Our Father

On Sunday the world celebrated “father’s day”, and I started to think about our
heavenly Father.  Our Father God, is seeking to have a relationship with us, just
like He had with Adam before the fall of mankind.  Adam walked with God in the
cool of the day, and talked with Him.  After Adam fell into the trap of the devil, God
didn’t leave mankind in that state, but He provided a way to be restored to our
heavenly Father.

A father is one who has the responsibility of providing for the family and giving
instructions to.  Along with the honor of the position as head of the family.  The
father was expected to give the spiritual well being to the family, as well as seeing
that no one took advantage of any member of his family.  The father was to
provide for the needs of the members of his family.  From this background we can
appreciate God as our Father more fully.  He protects His children and rescues
them when they get into trouble.  He teaches them the way they should go
(Proverbs 3:5-7) “trust in the Lord Yahweh with all your heart, and lean not to
your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct
your paths.  Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord Yahweh and depart from
evil”.  He supplies all of their needs (Matthew 6:33) Jesus says “but seek you first
the kingdom of God, and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added
to you”; and (Philippians 4:19) Paul says “but my God shall supply all your needs
according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus”.

Many people don’t understand our heavenly Father’s love for us, because some
of our earthly fathers didn’t represent the father figure; and some don’t even
know their earthly fathers.  But good news is that our heavenly Father has
adopted us as His children (Romans 8:14-17a) “for as many as are led by the
Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.  For you have not received the spirit of
bondage again to fear; but you have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we
cry, Abba, Father.  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit, that we are the
children of God.  And if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with
Christ’.

I John 3:1-3 says “behold, what manner of love the Father has bestowed upon us,
that we should be called the sons of God, therefore the world knows us not,
because it knew Him not.  Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it does not
yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be
like Him; for we shall see Him as He is.  And every man that has this hope in Him
purifies himself, even as He is pure”.

God loves us, should help us when the devil comes to deceive us.

God becomes our Father through Jesus Christ (John 1:12-13) “but as many as
received Him (Jesus), to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to
them that believe on His name.  Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of
the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God”.

Jesus teaches us to call God, our Father (Matthew 6:9-13) Jesus says “after this
manner therefore pray you; Our Father, which are in heaven, Hallowed be Your
name.  Your kingdom come.  Your will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.  Give
us this day our daily bread.  And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.  For Yours is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever, Amen”.

In John 17th chapter Jesus prayed for us, verses 15-23, it says “I pray not that
You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the
evil one.  They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.  Sanctify them
through Your truth; Your word is truth.  As You have sent Me into the world, even
so have I also sent them into the world.  And for their sakes, I sanctify Myself, that
they also might be sanctified through the truth.  Neither pray I for these alone; but
for them also which shall believe on Me through their word.  That they all may be
one, as You Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us that
the world may believe that You have sent Me.  And the glory which You gave Me, I
have given them; that they may be one, even as We are one.  I in them, and You
in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that
You have sent Me, and have loved them, as You have loved Me”.

We know that this is true because God sacrificed Jesus to redeem all of mankind
(John 3:16-18) “for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  For
God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world
through Him might be saved.  He that believes in Him is not condemned; but he
that believes not is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name
of the only begotten Son of God”.

We also see in II Corinthians 5:19-21 which says “to say, that God was in Christ,
reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has
committed to us the word of reconciliation.  Now then we are ambassadors for
Christ, as though God did beseech you by us; we pray you in Christ’s stead, be
you reconciled to God.  For He (God the Father) has made Him (Jesus) to be sin
for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him”.

Jesus taught of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-18; 22-24) “and He said, a certain
man had two sons.  And the younger of them said to his father, father give me the
portion of goods that falls to me, and he divided to them his living.  And not many
days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far
country, and thee wasted his substance with riotous living.  And when he had
spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land, and he began to be in want.
And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into
the fields to feed swine.  And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that
the swine did eat; and no man gave to him.  And when he came to himself, he
said, how many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare,
and I perish with hunger.  I will arise and go to my father, and will say to him,
Father I have sinned against heaven, and before you.  But the father said to his
servants, bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand,
and shoes on his feet.  And bring here the fatted calf, and kill it, and le us eat,
and be merry.  For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is
found, and they began to be merry”.

All of us have disappointed our heavenly Father by going our own way in life
(Ephesians 2:1-5) “and you has He quickened, who were dead in trespasses and
sins.  Wherein in time past you walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air; the spirit that now works in the
children of disobedience.  Among whom also we all had our conversation in times
past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and
were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.  But God, who is rich in
mercy, for His great love wherewith He loved us.  Even when we were dead in
sins, has quickened us together with Christ, by grace you are saved”.

We thank God the Father that He receives us when we come to our senses (I
John 1:9) “if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and
to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”.
