Only the Truth Can Set You Free
God’s word is truth (Psalms 33:4) “for the word of the Lord Yahweh is right;
and all His works are done in truth”; (Psalms 119:160) “Your word is true from
the beginning; and every one of Your righteous judgments endures for ever”;
Jesus prayed to the Father in (John 17:17) “sanctify them through Your truth;
Your word is truth”.
God gives us the choice, God told Moses to speak to the Israelites to return to
the Lord Yahweh and obey His voice, (Deuteronomy 30:6-16) “and the Lord
Yahweh your God will circumcise your heart, and the heart of your seed, to
love the Lord Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, that
you may live. And the Lord Yahweh your God will put all these curses upon
your enemies, and on them that hate you, which persecuted you. And you
shall return and obey the voice of the Lord Yahweh, and do all His
commandments which I command you this day. And the Lord Yahweh your
God will make you plenteous in every work of your hand, in the fruit of your
body, and in the fruit of your cattle, and in the fruit of your land, for good; for
the Lord Yahweh will again rejoice over you for good, as He rejoiced over your
fathers. If you shall hearken to the voice of the Lord Yahweh your God, to
keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the
law, and if you turn to the Lord Yahweh your God with all your heart, and with
all your soul. For this commandment which I command you this day, it is not
hidden from you, neither is it far off. It is not in heaven, that you should say,
who shall go up for us to heaven, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and
do it. neither is it beyond the sea, that you should say, who shall go over the
sea for us, and bring it to us, that we may hear it and do it. But the word is
very near to you, in your mouth, and in your heart, that you may do it. see I
have set before you this day life and good, and death and evil. In that I
command you this day to love the Lord Yahweh your God, to walk in His ways,
and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His judgments, that you
may live and multiply; and the Lord Yahweh your God shall bless you in the
land where you go to posses it”. Remember verse 19 says “I call heaven and
earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death,
blessing and cursing, therefore choose life, that both you and your seed may
live”. The choice is ours.
Jesus was described as the One that teaches the way of God in truth (Luke
20:20-21), “and they watched Him, and sent forth spies, which should feign
themselves just men, that they might take hold of His words, that so they might
deliver Him to the power and authority of the governor. And they asked Him,
saying, Master, we know that You say and teach rightly, neither accept You
the person of any, but teach the way of God, truly”. Nicodemus the ruler of
the Jews came to Jesus by night and said to Him, Rabbi, we know that You are
a teacher come from God, for no man can do these miracles that You do
except God be with Him (John 3:1-2).
Jesus is the word and He says “I am the way, the truth, and the life; no man
comes to the Father but by Me” (John 14:6). Jesus also says in (John 8:31-
32) “then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, if you continue in
My word, then are you My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and
the truth shall make you free”. Jesus is the word of God and we are told to
continue in His word. The word of God makes us free from any circumstance.
Jesus defeated the devil in the wilderness by saying “it is written”; He spoke
the word of God which turned what the devil was trying to tempt Him with to no
effect (Luke 4:3-12); verse 13 says, “and when the devil had ended all the
temptation, he departed from Him for a season”.
Jesus tells us that God wants us to worship Him in Spirit and in truth (John 4:
23-24), “but the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers shall
worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father seeks such to worship
Him. God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and
in truth”.
God desires all mankind to come to the knowledge of the truth; and Paul
writes that we are to pray for all men (I Timothy 2:1-4); “I exhort therefore, that
first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made
for all men. For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a
quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and
acceptable in the sight of God our Savior. Who will have all men to be saved,
and to come to the knowledge of the truth”. By praying for others instead of
getting mad at them, we are helping God. Jesus told us to pray for those who
hurt and use us (Matthew 5:44-45), “but I say to you, love your enemies, bless
them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which
despitefully use you, and persecute you. That you may be the children of
your Father which is in heaven, for He makes His sun to rise on the evil and
on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust”.
We are called to be salt and light to a dying world (Matthew 5:13-16), “you are
the salt of the earth, but if the salt have lost its savor, wherewith shall it be
salted? It is therefore good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden
under foot of men. You are the light of the world, a city that is set on an hill
cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but
on a candlestick; and it gives light to all that are in the house. Let your light
so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your
Father, which is in heaven”.
We are told to study (II Timothy 2:15), “study to show yourself approved o
God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of
truth”. This indicates that some can wrongly divide the word of truth (verses
16-18), “but shun profane and vain babblings; for they will increase to more
ungodliness. And their word will eat as does a canker; of whom is Hymenaeus
and Philetus. Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the
resurrection is past already, and over throw the faith of some”.
Many people even Christians think that if you obey God’s laws, you are
rejecting the gift of grace and going back into bondage, but when you read
(Romans 8:1-2), which says “there is therefore now, no condemnation to
them, which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the
Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from
the law of sin and death”. As you see we are made free by the law of the
Spirit of life. The law of sin and death is when people try obey the law, based
on their own righteousness, trying to get to heaven by their own deeds. We
are not to do good deeds to be saved, it is a free gift, but because being
saved by grace, we acknowledge our thankfulness and desiring to be like our
heavenly Father. Remember that God has predestined us to be conformed to
the image of His Son.
