We Must Remember

God commanded Moses to teach the children of Israel important things that they
were to remember; how the death angel passed over the Israelites (Exodus 12:24-
27) “and you shall observe this thing for an ordinance to you and to your sons for
ever.  And it shall come to pass, when you become to the land which the Lord
Yahweh will give you, according as He has promised, that you shall keep this
service.  And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say to you, what mean
you by this service?  That you shall say, it is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover.
Who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when He smote the
Egyptians, and delivered our houses.  And the people bowed the head and
worshiped.

And as they went through the Jordan, they were told to take up twelve stones and
erect them as a memorial to show their children what God has done, how He
delivered them from their enemies (Joshua 4:2-3,21-24) “take you twelve men out
of the people, out of every tribe a man. And command you them, saying, take you
here out of the midst of the Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood
firm, twelve stones, and you shall carry them over with you, and leave them in the
lodging place, where you shall lodge this night.  And he spoke to the children of
Israel, saying, when your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying,
what mean these stones? Then you shall let your children know, saying, Israel
came over this Jordan on dry land.  For the Lord Yahweh your God dried up the
waters of Jordan from before you, until you were passed over, as the Lord Yahweh
your God did to the Red sea, which He dried up from before us, until we were gone
over.  That all the people of the earth might know the hand of the Lord Yahweh,
that it is mighty, that you might reverence the Lord Yahweh your God for ever”.

They were commanded to teach their children the mighty acts of God
(Deuteronomy 6:7-12) “and you shall teach them diligently to your children, and
shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and
when you lay down, and when you rise up.  And you shall bind them for a sign
upon your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.  And you shall
write them upon the posts of your house, and on your gates.  And it shall be, when
the Lord Yahweh your God shall have brought you into the land which He swear to
your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give you great and goodly
cities, which you built not.  And houses full of all good things, which you filled not,
and wells dug, which you dug not, vineyards and olive trees, which you planted
not; when you shall have eaten and be full.  Then beware less you forget the Lord
Yahweh, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of
bondage”.  Also in Deuteronomy 8:1-2,11-18, it says “all the commandments which
I command you this day shall you observe to do, that you may live, and multiply,
and go in and posses the land which the Lord Yahweh swear to your fathers.  And
you shall remember all the way which the Lord Yahweh your God led you these
forty years in the wilderness, to humble you, and to prove you, to know what was in
your heart, whether you would keep His commandments, or no.  Beware that you
forget not the Lord Yahweh your God, in not keeping His commandments, and His
judgments, and His statutes, which I command you this day.  Less when you have
eaten and are full, and have built goodly houses, and dwelled therein.  And when
your herds and your flocks multiply, and your silver and your gold is multiplied, and
all that you have is multiplied.  Then your heart be lifted up, and you forget the
Lord Yahweh your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, from the
house of bondage.  Who led you through that great and terrible wilderness,
wherein were fiery serpents, and scorpions, and drought, where there was no
water; who brought you forth water out of the rock of flint.  Who fed you in the
wilderness with manna, which your fathers knew not, that He might humble you,
that He might prove you, to do you good at your latter end.  And you say in your
heart, my power and the might of my hand has gotten me this wealth.  But you shall
remember the Lord Yahweh your God, for it is He that gives you power to get
wealth, that He may establish His covenant, which He swear to your fathers, as it is
this day”.

God says in Isaiah 46:9-12 “remember the former things of old, for I am God, and
there is none else, I am God and there is none like Me.  Declaring the end from the
beginning, and from ancient times, the things that are not yet done, saying My
counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure.  Calling a ravenous bird from the
east, the man that executes My counsel from a far country, yea, I have spoken it, I
will also bring it to pass, I have purposed it, I will also do it.  Hearken to Me, you
stouthearted, that are far from righteousness.  I bring near My righteousness, it
shall not be far off, and My salvation shall not tarry, and I will place salvation in
Zion for Israel My glory”.  We also have to remember that God’s word does not
return to Him void (Isaiah 55).

We are told in Romans 15:4 “for whatsoever things were written aforetime were
written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures
might have hope”.  We know that the Israelites often forgot God, and began to
serve the other gods which were in the land which they possessed; but we cannot
be to harsh with them, because even today you will see that God blesses
someone, say with a car or boat and they will soon began to be so occupied with
the gift that they spend all their time in it and, forget to honor God for it.  We are to
remember what they did and learn from their mistakes.

