Whatever He Says to You, Do It
God told Noah that He was going to destroy mankind because of their corruption,
and God gave Noah instructions “to build an ark, and gave him great details, and
told him to take two of every sort into the ark, and seven of the clean animals”.
Even though it took 120 years, “Noah did according to all that God commanded him,
so did he” (Genesis 6:13-22). Peter shows us that Noah preached 120 years (I
Peter 3:20 and II Peter 2:5) “while once the longsuffering of God waited in the days
of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is eight souls were saved
by water”; “God spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a
preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly”.
Noah is listed as a faith giant in Hebrews 11:7 “by faith Noah, being warned of God
of things not seen as yet, moved with reverence, prepared an ark to the saving of
his house; by the which the condemned the world, and became heir of the
righteousness which is by faith”.
God called Abram (Genesis 12:1-4) “now, the Lord Yahweh had said to Abram, get
you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your fathers house, to a
land that I will show you. And I will make you a great nation, and I will bless you, and
make your name great and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless
you, and curse him that curses you, and in you shall all families of the earth be
blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord Yahweh had spoken to him, and Lot went
with him and Abram was seventy five years old when he departed out of Haran”.
Abram’s name was changed to Abraham which means the father of many nations,
three different groups claim Abraham as the father of their religion; the Muslims, the
Jews, and Christians. Abraham is listed as a faith giant in Hebrews 11:8-9 “by faith
Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive
for an inheritance, obeyed, and he went out, not knowing where he went. By faith
he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, welling in tabernacles
with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise”. And again in
Hebrews 11:17-19 as God tested him by asking him to sacrifice Isaac as a burnt
offering, “by faith Abraham, when he was tried, offered up Isaac and he that had
received the promise, offered up his only begotten son. Of whom it was said, that in
Isaac, shall your seed be called. Accounting that God, was able to raise him up,
even from the dead, from where also he received him in a figure”.
God called out to Moses from the burning brush, and told him to “go tell Pharaoh,
let My people go”; and even though Moses was afraid, saying that the people would
not believe him, and that Pharaoh would not listen to him, after God said He would
be with him, he did go and after God put the plagues on Egypt, Pharaoh did let the
Israelites go (Exodus 3-12). As Moses continued to hear God, he was able to lead
the Israelites from Egypt, through the red sea, which parted after God told Moses to
stretch out his hand over the sea, and as he did it the waters dried up and the
Israelites were able to walk through, but as the Egyptians followed, they were
destroyed (Exodus 14).
God told Joshua to march around the city of Jericho once each day for seven day
and on the seventh, seven times and then break the pitchers and shout, this
seemed silly but as they obeyed, the walls of Jericho fell down flat in front of them,
and they were able to defeat it (Joshua 6:4-8).
The Bible tells us that “obedience is better than sacrifice”; Samuel rebukes King
Saul in (I Samuel 15), when he started out obeying God and then listened to the
people. God told him to go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have,
but Saul and the people spared Agag, and the best of the sheep, and of the oxen,
and of the fatlings, and the lambs, and all that was good, and would not utterly
destroy them. Even though this command seemed harsh, we learn later in Esther
that a descendent of Agag planned to destroy all the Jews.
Deuteronomy 7:12 says “wherefore it shall come to pass, if you hearken to these
judgments, and keep and do them, that the Lord Yahweh your God shall keep to
you the covenant, and the mercy which He swear to your fathers”.
Deuteronomy 28:1-2,15 says “and it shall come to pass, if you shall hearken
diligently to the voice of the Lord Yahweh your God, to observe and to do all His
commandments which I command you this day, that the Lord Yahweh your God will
set you on high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come
on you, and overtake you, if you shall hearken to the voice of the Lord Yahweh your
God”, “but it shall come to pass if you will not hearken to the voice of the Lord
Yahweh your God to observe to do all His commandments and His statues which I
command you this day, that all these curses shall come upon you, and overtake
you”. We thank God that Jesus has redeemed us from the curse of the law.
Mary, the mother of Jesus said something amazing at the wedding of Cana when the
ran out of wine, she said to the servants “whatsoever He says to you, do it”, and as
they followed the instructions of Jesus, and filled up the water pots with water and
then dipped out and took it to the ruler of the feast, he “every man at the beginning
does set forth good wine, and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse,
but you have kept the good wine until now”.
Jesus warns us (Matthew 7:21-27) “not every one that says to Me, Lord, Lord, shall
enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of My Father which is in
heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in
Your name? And in Your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess
to them, I never knew you, depart from Me, you that work iniquity. Therefore,
whosoever hears these sayings of Mine and does them, I will liken him to a wise
man, which built his house upon a rock. And the rain descended, and the floods
came, and the wind blew, and beat upon that house, and it fell not for it was
founded upon a rock. And every one that hears these sayings of Mine, and does
them not, shall be likened to a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand.
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon
that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it”. Luke 6:46-49 says almost the
same thing.
Jesus gave a command to many that he healed, saying “stretch out your hand”
(Matthew 12:9-13, Mark 3:1-5), or “rise up, take up your bed and walk” (John 5:2-9);
it was as they did what He said, they were immediately healed. James tells us to be
a doer of the word and not a hearer only (James 1:22) and in James 2:26 which
says “for as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also”.
The devil tries to make you question that you can’t do , God says you can do, in
order to keep you from doing what God says. Notice every time that the devil
comes to tempt you, he ask a question, he asked Eve, did God say? As he
approached Jesus, he said “if you be the Son of God, then asked Him to turn the
stones into bread, but Jesus said “man shall not live by break alone, but by every
word that proceeds out of the mouth of God”, and he said “cast Yourself down, for it
is written, He shall give His angels charge concerning You, and in their hand they
shall bear You up, less at any time You dash Your foot against a stone, but Jesus
said “it is written, you shall not tempt, the Lord our God”. Remember the devil has
been around a long time and knows that if you don’t do what He says, you limit what
God can do in your life. Jesus could not do many mighty works in His own
hometown, because of their unbelief (Matthew 13:54-58).
Just like Jesus, we have to know what is written, when answering the devil. II
Corinthians 10:3-5 says “for though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the
flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the
pulling down of strong holds. Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that
exalts itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought
to the obedience of Christ”. Remember that Christ is the word of God.
The book of Hebrews 3:7-12 says “wherefore, as the Holy Spirit says, today, if you
will hear His voice. Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of
temptation in the wilderness. When your fathers tempted Me, proved Me, and saw
My works forty years. Wherefore I was grieved with that generation, and said. They
do err in their heart, and they have not known My ways. So I swear in My wrath.
They shall not enter into My rest. Take heed, brethren, less there be in any of you
an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God”.
God is still speaking today, we have to be tuned in to hear His voice.
