The Importance of the Word of God

The word of God is the means by which God makes Himself known, declares His
will, and brings about His purpose.  His word is the primary means by which He is
present and working in this world.  He is not Himself part of this world, but He acts
in it by means of His word.  His word is powerfully creative (Ezekiel 37:4) “again He
said to me, prophesy upon these ones, and say to them, O you dry bones, hear
the word of the Lord Yahweh”.  We prophesy by speaking the word of God which
He gives to us.

God’s word and its purposes are irresistible (Isaiah 55:11) “so shall My word be
that goes forth out of My mouth, it shall not return to Me void, but it shall
accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it”.
Psalms 68:11 says “the Lord Yahweh gave the word; great was the company of
those that proclaimed it”.  We proclaim it by speaking it.  The Bible says “I believed,
therefore I have spoken”.   Jesus said “I speak only what I have heard My Father
speak”.

Jesus said as He was explaining the parable of the sower, “now the parable is this,
the seed is the word of God” (Luke 8:11), then He says “if you have faith as a grain
of mustard seed, you shall say to this mountain.  Remove here to yonder place and
it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you” (Matthew 17:20 and Luke
17:6).  Jesus said “the word that I speak to you, they are spirit and they are life”
(John 6:63); that would show that any words contrary to the word of God is death,
we are told in II Corinthians 10:4-5 says “for the weapons of our warfare are not
carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds.  Casting down
imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God,
and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”.

Now just as faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of God, fear comes by
hearing the word of the devil.  Words being seed, when they are planted in the
heart they will produce.  We are told in Proverbs 4 to guard our heart.  Jesus said
“out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth will speak” and Proverbs 18:20-21
says “a man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth, and with the
increase of his lips shall he be filled.  Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof”.  You plant the word of God by
speaking it.  And as we continue to read and study His word, we will begin to
believe and speak His word, and see things change in our lives.

Jesus said “man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out
of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4), He spoke this to the devil, when the devil was
trying to tempt Him in the wilderness.  Each time the devil came to Him with a
temptation, He answered “it is written”.  Jesus defeated the devil by saying “it is
written”, as He was tested in the wilderness.  Jesus as our example shows us the
way, but because many people don’t read their Bibles, they don’t know what is
written.  People that read and study their Bibles are called weird, others say if you
read the word daily, you are a legalist.  But the truth is the more word you know the
more weapons you have against the devil.  We are told not to be ignorant of the
devil’s devices (II Corinthians 2:11).

The devil is trying to get the world to disbelieve the word of God, by disputing the
Bible claiming that there are many contradictions in it.  Also by trying  to get the
word of God out of all public places.  They have taken the Bible out of the public
schools, and the results have been devastating; the public schools are so filled
with crime that they have to have police stationed in the schools.  Many schools
have metal detectors.  The same thing has happened in the court houses, when
they took the word of God out, removing the ten commandments, and even when
people are sworn in, they do not say as before “do you swear to tell the truth and
nothing but the truth, so help you God”.  Now days you have to go through metal
detectors and there is usually only one way in and out.  The world has been
moving into darkness, but we are to be “salt and light”; salt to irritate and light to
show them the way.

God’s word is totally dependable, it represents His permanent commitment (Isaiah
40:8) “the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand
forever”.  When heard and responded to, His word meets deep needs in the
human heart and provides joy, satisfaction, and confident direction that can be
achieved in no other manner.  God’s word has the power to penetrate all pretense
and discern the thoughts and intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12).

The Bible says “all things are possible to them that believe”, but even some
ministers say that there is no more healings today, and that signs and wonders are
of the devil, this causes the people to be confused, making them double minded,
and James says “if any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that gives to all men
liberally, and upbraids not; and it shall be given him.  But let him ask in faith,
nothing wavering.  For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind
and tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” (James 1:5-8).  Every time the
devil appeared, he asked a question, bring doubt.

We are told to “study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (II Timothy 2:15).  If we can rightly
divide the word of God, it can also be wrongly divided.  The Bible must be used
when dividing the word of God.  The Bible says “by the mouth of two or three
witnesses shall every word be established” (Deuteronomy 19:15. Matthew 18:16; II
Corinthians 13:1).  But you hear people saying “the Lord gave and the Lord takes
away” (Job 1:21); even thought this statement is only found in the Bible one time,
people have tried to establish it; this Job said when he was hurting, but later he
realized who God is, and said “touching the Almighty, we cannot find Him out. He is
excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice; He will not afflict” (Job
37:23).  By his first statement people are blaming God for taking away their love
ones.  By using the Bible we see that “every good gift and every perfect gift is from
above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness,
neither shadow of turning” (James 1:17); and that “God is the same yesterday,
today and forever”; and “for I am the Lord Yahweh, I change not” (Malachi 3:6a).

We are told that “the just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, Romans 1:17,
Galatians 3:11 and Hebrews 10:38), by these witnesses we can establish that we
are to live by faith.  In breaking down what faith is, Romans 10:17 says “so then
faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”.  The word of God is the
principle element of faith.  Since faith comes by hearing and hearing the word of
God, and we are supposed to live and walk by faith.  We are to live and walk by the
word of God.  The Bible also tells us that faith works by love (I Corinthians 13:2)
says “and though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries, and all
knowledge, and thought I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and
have not charity (love), I am nothing”.  We are told to be “looking diligently, less
any man fail of the grace of God, less any rot of bitterness springing up trouble
you, and thereby many be defiled”.

You see when the devil sees that you are walking by faith, he will try to get you in
un-forgiveness, so that you are not walking in love which makes faith work.  Make a
decision to stop being tricked by the devil and take the word of God as the final
authority.  If the Bible says we are to love one another, then we must love one
another, that is a commandment.  Remembering that just as we have been forgiven
for our sins, others have also (Mark 11:25-26) “and when you stand praying,
forgive, if you have anything against any; that your Father also which is in heaven
may forgive you, your trespasses.  But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father
which is in heaven forgive your trespasses”.

Peter tells us the way out of this dilemma (I Peter 5:6-9) “humble yourselves
therefore under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.
Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.  Be sober, be vigilant;
because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he
may devour.  Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions
are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world”.  Being steadfast in the
faith, is relying on the word of God, and living by it.  The Bible is a treasure chest of
seed, which when planted will produce.  To plant them, you have to say them.
