Establishing Truth
Establishing truth is so very important because Jesus said that we are to worship
God in spirit and truth (John 4:23-24) “but the hour comes and now is when the
true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for the Father
seeks such to worship Him. God is a Spirit and they that worship Him must
worship Him in spirit and in truth”.
Many commemorated the anniversary of 9/11 and the world ask the questions of
where was God, and how come He let 3000 people die? Actually that is the
wrong question, because the twin towers would have had some say over fifty
thousand people in it at that time in the morning. Many testified that they heard
God speak to them and divert them; some didn’t go to work, some were
instructed to pick up cleaning before they went to work; some stopped to pick up
things that seemed unimportant, yet by doing these things, they were not in that
building when it came down. God was speaking to many and those that listened
were spared.
Just like God did in times of the flood, God told Noah to build an ark and Noah
was 120 building that ark; while he built the ark, he preached (I Peter 3:20)
“which sometime were disobedient when once the longsuffering of God waited in
the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls
were saved by water”.
Even Pilate made a statement, he didn’t want to deliver up Jesus to be crucified
(John 18:33-38) “then Pilate entered into the judgment hall, again, and called
Jesus, and said to Him, are You the King of the Jews? Jesus answered him, say
you this thing of yourself, of did others tell it you of Me? Pilate answered, am I a
Jew? Your own nation and the chief priests have delivered You to me; what
have You done? Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world; if My kingdom
were of this world, then would My servants fight, that I should not be delivered to
the Jews; but now is My kingdom not from here. Pilate therefore said to Him, are
You a king then? Jesus answered, you say that I am a king, to this end was I
born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness to the
truth. Every one that is of the truth hears My voice. Pilate said to Him, what is
truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and said to
them, I find in Him no fault at all”.
God the Father is Truth – all of God’s works, precepts, and judgments are done
in truth. David says in Psalms 31:5 “into Your hand I commit my spirit, You have
redeemed me, O Lord Yahweh God of truth”. Psalms 33:4 says “for the word of
the Lord Yahweh is right, and all His works are done in truth”. Psalms 119:151
says “You are near, O Lord Yahweh; and all Your commandments are truth”.
Psalms 145:18 says “the Lord Yahweh is near to all them that call upon Him, to
all that call upon Him in truth”.
Jesus Himself said “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the
Father, but by Me” (John 14:6). The Bible says that His word is truth; Jesus says
to the Father in (John 17:17) “sanctify them through Your truth; Your word is
truth”.
I believe God reveals truth to us, His people through His word. The only real
truth is the word of God (Psalms 119:160) “Your word is true from the beginning;
and every one of Your righteous judgments endures for ever”. The truth is in
Jesus, it tells us in Ephesians 4:21. God have predestined for us to conform into
the image of His Son, and we are told “but speaking the truth in love, may grow
up into Him in all things, which is the head, even Christ” (Ephesians 4:15).
We are told to have our loins girt about with truth (Ephesians 6:14). His truth is
our protection (Psalms 91:3-4) “surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the
fowler; and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers,
and under His wings shall you trust. His truth shall be your shield and buckler”.
The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of truth (John 14:16-17) Jesus says “and I will
pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide
with you for ever. Even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive,
because it sees Him not; neither knows Him, but you know Him, for He dwells with
you, and shall be in you”. John 15:26 Jesus says “but when the Comforter is
come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which
proceeds from the Father, He shall testify of Me”. John 16:13 Jesus says
“however, when He, the Spirit of truth is come, He will guide you into all truth; for
He shall not speak of Himself, but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak,
and He will show you things to come”.
I John 5:6 says “this is He that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not
by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that bears witness,
because the Spirit is truth”.
Good news is that truth is a fruit of the spirit which is given to us (Ephesians 5:9)
“for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth”.
David ask God a question in Psalms 15:1-5; it says “Lord Yahweh, who shall
abide in Your tabernacle? Who shall dwell in Your holy hill? He that walks
uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart. He that
backbites not with his tongue, nor does evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a
reproach against his neighbor. In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but
he honors them that reverence the Lord Yahweh. He that swears to his own
hurt, and changes not. He that put not out his money to usury, nor takes reward
against the innocent; he that does these things shall never be moved”.
We are told to buy the truth in Proverbs 23:23 “buy the truth, and sell it not; also
wisdom, and instruction, and understanding”.
Jesus teaches us that only the truth can set you free (John 8:31-32) “then said
Jesus to those Jews which believed on Him, if you continue in My word, then are
you My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make
you free”.
James 1:16-19 says “do not err, my beloved brethren. Every good gift and
every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with
whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of His own will fathered He
us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of His creatures.
Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak,
slow to wrath”.
God does not want any to perish, but that all should come to the knowledge of
the truth (I Timothy 2:4; II Peter 3:9). God has provided us with His word, it is up
to us to dig in and apply His word in our life. However many Christians never
pick up their Bible to read it.
The apostle Peter tells us to remain faithful to the truth (II Peter 1:10-13)
“wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election
sure; for if you do these things, you shall never fall. For so an entrance shall be
ministered to you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ. Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in
remembrance of these things, though you know them, and be established in the
present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle, to stir you
up by putting you in remembrance”.
The apostle John comments those who walk in truth (I John 2:21) “I have not
written to you because you know not the truth, but because you know it, and that
no lie is of the truth”. In I John 3:18-19 he says “my little children, let us not love
in word, neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And hereby we know that we
are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him”. In II John 4, he says “I
rejoiced greatly that I found of your children walking in truth, as we have
received in commandment from the Father”. And in III John 3-4 he says “for I
rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you,
even as you walk in truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children
walk in truth”.
The apostle Paul says in I Thessalonians 2:11-13 says “as you know how we
exhorted and comforted and charged every one of you, as a father does his
children. That you would walk worthy of God, who has called you to His kingdom
and glory. For this cause also thank we God, without ceasing, because, when
you received the word of God which you heard of us, you received it not as the
word of men; but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually works also in
you that believe”.
The devil is always trying to blame God for the things which he does, but if you
remember what Jesus said in John 10:10 “the thief (that’s the devil) comes not
but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I am come that they might have life
and that they might have it more abundantly”. If it is good, it is God, if it is bad, it
is the devil.
