Fulfilling Your Purpose

Purpose = the reason someone or something was made – the Bible says “For we
are His workmanship created in Christ Jesus unto good works which God has before
ordained that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).  In Romans 12:1-2 shows
us how.  In Jeremiah 29:11 God reveals His plan for us “For I know the thoughts that
I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an
expected end”.

The Bible shows us in Ecclesiastes 12:13  it says “let us hear the conclusion of the
whole matter, Fear (Reverence) God, and keep His commandments, for this is the
whole duty of man”.  The Bible also warns us in Proverb 15:22 that “without counsel
purposes are disappointed, but in the multitude of counselors they are established”.

As Jesus said our work is to believe in Him whom God the Father sent (John 6:29).
Jesus came to pay for the sins of the world.  God is not sending anyone to hell, in
fact He made a way for all to be saved (John 3:16-18).

We find purpose in obedience to God:  the Israelites traveled and camped as God
guided.  When you follow God’s guidance, you know you are where God wants you,
whether you’re moving or staying in one place.  You are physically somewhere right
now, instead of praying, “God, what do you want me to do next?” ask, “God, what do
you want me to do while I’m right here?”  Direction from God is not just for your next
big move.  He has a purpose in placing you where you are right now.  Begin to
understand God’s purpose for your life by discovering what He wants you to do now!
(Matthew 22:35:40).

Our purpose is to be in fellowship with God the Father and His Son (I Corinthians 1:
9,  I John 1:2-3).

Some people get caught up seeking wealth, but the purpose for wealth is to
establish God’s covenant in the earth (Deuteronomy 8:18).

We find purpose in trusting God:  To receive God’s guidance, Solomon said we must
acknowledge God in all our ways.  This means turning every area of life over to Him.
About a thousand years later, Jesus emphasized this same truth (Matthew 6:33).
Look at your values and priorities.  What is important to you?  In what areas have
you not acknowledged Him?  In the areas where you attempt to restrict or ignore His
influence that will cause you grief.  Make Him a vital part of everything you do, then
He will guide you, because you will be working to accomplish His purposes (Proverbs
3:4-6).  We can pray for revelation of what our purpose is (Ephesians 1:17-19).
Paul said it like this “Lord, what would You have me to do?” (Acts 9:6).  James says
to ask for wisdom (James 1:5-8).

We find purpose in becoming like Christ:  Our calling from God as Christians, is to
become like Christ (Romans 8:29-30).  This is a gradual, lifelong process.  To be
worthy of this calling means to want to do what is right and good (as Christ would).  A
lot of people quote verse 28 “and we know that all things work together for good to
them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose”, but they
are working according to their own purpose.

To accomplish the fulfillment of your purpose, God has set the five fold ministry of
apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers for the work of the ministry,
for the edifying of the body of Christ (Ephesians 4;9-15).
