What Inheritance Are You Leaving
Proverbs 13:22 says “a good man leaves an inheritance to his children’s children;
and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just”. Many people when they hear
of some one leaving an inheritance, think of money or other possessions, but a
spiritual inheritance is very important.
God told Moses in Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “I call heaven and earth to record this
against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing,
therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may live. That you may love
the Lord Yahweh your God, and that you may obey His voice and that you may
cling to Him; for He is your life, and the length of your days, that you may dwell in
the land which the Lord Yahweh swear to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and
to Jacob to give them”.
Through out the Bible many times we are told what brings blessings and curses
(Isaiah 1:19-20) says “if you be willing and obedient, you shall eat the good of the
land. But if you refuse and rebel, you shall be devoured with the sword; for the
mouth of the Lord has spoken it”.
As we read in Exodus 20:3-6 and again in Deuteronomy 5:7-10 and this is spoken
by the Lord Yahweh, it says “you shall have no other gods before Me. You shall
not make to you any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven
above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. You
shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them; for I the Lord Yahweh your
God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the
third and fourth generation of them that hate Me. And showing mercy to
thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments”.
Look how you can pass down iniquity to the third and fourth generation when you
bow down and serve other gods; or you can have the mercy of God flow down to
them (Proverbs 14:26) says “in the fear (reverence) of the Lord Yahweh is strong
confidence; and his children shall have a place or refuge”; and (Proverbs 20:7)
which says “the just man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him”.
What you do can have an effect on what kind of inheritance you are leaving for
your children (Psalms 115:11-15) says “you that fear (reverence) the Lord
Yahweh, trust in the Lord Yahweh; He is their help and their shield. The Lord
Yahweh has been mindful of us; He will bless us; He will bless the house of Israel,
He will bless the house of Aaron. He will bless them that fear (reverence) the Lord
Yahweh, both small and great. The Lord Yahweh shall increase you more and
more, you and your children. You are blessed of the Lord Yahweh which made
heaven and earth”. In Psalms 103:17-18 it says “the mercy of the Lord Yahweh is
from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear (reverence) Him, and His
righteousness to children’s children. To such as keep His covenant, and to those
that remember His commandments to do them”.
Let’s look at what happened to the families of those presidents and princes who
plotted to have Daniel thrown into the lion’s den. You see they couldn’t find any
fault in Daniel, so they tricked the king to make a decree that any one that prayed
to any one besides the king should be thrown into the den of lions, yet when
Daniel knew of this decree, he went home and opened his windows and prayed as
his custom was. The king didn’t want to but had to because he had signed the
decree and it could not be changed. Daniel was thrown into the den of lions, but
in the morning he was still alive, “and the king commanded, and they brought
those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions,
them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and
broke all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den”. God
got the glory and the king said “I make a decree, that in every dominion of my
kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel; for He is the living God,
and steadfast for ever; and His kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and His
dominion shall be even to the end. He delivers and rescues, and He works signs
and wonders in heaven and in earth, who has delivered Daniel from the power of
the lions” (Daniel 6:26-27).
Let us also look at Achan who took of the accursed thing when they defeated
Jericho. God had told Joshua that “all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass
and iron, are consecrated to the Lord Yahweh, they shall come into the treasury
of the Lord” (Joshua 6:19). And in Joshua 7:1 it says “but the children of Israel
committed a trespass in the accursed thing for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son
of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing and
the anger of the Lord Yahweh was kindled against the children of Israel”. The
results came when after defeating Jericho, and Israel was defeated at Ai, Joshua
enquired of the Lord and Achan was found out (Joshua 7:24-26) says “and
Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and
the garment and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his
oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had; and they
brought them to the valley of Achor. And Joshua said, why have you troubled
us? The Lord Yahweh shall trouble you this day; and all Israel stoned him with
stones, and burned them with fire, after they had stoned them with stones. And
they raised over him a great heap of stones to this day. So the Lord Yahweh
turned from the fierceness of His anger. Wherefore the name of that place was
called, the valley of Achor, to this day”.
There is a promise in Isaiah 54:13 which says “and all your children shall be
taught of the Lord Yahweh, and great shall be the peace of your children”. This is
a promise that I rely upon greatly and have seen mighty things happen by my
standing on this promise. There was a time that both of my children were away
from God, and as I brought God in remembrance of His word, I saw them both not
only come to the Lord but they are being used of the Lord.
Then in Jeremiah 32:38-40 is another great promise, it says “and they shall be My
people, and I will be their God. And I will give them one heart, and one way, that
they may fear Me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them.
And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from
them, to do them good, but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not
depart from Me”. This was fulfilled by Jesus and this promise is for us (Galatians
3:29) “and if you be Christ’s, then are you Abraham’s seed and heirs according to
the promise”.
We have to recognize that we have a new and better promise through the blood of
Jesus Christ, and look forward to living out these promises in our life (Acts 2:39)
says “for the promise is to you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off,
even as many as the Lord our God shall call”.
Paul tells Timothy to stir up the gift that is within him (II Timothy 1:5-7) says “when I
call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in you, which dwelled first in your
grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in you also.
Wherefore I put you in remembrance that you stir up the gift of God, which is in
you by putting on of my hands. For God has not given us the spirit of fear; but of
power and of love, and of a sound mind”.
