Giving God Pleasure
Giving God pleasure, is pleasing Him, delighting Him, glorifying Him, blessing Him,
being agreeable.
Pleasure was part of God’s intention at creation (Revelation 4:11) says “You are
worthy O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power, for You have created all
things, and for Your pleasure they are and were created”. Hebrews 1:3 says Jesus
“who being the brightness of His glory, and the express image of His person, and
upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our
sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high”.
The Bible tells us many times what God loves and what He hates, to please Him we
should do what He loves. Jesus said “My meat it to do the will of Him, that sent Me,
and to finish His work” (John 4:34). And in John 17:4-5 Jesus says “I have glorified
You, on earth, I have finished the work which You gave Me to do. And now O
Father, glorify You Me with Your own self with the glory which I had with You before
the world began”. John writes in II John 2-4 “beloved, I wish above all things that
you may prosper, and be in health, even as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced
greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, even as
you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in
truth”.
God has “predestined us to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be
the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29); Ephesians 2:10 says “for we
are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before
ordained that we should walk in them”. And to accomplish this task in (Ephesians 4:
11-15) it says “and He gave some, apostles, and some prophets, and some
evangelists and some pastors and teachers. For the perfecting of the saints for the
work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ. Till we all come in the
unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the
measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. That we hereafter be no more
children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the
sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive. But
speaking the truth in love, may grow up into Him in all things, which is the head,
even Christ.
God did this before the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1:3-9) “Blessed be the
God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with all spiritual
blessings in heavenly places in Christ. According as He has chosen us in Him
before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before
Him in love. Having predestinated us to the adoption of children by Jesus Christ in
Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will. To the praise of the glory of His
grace, wherein He has made us accepted in the beloved. In whom we have
redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of
His grace. Where He has abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence. Having
made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He
has purposed in Himself”. We should enjoy these gifts by using them to serve and
honor God. have you thanked God for the good gifts He has given?
Psalms 37:3-9 says “Trust in the Lord Yahweh, and do good, so shall you dwell in
the land, and verily you shall be fed. Delight yourself also in the Lord Yahweh, and
He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord Yahweh,
trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass. And He shall bring forth your
righteousness as the light, and your judgment as the noonday. Rest in the Lord
Yahweh, and wait patiently for Him, fret not your self because of him who prospers
in his way, because of the man who brings wicked devises to pass. Cease from
anger, and forsake wrath, fret not yourself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers
shall be cut off, but those that wait upon the Lord Yahweh, they shall inherit the
earth”.
In Proverbs 16:5-7 it says “every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the
Lord Yahweh; though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished. By mercy and
truth iniquity is purged; and by the fear of the Lord Yahweh, men depart from evil.
When a man’s ways please the Lord Yahweh, He makes even his enemies to be at
peace with him”.
The Bible tells us in Ephesians 5:1-2 “be you followers of God as dear children.
And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us, and has given Himself for us an
offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor”. Jesus our example says
“when you have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know that I am He, and that
I do nothing of Myself, but as My Father have taught Me, I speak these things. And
He that sent Me is with Me, the Father has not left Me alone, for I do always those
things that please Him”.
Doing God’s will pleases Him (Ecclesiastes 13:12) says “let us hear the conclusion
of the whole matter. Fear (reverence) God and keep His commandments, for this is
the whole duty of man”. Samuel told Saul “behold to obey is better than sacrifice,
and to hearken than the fat of rams” in I Samuel 15:22. In Hebrews 13:15-16 it
says “by Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is
the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name. But to do good and to communicate;
forget not; for with such sacrifices God is well pleased”.
Hebrews chapter 11 tells of many who pleased Him, and in verse 6 it says “but
without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he that comes to God must believe
that He is and that comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder
of them that diligently seek Him”. In fact we are told many times to “walk by faith,
and not by sight”; and warned in Hebrews 10:38 “now the just shall live by faith, but
if any man draw back; My soul shall have no pleasure in Him”. This takes practice,
because you have been taught all your life by what you see, feel, touch, taste and
smell. But remember that the devil is the god of this world, and can affect these
things. Faith is believing the word of God regardless to what you see, feel, touch,
taste and smell. Remember that Jesus said “God is a Spirit and they that worship
Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth”. Everything that you see, feel, touch,
taste and smell was first made by that things which cannot be seen (Hebrews 11:3)
“through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so
that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear”.
Studying the word of God, pleases God; Paul and Silas were teaching in the
synagogue and in Berea “these were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in
that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures
daily, whether those things were so. Therefore many of them believed; also of
honorable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few” (Acts 10:11-12). Paul
told many “follow me as I follow Christ”; and we should do the same. We are told in
II Timothy 2:15 “study to show yourself approved to God, a workman that needs not
to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.
Renewing your mind, pleases God (Romans 12:1-2) says “I beseech you therefore
brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed
to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove
what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God”. In Hebrews 12:28-29
we are told to “serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear for our God is a
consuming fire”. God does not take pleasure in the death of the wicked, wherefore
turn yourselves and live; He says in (Ezekiel 18:23,32 and 33:11). God does not
want any to perish, but that they turn to the truth. God takes pleasure in being
among His people (Haggai 1:8) God says “go up to the mountain, and bring wood,
and build the house, and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, says the
Lord Yahweh”.
In Colossians 3:14-17 it says “above all these things put on charity, which is the
bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also
you are called in one body, and be you thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you
richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns
and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever
you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God
and the Father by Him”.
Philippians 2:13-16 Paul says “for it is God which works in you both to will and to do
of His good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputing. That you
may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a
crooked and perverse nation, among whom you shine as lights in the world.
Holding forth the word of life, that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not
run in vain, neither labored in vain”.
The book of Psalms tells us what God takes pleasure in; (Psalms 35:27) says “let
them shout for joy, and be glad, that favor my righteous cause; yea, let them say
continually, let the Lord Yahweh be magnified, which has pleasure in the prosperity
of His servant”. In Luke 12:32 Jesus says “fear not, little flock; for it is your Father’s
good pleasure to give you the kingdom”.
In (Psalms 111:1-4 it says “praise you the Lord Yahweh, I will praise the Lord
Yahweh with my whole heart; in the assembly of the upright, and in the
congregation. The works of the Lord Yahweh are great, sought out of all them that
have pleasure therein. His work is honorable and glorious and His righteousness
endures for ever. He has made His wonderful works to be remembered, the Lord
Yahweh is gracious and full of compassion”. In Psalms 147:11 it says “the Lord
Yahweh takes pleasure in them, that fear Him, in those that hope in His mercy”.
And in Psalms 149:1-5 says “praise you the Lord Yahweh, sing to the Lord Yahweh
a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints. Let Israel rejoice in Him
that made him, let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them praise His
name in the dance; let them sing praises to Him with the timbrel and harp. For the
Lord Yahweh takes pleasure in His people, He will beautify the meek with salvation”.
