Your Mind or the Mind of Christ

You have heard of the slogan “a mind is a terrible thing to waste”, and also
“WWJD” what would Jesus do.  Well by studying the word of God, you can see
what Jesus did and knowing He is the same yesterday, today and forever, you can
know what He would do.

Even greater than that you should know that you are to have the mind of Christ (I
Corinthians 2:9-16) which says “but as it is written, eye has not seen nor ear
heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God has
prepared for them that love Him.  But God has revealed them to us by His Spirit,
for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God.  For what man
knows the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him?  Even so the
things of God knows no man, but the Spirit of God.  Now we have received, not the
spirit of the world, but the Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that
are freely given to us of God.  which things also we speak, not in the words which
man’s wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches; comparing spiritual
things with spiritual.  But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of
God, for they are foolishness to him, neither can he know them, because they are
spiritually discerned.  But he that is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is
judged of no man.  For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct
Him?  But we have the mind of Christ”.

The word of God teaches us to have the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5) which
says “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus”.  This implies that we
have a part to do.

By being led by the Spirit of God, you have the mind of Christ.  The opposite
applies if you are being led by your own fleshly mind, or the devil.  You would be
cheating yourself of operating in the mind of Christ and that would be a terrible
thing to waste.  Romans 8:4-11 explains this, it says “that the righteousness of the
law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.  For
they that are after the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after
the Spirit the things of the Spirit.  For to be carnally minded is death, but to be
spiritually minded is life and peace.  Because the carnal mind is enmity against
God, for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.  So then they
that are in the flesh cannot please God.  But you are not in the flesh, but in the
Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.  Now if any man have not the
Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead
because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.  But if the Spirit of
Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from
the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you”.

Many people are holding on to control of their mind, not realizing that they have
the possibility of living in the mind of Christ.  Your natural mind is fleshly, and the
mind of Christ is of the Spirit.  Science shows that man only uses 10% of their brain
power.  By holding on to using only 10% of their mind, when the mind of Christ is
available, they are losing out.  Remember Paul’s struggle in Romans 7:18-19)
which says “for I know that in me, that is in my flesh, dwells no good thing; for to will
is present with me, but how to perform that which is good, I find not.  For the good
that I would I do not, but the evil which I would not, that I do”.  This agrees with what
Jesus said “without Me you can do nothing” (John chapter 15); in (verses 7:24-8:2)
he says “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from the body of this
death?  I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord, so then with the mind I myself
serve the law of God, but with the flesh the law of sin.  There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but
after the Spirit.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free
from the law of sin and death”.

God has a plan for our life, but our mind has a great deal to do with how far we get
in living it out.  That’s why we have to renew our mind to the word of God (Romans
12:1-2) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you
present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
reasonable service.  And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and
acceptable, and perfect will of God”.  Renewing your mind to the word of God is
taking the word of God and applying it in your life.  James calls this “being a doer
of the word and not a hearer only, deceiving your own selves”; he goes on to say
that the word of God is a mirror in which we should look into and make changes in
our life according to what we see in the perfect law of liberty (James 1:22-24).

We are told to “let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are
called in one body; and be you thankful.  Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly
in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and
spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hears to the Lord” (Colossians 3:15-16).
Remember that “the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two
edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the
joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart”
(Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible tells us in Proverbs 23:7 “for as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”.  The
Bible also tells us what we should think on, in Philippians 4:6-9 “be careful for
nothing, but in every thing by prayer and supplications with thanksgiving let your
requests be made known to God.  And the peace of God, which passes all
understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.  Finally,
brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever
things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and if there be any
praise, think on these things.  Those things, which you have both learned, and
received, and heard, and seen in me, do and the God of peace shall be with you”.

Ephesians 3:20 says “now to Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all
that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us”.

We have to stay focused on the promises of God; and let the word of God have
the final authority in our lives.  The Bible tells us by two or three witnesses, let a
thing be established.  Don’t take one scripture and run with it, but study and see
that it is established in other places, this way you can confirm the context, and then
you can stand on it.

Isaiah speaking to God in Isaiah 26:3 says “You will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You”.  That’s way the devil
fights so hard to give you his thoughts, putting doubts and fears in your heart.
Many Christians are trying to operate part of the time in the mind of Christ, they go
to church and do things of God, and then live like the world the rest of the week;
but James warns against this (James 1:7-8) “for let not that man think that he shall
receive any thing of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”.

The battle is in the mind, but we can use our spiritual weapons to fight with (II
Corinthians 10:3-5) says “for though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the
flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to
the pulling down of strong holds.  Casting down imaginations, and every high thing
that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every
thought to the obedience of Christ”.  This shows us that the word of God, must
have final authority.

Ephesians 6:10-18 says “finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the
power of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand
against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but
against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this
world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take to you the
whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having
done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and
having on the breastplate of righteousness.  And your feet shod with the
preparation of the gospel of peace.  Above all, taking the shield o faith, wherewith
you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet
of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.  Praying always
with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereto with all
perseverance and supplication for all saints”.

Let us surrender our mind to our heavenly Father, and receive the mind of Christ
which God has given to us.  Galatians 5:16 says “this I say then, walk in the Spirit,
and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh”.  Walking in the Spirit is walking in the
word of God, because the Spirit and the Word are one.

Don’t allow the devil to tell you that the word of God doesn’t work.  The Bible tells
us that the word of God won’t return to Him void.  And when you consider that the
devil is the father of lies, and the word of God is the truth, you can make a right
decision.  Remember that God has set before you life and death, blessing and
cursing, then He tells us to choose life, that we may live.
