Our Bible is the Word of God

The world tells you that the Bible is just an old book and is not relevant  to
today, it is full of fables and fairy tales, but Paul commends Timothy to
“continue you in the things which you have learned and have been assured
of, knowing of whom you have learned them.  And that from a child you
have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise to
salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  All scripture is given by
inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness.  That the man of God may be perfect,
thoroughly furnished to all good works”.  Because of this the devil will try to
keep people from reading, studying and meditating on the word of God, he
will bring in all kinds of distractions, to try to stop you from walking in the
ways of God, but it won’t work unless you give in.

Many people look at reading the Bible as a chore, and some even look at
the Bible as a lot of stories, yet they don’t have the insight to realize that
because God is not a respecter of persons, if it happened before, that it
can happen for them.

The Bible is a treasure chest of the promises of God.  God’s word has
power to fulfill His will (Isaiah 55:11) says “so shall My word be that goes
forth out of My mouth, it shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish
that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”.  Jesus
says “a good man out of the good treasure of the heart brings forth good
things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things”.
When you fill yourself up on the word of God, you will bring forth good
things.

The Bible is a love letter from God and it is to be man’s operating manual
for living her on earth, it is written for our instruction (Romans 15:4).  The
solution to every problem can be found in the word of God.  The word of
God gives a way to escape (I Corinthians 10:13).   The Bible says that the
word of God is spirit and life, so as we speak life over our circumstances,
change will occur.

When the word is heard and responded to, His word meets deep needs in
the human heart and provides joy, satisfaction, and confident direction that
can be achieved in no other manner (Psalms 68:11) “the Lord gave the
word, great was the company of those that published it”, proclaimed it.  We
have to believe the word and then speak the word with boldness, “We
having the same spirit of faith according as it is written.  I believed therefore
have I spoken, we also believe and speak” (II Corinthians 4:13).

Proverbs 4:20-23 says “my son, attend to my words, incline your ear to my
sayings.  Let them not depart from your eyes, keep them in the midst of
your heart.  For they are life to those that find them, and health to all their
flesh.  Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the issues of life”.
This sounds like what God told Joshua in Joshua 1:8 “this book of the law
shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate therein day and
night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written therein, for
then you shall make your way prosperous, and they you shall have good
success”.

Read through Matthew 4:1-12 and Luke 4:1-13 as Jesus was led into the
wilderness being tempted of the devil, you will see that Jesus defeated the
devil by saying “it is written” then proclaiming what was written contrary to
what the devil was trying to tempt Him with.  We as followers of Jesus,
should do the same thing.

God says “My people perish for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6).  We are
instructed to study to show ourselves approved to God, a workman that
needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:
15).  Paul commends the Bereans in Acts 17:10-11, which says “ and the
brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night to Berea, who
coming there went into the synagogue of the Jews.  These were more noble
than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness
of mind, and searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so”.
They not only hear the word, but they examined what they heard based on
the scriptures.

When describing the Bible you sometimes hear that James says this or
Peter said that, and even though they were the writers, the real truth is that
“knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private
interpretation.  For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man, but
holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit”. (II Peter 20-
21).

I say many times that we have to make the Bible the final authority in our
lives.  Picture this Jesus didn’t begin when He was born on this earth, He
was there in the beginning (John 1:1-3,14) “in the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  The Same was in the
beginning with God.  All things were made by Him, and without Him was not
any thing made that was made.  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt
among us, and we behold His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the
Father, full of grace and truth”.

The Word that they had became flesh, and dwelt with them; the scriptures
became real to them.  We have to meditate on the Word of God until it
becomes real to us. He is the Word and we have to thank God that He
made a way for us to have the Word.  That shouldn’t be so hard for us to
believe the Bible, because “God is not a man that He should lie”.  Jesus
says “man should not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds
out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4).

James tells us to be a doer of the word (James 1:22-25) “but be you doers
of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.  For if any be
a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like to a man beholding his
natural face in a glass.  For he beholds himself, and goes his way, and
immediately forgets what manner of man he was.  But whoso looks into the
perfect law of liberty, and continues therein, he being not a forgetful hearer,
but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed”.  To be a
doer, we must take the Bible as the final authority over any problem,
because the Word of God is the truth.

The Bible tells us to put on the new man (Ephesians 4:17-24) the new man
is who you are in Christ, regenerated.  We have to leave our past behind,
because as II Corinthians 5:17 says “if any man be in Christ, he is a new
creature, old things are passed away, behold, all things are become new”.
We are no longer a sinner, we have to get our mind renewed to who we
really are.  Our real nature is Christ likeness; remember that’s who God
predestined us to be (Romans 8:30).

The Word builds our faith (Romans 10:17) “so then faith comes by hearing,
and hearing by the word of God”.  Acts 20:32 says “and now, brethren, I
commend you to God, and to the word of His grace, which is able to build
you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified”.