David is a good example for us to follow, he rehearsed the things which God had
brought him through, remembering how He delivered him from the lion and the
bear, and he was enriched with such faith that he was able to stand up before the
giant, knowing that God would deliver him from that giant too.  David taught others
to remember God (I Chronicles 16:7-15) “then on that day David delivered firth this
psalm to thank the Lord Yahweh into the hand of Asaph and his brethren.  Give
thanks to the Lord Yahweh, call upon His name, make known His deeds among the
people.  Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him, talk you of all His wondrous works.  Glory
you in His holy name; let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord Yahweh.
Seek the Lord Yahweh ad His strength, seek His face continually.  Remember His
marvelous works that He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth”.

Jonah remembered God and was delivered from the belly of the fish, even though
he fell into this danger because of his disobedience (Jonah 2:7,10) “when my soul
fainted within me I remembered the Lord Yahweh, and my prayer came in to You,
into Your hold temple.  And the Lord Yahweh spoke to the fish, and it vomited out
Jonah upon the dry land”.  God spared Jonah, but He spoke to him again and
Jonah had to go preach in Nineveh.

Proverbs 3:1-8 says “My son, forget not my law, but let your heart keep my
commandments.  For length of days, and long life and peace shall they add to
you.  Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them
upon the table of your heart.  So shall you find favor and good understanding in
the sight of God and man.  Trust in the Lord Yahweh with all your heart, and lean
not to your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall
direct your paths.  Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord Yahweh, and depart
from evil.  It shall be health to your navel, and marrow to your bones”.  We have to
remember that God wants us to prosper and be in health even as our soul
prospers.

We have to remember who we are in Christ (II Corinthians 5:17) “therefore if any
man be in Christ, he is a new creature; old things are passed away; behold, all
things are become new”.  We have to remember that “greater is He that is in us,
than he that is in the world”; Romans 8:9-11 says “but you are not in the flesh, but
in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you.  Now if any man have not
the Spirit of Christ, he is none of His.  And if Christ be in you, the body is dead
because of sin; but the Spirit is life, because of righteousness.  But if the Spirit of
Hi that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from
the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwells in you”.
Paul tells us “wherefore remember, that you being in time past Gentiles in the
flesh, who are called uncircumcision by that which is called circumcision in the flesh
made by hands.  That at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the
commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no
hope, and without God in the world.  But now in Christ Jesus you who sometimes
were far off are made near by the blood of Christ” (Ephesians 2:11-13); also in
Philippians 4:13 he says “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”.
We have to remember to stop trying to do things on our own, and give it to the
Lord.

It is important for us to remember the great works that God has done (Psalms 77:
11-15) “I will remember the works of the Lord Yahweh surely I will remember Your
wonders of old.  I will meditate also of all Your work, and talk of Your doings.  Your
way, O God, is in the sanctuary; who is so great a God as our God?  You are the
God that does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the people.  You
have with Your arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah”.

Jesus rebukes His disciples (Mark 8:17-21) “and when Jesus knew it, He says to
them, why reason you, because you have no bread?  Perceive you not yet, neither
understand?  Have you your heart yet hardened?  Having eyes, see you not?  And
having ears, hear you not?  And do you not remember?  When I broke the five
loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took you up?
They say to Him, twelve.  And when the seven among four thousand, how many
baskets full of fragments took you up?  And they said, seven.  And He said to
them, how is it that you do not understand”?

Jesus writes to the church of Ephesus in Revelation 2:1-5,7, which says “to the
angel of the church of Ephesus write; these things says He that holds the seven
stars in His right hand, who walks in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks.  I
know your works, and your labor, and your patience, and how you can not bear
them which are evil; and you have tried them which say they are apostles, and are
not, and have found them liars.  And have borne, and have patience, and for My
name’s sake have labored, and have not fainted.  Nevertheless I have somewhat
against you, because you have left your first love.  Remember therefore from
where you are fallen, and repent, and do the first works, or else I will come to you
quickly, and will remove your candlestick out of its place, except you repent.  He
that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches, to him that
overcomes will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise
of God”.

We have to remember that God is for us (Romans 8:31-32) “what shall we then say
to these things?  If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not His
own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give
us all thing”?
