The Importance of a Good Imagination
Our imagination is the power of our mind to form a mental image. We frame
things with our mind. Our minds are like a Polaroid camera, we get a vision
from God, and it’s as if we look at a film in the natural, it may not be clear to
start, but as we meditate and ponder it, it becomes clearer in time. Just like the
film of a Polaroid camera does not develop fully right away, it takes time to set.
All things start out in someone’s imagination (Hebrews 11:3), says “through
faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that
things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”. You can see
with the mind of your imagination. Let’s look at Henry Ford, he thought about
how to make a car; or Thomas Edison thought on how to make the light bulb,
and the Wright brothers imagined they could fly; and Bill Gates imagined a
personal computer. After they meditated on these things, and even after many
failures, they persisted, the Bible tells us to “make the vision plain” (Habakkuk
2:2-3), “and the Lord Yahweh answered me, and said; write the vision, and
make it plain upon tables that he may run that read it. For the vision is yet for
an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie, though it tarry, wait
for it, because it will surely come, it will not tarry”. And the results is that now
we have cars, lights, planes and personal computers that can do amazing
things.
Imagination means to plan, to purpose, to conceive, to fabricate, to ponder and
to meditate on or think about. The world tells you not to day dream, but God
told Joshua (Joshua 1:8) “this book of the law, shall not depart from out of your
mouth, but you shall meditate therein, day and night, that you may observe to
do according to all that is written therein, for then you shall make your way
prosperous, and they you shall have good success”.
Isaiah 26:3 is a promise of God, Isaiah said “You (God) will keep him in perfect
peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You”. We set our
mind by the things we meditate on and imagine.
Another promise is found in Ephesians 3:20, which says “now to Him (God) that
is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to
the power that works in us”. We set the scale by what we ask, think and or
imagine. Remember that Jesus said that everyone that ask, receives.
God tells us many times that man’s mind is wicked (Genesis 6:5, 8:21) says
“God repented that He made man, because, God saw that the wickedness of
man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his
heart was only evil continually”.
In Genesis 11:6 God makes a statement “now nothing will be restrained from
them, which they have imagined to do”. And He was talking about a rebellious
people who tried to build the tower of Babel because they didn’t want to be
scattered, but wanted to get to heaven on their own. This sounds like a lot of
people today who don’t want to follow God’s words, but think that He is unfair if
He says that all wicked people will be cast into hell (Revelation 21). God is the
same yesterday, today and forever, so just like He confounded the language of
those who was building the tower, He will also keep His word concerning hell.
Proverbs 23:7 says “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he”. We are supposed
to think like God thinks, as you read the Bible look at what God thinks about
you, and meditate on it.
We are told in Philippians 2:5 “let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ
Jesus”. This indicates that we have a responsibility to let our mind be on
heavenly things.
Where you set your mind, will determine how you live your life. Proverbs 6:18
says that God hates a heart that devises wicked imagination. Let’s look at the
spies that spied out the land which God had promised to the Israelites. Ten of
the twelve came back with an evil report, because they imagined themselves
as grasshoppers in the eyes of the giants, but the other two believed God was
with them, and counted on Him to defeat the giants. Isaiah 53:1 and John 12:
38 says “who has believed our report? And to whom is the arm of the Lord
Yahweh revealed”?
The Bible shows us how to put our imaginations on the things of God
(Philippians 4:6-9) “be careful for nothing, but in every thing by prayer and
supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. and
the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and
minds through Christ Jesus. Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true,
honest, just, pure, lovely, of god report, if there be any virtue, and if there be
any praise, think on these things. Those things, which you have both learned,
and received, and heard, and seen in me, do; and the God of peace shall be
with you”; and (Colossians 3:1-3) says “if you then be risen with Christ, seek
those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God. Set
your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For you are dead,
and your life is hid with Christ in God”.
