat the devil if we are not doing the same thing.  I Peter 3:10 says “for he that
will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips
that they speak no guile”.
