Knowing & Praying the Will of God
A lot of people end their prayers “if it be Thy will” and that in essence brings doubt
into it. As Mark ll:23-24 the key is believing what you say when you pray, and you
can’t believe when you don’t know His will about it. (I John 5:14-15) You see the
importance of knowing God’s will. When Jesus prayed in the garden, He knew the will
of the Father. His humanity didn’t want to go to the cross, but He agreed to the
Father’s will. The closer He got to the cross His flesh was trying to find another way.
When we saw the movie Passion of the Christ, we saw how much He had to go
through.
A good way to know the will of God for your life is in (Eph 1:15-18;
Col 1:9-12) we can pray for our eyes to be opened. I was challenged to pray this
prayer for 6 months for my purpose and when I did I heard from God telling me I was
a teacher and showing me my ministry. I challenge you to do it. When you pray,
make it personal. Remember Solomon prayed for wisdom to fulfill his purpose and
God said it was good (I King 3:7-14). We can also pray Paul’s prayer to ask for some
else to be enlighten.
Another good way to know God’s will is to look at Jesus. The disciples asked Jesus to
teach them to pray. (Matt 6:5-15, Luke 11-1-4) Some people say the payer, and you
can say it. The Bible says, “say our Father…” Some people use it as a pattern for
prayer, a guideline showing us to recognize God as the Father and Honoring His
name. Asking for His kingdom to come and His will to be done on earth as it is in
heaven. Now that is it. Think of what it’s like in heaven, and you will know the will of
God. There is no sickness or disease, poverty or lack in heaven. (Ex 23:25, Ps 103:
3, Rev 7:16-17).
The Bible says God doesn’t want any to perish (II Pet 3:9), so you can see Jesus
came seeking and saving them that was lost (Luke 19:10). The Bible says He sent
His Word and healed them (Ps 107:20). So, Jesus came casting out demons and
healing all that were oppressed of the devil (Acts 10:38).
Jesus tell us we can do that and more (John 14:12, Mark 16:15-18).
The Bible is the Word of God and the Word of God is the Will of God. The Bible says
“not one jot…” (Isa 55:11, Matt 5:18, Luke 16:17) God says His Word is not void.
Find out what God says about your problem or situation. Remember God’s Word is
Truth. (John 15:7). We find out the will of God by reading His Word.
God says in II Chron 7:14 “if My people…” We are to stand in the gap, and as we
pray things can change. The New Testament says it like this (I Tim 2:1-3) God wants
us to pray for those in authority, not to complain about them. Moses prayed for Israel
not to be destroyed and God spared them
(Ex32:9-14). Abraham prayed for the people of Sodom & Gomorrah and asked God
to spare it if there were 10 righteous people, but there were not 10 righteous found.
(Gen 18:23-33). I believe he could have asked for 2 because God doesn’t want any
to be destroyed.
Pray one for another (James 5:14-16). Jesus told us to pray for those who use us
(Matt 5:44). When we realize that they don’t know what they are doing, they are
being used of the devil; we can forgive and let them go, and pray for their eyes to be
opened.
Pray the Word. God says, “put Me in remembrance of My Word”. (Isa 43:26) Jesus
said, “I only say what I heard My Father say”. (John 8:26)
Praying in the Spirit (Rom 8:26-27, I Cor 14:14, Eph 6:18, Jude 20)
Praying without ceasing (Eph 6:18; Phil 4:6; I Thess 5:16-18)
