Waiting on the Lord
Waiting on the Lord has two different aspects. Waiting as a waiter or waitress
would wait on God. Doing what God has told them to do; serving Him. And waiting
as trusting God to react,. to remain in a readiness or expectation, a confident
expectation by God’s people that the Lord will intervene on their behalf.
The only thing we should just wait for God to do is to vindicate them, God says
“vengeance is Mine, I will repay”. Romans 12:17-21 says “recompense to no man
evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. If it be possible, as much
as lies in you, live peaceably with all men. Dearly beloved, avenge not your
selves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, vengeance is Mine. I will
repay, says the Lord. Therefore, if your enemy hunger, feed him, if he thirst, give
him drink, for in so doing you shall heap coals of fire on his head. Be not
overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good”. Galatians 6:7-9 says “be not
deceived, God is not mocked, for whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap.
For he that sows to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption, but he that sows to
the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting. And let us not be weary in well
doing, for in due season, we shall reap, if we faint not”.
Many people confuse the two by folding their hands and saying if God is going to
do it, it will happen. But we have a part to do. Let us look at Abram who was latter
called Abraham.
Some look at Abram who was 75 years old when he heard the voice of God and
followed Him (Genesis 12:1-4) “Now the Lord Yahweh, had said to Abram, get you
out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father’s house, to a land
that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and
make your name great and you shall be a blessing. And I will bless them that bless
you, and curse him that curses you, and in you shall all families of the earth be
blessed. So Abram departed, as the Lord Yahweh had spoken to him, and Lot
went with him, and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of
Haran”.
Then seeing that he was a hundred years old when he got the promised son, and
thinking it took twenty five years, but actually when Abram was ninety nine years
old when God visited him and changed his name to Abraham, which means “father
of many nations”, and got Abraham to say what God had said; and the child was
born within a year (Genesis 17) “and when Abram was ninety years old and nine,
the Lord Yahweh appeared to Abram, and said to him, I am the Almighty God, walk
before Me, and be you perfect. And I will make My covenant between Me and you,
and will multiply you exceedingly” (verses 1,2). “as for Me, behold, My covenant is
with you, and you shall be a father of many nations. Neither shall your name any
more be called, Abram, but your name shall be Abraham, for a father of many
nations have I made you. And I will make you exceeding fruitful, and I will make
nations of you, and kings shall come out of you” (verses 4-6).
“And God said to Abraham, as for Sarai your wife, you shall not call her name
Sarai, but Sarah shall her name be. And I will bless her and give you a son also of
her, yea, I will bless her and she shall be a mother of nations, kings of people shall
be of her. Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart.
Shall a child be born to him that is an hundred years old? and shall Sarah, that is
ninety years old, bear? And Abraham said to God, O that Ishmael might live
before You? And God said, Sarah your wife shall bear you a son indeed, and you
shall call his name Isaac, and I will establish My covenant with him for an
everlasting covenant, and with his seed after him” (verses 15-19).
We know that after waiting for eleven years, the problem is that Abram was waiting
for God to do it all. But Psalms 68:11 says “The Lord Yahweh gave the word,
great was the company of those that published it”. Abram didn’t speak what God
said (Genesis 15:1-4) “After these things the word of the Lord came to Abram in a
vision, saying, fear not, Abram, I am your shield, and your exceeding great
reward. And Abram said, Lord God, what will you give me, seeing I go childless,
and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? And Abram said,
behold, to me You have given no seed, and lo, one born in my house is my heir.
And behold, the word of the Lord Yahweh cam to him, saying, this shall not be your
heir; but he that shall come forth out of your own bowels shall be your heir”.
Abram was eighty six years when Sarai gave him her hand maid, and by Hagar,
Ishmael was born, but this was not the promised child, this was the child of the
flesh. Abram and Sarai trying to help God out.
After God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, which means “father of many
nations”, every time he said his name, he was saying what God said. And Isaac
was born.
When Abraham was tested, to take his son Isaac and sacrifice him as a brunt
offering, Abraham was able to take him the next morning, trusting that He would
raise him up if he did sacrifice him (Hebrews 11:17-19) “by faith, Abraham, when
he was tried, offered up Isaac; and he that had received the promises offered up
his only begotten son. Of whom it was said, that in Isaac shall your seed be
called. Accounting that God was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from
where also he received him in a figure”. You see by this time Abraham was “fully
persuaded” (Romans 4:21).
Abram started out waiting for God to do it, but after his name change, he began to
trust God and expect it to happen, and spoke his name, saying what God had said
and the promise, it manifested in the natural.
Don’t beat your selves up, if you examine yourself and see you are in the waiting
for God to do it mode; but move over to waiting on God as a waiter or waitress
would do. Remember that God calls those things which be not as though they
were (Romans 4:17) “as it is written, I have made you a father of many nations,
before Him whom he believed, even God, who makes alive the dead, and calls
those things which be not as though they were”.
Now the world says, if you don’t say it like it is, you are lying; but when God gives
you a promise, even when you don’t see it in the natural, if God said it, it is the
truth.
Jesus said “it is finished” as He was on the cross (, meaning that He had finished
the work which the Father gave Him to do). We are made the righteousness of
God, right now. We are heirs of God and join heirs of Jesus. Proverbs 10:22 says
“the blessings of the Lord Yahweh, it makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it”.
And in Ephesians 1:3 says “blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ”.
The Bible is a “will”, it is God’s last will and testament (Hebrews 9:14b-17) “the
blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God,
purge your conscience from dead works t serve the living God. And for this cause,
He is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the
redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which
are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance. For where a testament
is there must also of necessity be the death of the testators. Jesus after dying left
us the things enclosed in this Bible.
The gospel is for forgiveness and an inheritance that now belongs to us; Paul as
he was on the road to Damascus, met Jesus (Acts 26:15-18) “And I said, who are
You, Lord? And He said, I am Jesus, whom you persecute. But rise, and stand
upon your feet for I have appeared to you for this purpose to make you a minister,
and a witness both of these things which you have seen, and of those things in the
which I will appear to you. Delivering you from the people, and from the Gentiles,
to whom, now I send you. To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to
light, and from the power of satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of
sins, and inheritance among them, which are sanctified by faith that is in Me”.
God is not going to do what He gave mankind power to do. Jesus gave us power
over the enemies (Luke 10:19) which says “behold, I give to you power to tread on
serpents, and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by
any means hurt you”.
Jesus also gave us the keys to the kingdom (Matthew 16:17-19) “And Jesus
answered and said to him, blessed are you, Simon Barjona, for flesh and blood
has not revealed it to you, but My Father, which is in heaven. and I say also to
you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock, I will build My church, and the gates of
hell shall not prevail against it. and I will give to you the keys to the kingdom of
heaven and what so ever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven; and
whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”.
The problem is that people are saying what they see, but the Bible says “
let the redeemed of the Lord Yahweh say so, whom He has redeemed from the
hand of the enemy” (Psalms 107:2). In other words, you are redeemed from
poverty, sickness, etc., so say so.
Psalms 103:1-5 says “Bless the Lord Yahweh, O my soul, and all that is with in me,
bless His holy name. Bless the Lord Yahweh, O my soul, and forget not all His
benefits. Who forgives all your iniquities, who heal all your diseases. Who
redeems your life from destruction, and tender mercies. Who satisfies your mouth
with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagles”.
Waiting therefore, is the working out of hope. Paul says “work our your own
salvation”. What promises are you trusting God for, speak what God says about
them. Just like God told Joshua, as you meditate on the word of God until it
become real to you and you can see yourself doing it. Then success will come.
