Releasing Our Authority
Knowing that we have authority and then being able to release it, is a major
task for us to learn. In Genesis 1:26 the Bible says “and God said, let Us
make man in Our image, after Our likeness and let them have dominion over
the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over
all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth”.
Remember that we are made in the image and likeness of God and He
released His authority with words. Over and over in chapter one of Genesis,
it says “and God said, and God saw”.
Our authority is released through our words too; Jesus said in Matthew 12:
33-37 “either make the tree good; and its fruit good; o else make the tree
corrupt; and its fruit corrupt; for the tree is known by its fruit. O generation
of vipers, how can you, being evil, speak good things; for out of the
abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good
treasure of the heart brings forth good things; and an evil man out of the evil
treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you, that every idle word that
men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For
by your words you shall be justified; and by your words you shall be
condemned”.
Job 22:28 says “you shall also decree a thing, and it shall be established to
you, and the light shall shine upon your way”. And then in Proverbs 18:20-
21 the Bible says “a man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth;
and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled. Death and life are in the
power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.
Prayer and the name of Jesus gives us the authority to stop the work of the
devil and release the work of God (Matthew 16:18-19) Jesus says “and I say
to you, that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build My church; and the
gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give to you the keys of the
kingdom of heaven, and whatsoever you shall bind on earth, shall be bound
in heaven, and whatsoever you shall loose on earth shall be loosed in
heaven”.
Jesus taught the disciples to pray, and He said in Matthew 6:9-10 “after this
manner therefore pray you, Our Father which are in heaven. Hallowed be
Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done in earth, as it is in
heaven”.
Just like God gave mankind authority to have dominion in Genesis; Jesus
gave us back that authority; in Luke 9:1-2 He gave His disciples authority;
the Bible says “then He called His twelve disciples together, and gave them
power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And He sent them
to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick”.
Jesus also gave authority to another seventy in Luke 10:1, 17 it says “after
these things the Lord appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and
two before His face into every city and place, where He Himself would come.
And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are
subject to us through Your name”.
Jesus gives us authority over devils (Luke 10:19) “behold, I give to you
power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the power of the
enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. And in Mark 16:15-18
Jesus says “and He said to them, Go you into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every creature. He that believes and is baptized shall be saved,
but he that believes not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them
that believe. In My name shall they cast out devils, they shall speak with new
tongues. They shall take up serpents and if they drink and deadly thing, it
shall not hurt them, they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover”.
We have to realize our authority in the name of Jesus, and John 16:23-24
Jesus says “here before you have asked Me nothing. Verily, verily, I say to
you; whatsoever you shall ask the Father in My name, He will give it you.
Here before to have you asked nothing in My name; ask, and you shall
receive, that your joy may be full”.
Jesus is coming back for a glorious church, and I believe that the glorious
church is something like the early church was, who believed that the Holy
Spirit living on the inside of them, enabled them to do what Jesus said in
John 14:12-14 “Verily, verily, I say to you, he that believes on Me, the works
that I do shall he do also, and greater works than these shall he do because
I go to My Father. And whatsoever you shall ask in My name, that will I do,
that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I
will do it”.
Over and over you see the early church using the authority given to them
and doing many miracles in the name of Jesus (Acts 6:7-8) “and the word of
God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem
greatly, and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. And
Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the
people”. Again in Acts 8:5-8 it says “then Philip went down to the city of
Samaria and preached Christ to them. And the people with one accord gave
heed to those things which Philip spoke, hearing and seeing the miracles
which he did. For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice came out of many
that were possessed with them, and many taken with palsies, and that were
lame, were healed. And there was great joy in that city”.
In Acts 19:11-12 we see Paul, it says “and God wrought special miracles by
the hand of Paul. So that from his body were brought to the sick
handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil
spirits went out of them”.
Jesus walked in great authority, He says in (John 8:28) “then said Jesus to
them, when you have lifted up the Son of Man, then shall you know that I am
He, and that I do nothing of Myself; but as My Father has taught Me, I speak
these things”. Jesus said that He only does and speaks what He hears the
Father do and say. When He spoke, His words had great power because
His words were from God.
Psalms 68:11 says “the Lord gave the word, great was the company of those
that published it”. When we speak the word of God, we speak with power
because the word of God does not return to Him void (Isaiah 55:11) “so shall
My words be that goes forth, out of My mouth, it shall not return to Me void,
but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I send it”.
We can know what God wants us to say (I Corinthians 2:9-14) “but as it is
written, eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart
of man, the things which God has prepared for them that love Him. But God
has revealed them to us by His Spirit, for the Spirit searches all things, yea,
the deep things of God. For what man knows the things of man, save the
spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knows no man, but
the Spirit of God. Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the
Spirit which is of God, that we might know the things that are freely given to
us of God. Which things also we speak; not in the words which man’s
wisdom teaches, but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things
with spiritual. But the natural man receives not the things of the Spirit of
God, for they are foolishness to him, neither can he know them, because
they are spiritually discerned”.
