Walking with God
Adam walked with God in the cool of the day, before he fell, and because God is the
same, yesterday, today and forever, if He walked with man, He will still walk with man
today.
The Bible ask this question in Amos 3:3 it says “Can two walk together, except they be
agreed?”
Lets look at some who are recorded to have walked with God:
Enoch walked with God, and pleased God in such a way that he was translated that he
should not see death (Genesis 5:22-24, Hebrews 11;5).
Noah walked with God and by faith built the Ark which God had told him to do, even
though he had never seen rain (Genesis 6:5-14, Hebrews 11:7). When you think of
how much the world must have mocked him, and how long it must have took to build,
his faith was high and pleasing to God.
Abram (Abraham) walked with God, he stepped out and left not knowing where he was
going Genesis 12:4 says “So Abram departed, as the Lord had spoken to him. And
even though he didn’t do every thing right in Genesis 17:1-2 says “And when Abram
was ninety years old and nine, the Lord (Yahweh) appeared to Abram; and said to
him, I am the Almighty God, walk before Me and be you perfect, and I will make My
covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” Jacob reveals this
in Genesis 48;15 “God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac did walk, the God
which fed me all my life long to this day.”
Israel was tested as they were led out of Egypt (Exodus 16:4) “then said the Lord
Yahweh to Moses, behold I will rain bread from heaven for you and the people shall go
out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether, they will walk
in My law, or not.”
The Bible tells us how to walk:
Psalms 1:1-3 “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor
stands in the way of sinners; nor sits in the seat of the scornful, but his delight is in the
law of the Lord Yahweh, and in His law does he meditate day and night, and he shall
be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season; its
leaf also shall not wither, and whatsoever he does shall prosper.” David wrote this in
Psalms 56:13 “for You have delivered my soul from death; will not You deliver my feet
from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living”. Psalms 119:1, 3 says
“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord Yahweh. They
also do no iniquity; they walk in His ways.”
Jesus told those that believed on Him in John 8:31-32 “If you continue in My word, then
are you My disciples indeed, and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make
you free.” Jesus said in Luke 6:46 “why call you Me, Lord, Lord and do not the things
which I say.” John 15:4-8 makes it clear for all to understand. I John says it clearly in
verse 2:3-6, 3:4-9. II John 6 says “and this is love; that we walk after His
commandments.”
Paul wrote to the Galatians and in verse 5:16, 25 “walk in the Spirit and you shall not
fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Remember the Spirit is the Word. He says in Romans 8:1-
2, 9-11 that the choice is ours, verse 14 says “for as many as are led by the Spirit of
God, they are the sons of God. Ephesians 4:1 we are told to walk worthy of the
vocation wherewith you are called. I Thessalonians 2:12 says it again “that you would
walk worthy of God, who has called you to His kingdom and glory.” We have been
called to manifest the glory of God (Romans 9:23-24; II Thessalonians 2:14). A lot of
people quote Romans 8:28 “and we know that all things work together for good to
them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose,” But after
looking into God’s word, we see we are called to manifest the glory of God (Ephesians
2:10)”for we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God
has before ordained that we should walk in them”. Now are you manifesting His glory?
Can people see God in you? Ephesians 5:8 says “for you were sometimes darkness,
but now are you light in the Lord, walk as children of light.” Colossians 2:6 says “as
you have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk you in Him.” Can one be
saved and not manifest the glory of God? Yes, but if they walk with God they will
manifest the glory of God in this life and go to heaven when they die. We have to walk
in love to manifest the glory.
John wrote to the early church commending them for walking in the truth (III John 3-4).
Jesus commending the Philadelphian church because they kept His word and denied
not His name (Revelations 3:8).
I wrote a lesson on religion vs relationship, so I won’t go completely into it, but when
you have a religion you know about God, but when you have a relationship you know
God. The Bible tells us to know God, know = intimate with. The Bible says “draw near
to God and He will draw near to you” (James 4:8a).
I John 1:3 says “that you also may have fellowship with us, and truly our fellowship is
with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ” fellowship = sharing things in common
with. What believers share in common with God is a relationship as well as God’s own
holy character (I Peter 1:15) “But as He which has called you is holy, so be you holy in
all manner of conversation: because it is written “Be you holy; for I am holy/”. Some
might say, we are not under the law, but Jesus said that He did not come to destroy
the law, but to fulfill it. He went on to answer when He was asked which was the
greatest commandment in Matthew 22:37-40 that on these two commandments hang
all the law and the prophets. Jesus prayed that we would be one with Them in John
17:21-26. We are predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son (Romans 8:
29).
