Your Focus
The Bible warns us not to turn to the right or the left, but to look straight forward,
in (Proverbs 4:20-27), it says “my son, attend to my words; incline your ear to
my sayings. Let them not depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your
heart. For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away
from you a forward mouth, and perverse lips put far from you. Let your eyes
look right on, and let your eyelids look straight before you. Ponder the path of
your feet, and let all your ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to
the left; remove your foot from evil”. Remember that the word of God as Psalms
119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path”. That is
why, we need to keep our focus on the word of God.
God Himself told Joshua this very thing in Joshua 1:6-9, which says “be strong
and of a good courage; for to this people shall you divide for an inheritance the
land, which I swear to their fathers to give them. Only be you strong and very
courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law, which Moses
My servant commanded you; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that
you may prosper wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart out of
your mouth; but you shall meditate therein day and night that you may observe
to do according to all that is written therein; for then you shall make your way
prosperous and then you shall have good success. Have not I commanded
you? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be you dismayed;
for the Lord Yahweh your God is with you wherever you go”.
Many people interpret the Bible by what they may have been taught, many no
longer believe that healing is possible today, but the Bible should be interpreted
by what it says. Everyone should interpret the Bible by using the Bible. Many
times people don’t understand a certain verse, yet the Bible will always explain
itself in other verses. Bible studies are so important to reveal any thing that you
don’t understand. Jesus as He was telling the parable of the sower, revealed
that the devil comes immediately to steal the word that you don’t understand.
Jesus told us that it was expedient for you that I go away; for if I go not away the
Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you (John 16:7).
The Holy Spirit was given to us as our Helper; Jesus continues to say in John 16:
12-13 “I have yet many things to say to you; but you cannot bear them now.
However when He, the Spirit of truth, is come He will guide you into all truth; for
He shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak;
and He will show you things to come”. Again in I John 2:27 it says “but the
anointing which you have received of Him abides in you, and you need not that
any man teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you of all things, and is
truth, and is no lie, and even as it has taught you, you shall abide in Him”.
Peter writes concerning Paul’s writings and warns in II Peter 3:14-18 “wherefore,
beloved, seeing that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be found
of Him in peace, without spot, and blameless. And account that the
longsuffering of our Lord is salvation, even as our beloved brother Paul also
according to the wisdom given to him has written to you. As also in all his
epistles, speaking in them of these things in which are some things hard to be
understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable twist; as they do also
the other scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, seeing
you know these things before, beware less you also, being led away with the
error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness. But grow in grace, and in
the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To Him be glory both now
and for ever, Amen”.
We are told in II Timothy 2:15 to “study to show yourself approved to God, a
workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
The Bible warns not to add to His word (Proverbs 30:5-6), says “every word of
God is pure; He is a shield to them that put their trust in Him. Add you not to His
words, less He reprove you, and you be found a liar”; and in Revelation 22:18-
19 says “for I testify to every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this
book. If any man shall add to these things, God shall add to him the plagues
that are written in this book. And if any man shall take away from the words of
the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life,
and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book”. This
should express the importance of God’s word.
Jesus confirms the importance of God’s word, when He told the devil in Matthew
4:4 “it is written, man shall not live by bread alone; but by every word that
proceeds out of the mouth of God”; you see after fasting for 40 days and nights,
He was hungry and the devil tried to tempt Him to turn stones into bread, but He
implied that the spirit man is fed by the word of God.
Jesus tells us to continue in His words (John 8:29-32) “He that sent Me is with
Me; the Father has not left Me alone; for I do always those things that please
Him. As He spoke these words, many believed on Him. Then said Jesus to
those Jews which believed on Him, If you continue in My word, then are you My
disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you
free”.
Again also in John 15:4-10 Jesus says “abide in Me, and I in you, as the branch
cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can you except
you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches, he that abides in Me, and
I in him, the same brings forth much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If a
man abide not in Me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered, and men
gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in
Me, and My words abide in you, you shall ask what you will, and it shall be done
to you. Herein is My Father glorified, that you bear much fruit; so shall you be
My disciples. As the Father has loved Me, so have I loved you; continue you in
My love. If you keep My commandments; you shall abide in My love; even as I
have kept My Fathers commandments, and abide in His love”.
Paul writes Timothy in II Timothy 3:14-17 “but continue you in the things which
you have learned and have been assured of knowing of whom you have learned
them. And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able
to make you wise to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture
is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for
correction; for instruction in righteousness. That the man of God may be
perfect, thoroughly furnished to all good works”.
We have to keep our focus on the word of God, because the word of God is the
truth, and that is the only thing that will make us free; free from the tricks and
traps of the devil.
The apostle John writes in III John 1:3-4 “For I rejoiced greatly, when the
brethren came and testified of the truth, that is in you, even as you walk in the
truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth”.
