Laughter -  blithesomeness, or glee,  pleasure, gladness, cheerfulness, in merriment,
in pleasure

A  pleasant emotion; delight.  To show mirth or joy.  Many levels of joy are also
described, including, gladness, contentment, jubilant, acclamation, shouting aloud for
triumph, spinning around, exalt-to jump for joy, and cheerfulness.

God sits in the heavens and laugh (Ps 2:1-4 and remember we are seated in heavenly
places in Christ (Eph 2:6).  Sarah laughed after Isaac was born (Gen 21:6).  The joy
that the people of God should have is holy and pure.  This joy rises above
circumstances and focuses on the very character of God.  For example, the psalmist
rejoices over God’s righteousness (Ps71:14-16), salvation (Ps 21:1-The king shall joy
in Your strength, O LORD and in Your salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!;  71:23-
My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing to You, and my soul, which You have
redeemed.), mercy (Ps 31:7), creation (Ps 148:5), word (Ps 119-14. 162), and
faithfulness (Ps 33:1-6).  God’s characteristics as well as His acts are the cause of
rejoicing. (Neh 8:10; Ps 16:11, 35:27)

As you put your trust in God you will rejoice.  You do not need to wonder, be in fear, or
worry over whether or not you are going to make it.  God is your defender.  He is your
guard.

God’s Word says to rejoice, recognizing that as we rejoice, we bring in the power and
protection of God (Phil 4:4; I Thess 5:16).  When we start to praise God for things in
our life, our joy level is raised (our expectation) and we go from glory to glory.

The joy required of the righteous person (Ps 149-1-6; 150) is produced by the Spirit of
God (Gal 5:22).  This kind of joy looks beyond the present to our  salvation (Rom 4:24-
5:2;  I Pet 1:4,6) and to our sovereign God, who works out all things for our ultimate
good, which is Christ likeness (Rom 8:28-30)  This kind of joy is distinct from mere
happiness.  Joy like this is possible, even in the midst of sorrow (James 1:2-4  If I
choose to rejoice in the midst of the test then I am one step closer to victory in that
trial; ( II Cor 6:10; 7:4)

God shows us how to rejoice even in despair (II Tim 1:6).  Creflo Dollar said it this
way,  “Get hooked up with someone on fire and join yourself to him , it’s like charging a
battery.”  Phil 4:6-9, cast your cares upon the Lord for He cares for you.

A merry heart does go like a medicine. (Prov 15:13, 15, 17:22).  Even doctors know
now that people who laugh a lot seem to heal faster.
.
Smile – expect good things to happen to you (Prov 3:13-18).  Smile because you are a
born again child of God.  Smile because your name is written in the Lamb’s book of life
(Luke 10:20).  Smile because you look better and younger.  We laugh because our
expectation and our hope is in God.  We know He is able to change our circumstances.

The Bible tells you how to rejoice (Eph 5:19-20).

Satan can’t figure us out when we laugh, even in the midst of trials (Ps 126:1-6).  In
Job 5:20-22 it says, “In famine He shall redeem you from death and in war from the
power of the sword.  You shall be hid from the scourge of the tongue, neither shall you
be afraid of destruction when it comes.  At destruction and famine you shall laugh;
neither shall you be afraid of the beasts of the earth”.  The book also speaks of
laughter in Job 8:19-22, 22:18-21.   Remember Jesus said, “Blessed are you that
hunger now for you shall be filled.  Blessed are you that weep now, for you shall laugh”
(Luke 6:21).
