Do You Know Your God?

Know means to be intimate with, having a vibrant spiritual relationship with God.
Jesus came to reconcile us back to God, as Adam was before the fall.  Adam walked
with God.

God wants us to know Him (Isaiah 58:2) “yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know
My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and forsook not the ordinance of their
God; they ask of Me the ordinances of justice, they take delight in approaching to
God”.  Jeremiah 29:13 says “and you shall seek Me and find Me, when you shall
search for Me with all your heart”.

God promised to make the way for us to know Him (Jeremiah 24:7) “and I will give
them an heart to know Me, that I am the Lord Yahweh; and they shall be My people,
and I will be their God; for they shall return to Me with their whole heart”. And
Jeremiah 31:33-34 says “but this is the covenant that I will make with the house of
Israel, after those days, says the Lord Yahweh, I will put My law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be My people.  And
they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother,
saying, know the Lord Yahweh; for they shall all know Me, from the least of them to
the greatest of them, says the Lord Yahweh: for I will forgive their iniquity and I will
remember their sin no more”.  This was accomplished by Jesus’ death, burial, and
resurrection; and is available to all who come to Jesus and their Lord and Savior
(Hebrews 8:10-11).

To know God the Father, you must know the Son; it is the Son that shows us the
Father (John 1:18) “no man has seen God at any time, the only begotten Son, which
is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him”.  John 8:19 says “then said they
to Him, where is Your Father?  Jesus answered, you neither know Me, nor My
Father, if you had known Me, you should have known My Father also”.  And in John
14:7-9 says “if you had known Me, you should have known My Father also, and from
hereafter you know Him, and have seen Him.  Philip said to Him, Lord, show us the
Father, and it suffices us.  Jesus said to him, have I been so long time with you, and
yet have you not known Me, Philip?  He that has seen Me has seen the Father, and
how say you then, show us the Father?”

God is looking for people to know Him (II Chronicles 16:9) “for the eyes of the Lord
Yahweh run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong in the
behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward Him:.

Many people have the kind of relationship with God that Job had before he got to
know God and stated “naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I
return there; the Lord Yahweh gave, and the Lord Yahweh has taken away, blessed
be the name of the Lord Yahweh” (Job 1:21).  And that sounds noble, but if you
start there, you like Job have to come to know Him (Job 42:1-5) “then Job answered
the Lord Yahweh, and said, I know that You can do every thing and that no thought
can be withheld from You.  Who is he that hides counsel without knowledge?
Therefore have I uttered that I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I
knew not.  Hear, I beseech You, and I will speak; I will demand of You, and declare
You to me.  I have heard of You by the hearing of the ear; but now my eyes sees
You”.  And see how Job’s life was after knowing Him.  Verse 42:10 says “The Lord
Yahweh turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends, also the Lord
Yahweh gave Job twice as much as he had before”.

At the beginning Job was afraid of God and he would sacrifice to God because he
thought that his children would sin, he was sacrificing in fear and fear is a magnet
for the devil.  Job said “for the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and
that which I was afraid of is come to me” (Job 3:25).

Some are taught that God will make you sick to teach you something, or He will take
your loved one because He needs a flower in heaven.  This causes many people to
turn away from God.  The Bible says “every good and perfect gifts is from above,
and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither
shadow of turning” (James 1:17).

It’s hard to pray with confidence if you think that God was the one that did it.  The
Bible says “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with
power, who went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed of the devil,
for God was with Him” (Acts 10:38).  Jesus clearly said in John 10:10 “the thief
comes not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy; I am come that they might have
life, and that they might have it more abundantly”.

The Bible says “and this is the confidence that we have in Him, that, if we ask any
thing according to His will, He hears us.  And if we know that He hear us, whatsoever
we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of Him”.  But because
people have let in doubt, they have fallen into a double mind set, and James 1:6-8
warns “but let him ask in faith, nothing wavering, for he that wavers is like a wave of
sea driven with the wind and tossed.  For let not that man think that he shall receive
anything of the Lord.  A double minded man is unstable in all his ways”.

Stop falling into the trap of the devil and get to know your God.  There are some
mighty examples in the Bible.  Daniel said “the people that do know their God shall
be strong and do exploits” (Daniel 11:32).  And we see this through out his life.
Daniel prayed even after the decree that forbid any one to ask any god, except the
would be put in the lion’s den, he was put in the lion’s den, but God delivered him.
Also the three Hebrew boys who went into the fiery furnace and came out without
even the smell of smoke on them.  By this king Nebuchadnezzar made a decree to
honor the God of Shadrack, Meshach, and Abediego (Daniel 3:27-29) “and the
princes, governors, and captains, and king’s counselors, being gathered together,
saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was a hair of their
head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on
them.  Then Nebuchadnezzar spoke, and said, blessed be the God of Shadrach,
Meshach, and Abediego, who has sent His angel, and delivered His servants that
trusted in Him, and have changed the king’s word, and yielded their bodies, that
they might not serve, nor worship any god, except their own God.  Therefore I make
a decree, that every people, nation, and language which speak any thing amiss,
against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and
their houses shall be made a dunghill, because there is no other God that can
deliver after this sort”.

Paul desire was “for I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus
Christ, and Him crucified” (I Corinthians 2:2).  He goes on in verse 12 to say “now we
have received not the spirit of the world; but the Spirit which is of God, that we might
know the things that are freely given to us of God”.  Paul prayed for the Ephesians
in Ephesians 1:1:17-19 “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him.  The
eyes of your understanding being enlightened, that you may know what is the hope
of His calling, and what the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.  And
what is the exceeding greatness of His power to us-ward who believe according to
the working of His mighty power”.  Also in chapter 3:14-19 he prayed for them to
know the love of Christ that passed knowledge.

John says in I John 5:20 “and we know that the Son of God is come, and has given
us an understanding, that we may know Him that is true, and we are in Him that is
true even in His Son Jesus Christ.  This is the true God, and eternal life”.

Jesus tells of the danger of not knowing Him (Matthew 7:21-23) “not every one that
says to Me Lord Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that does the
will of My Father which is in heaven.  Many will say to Me in that day, Lord Lord,
have we not prophesied in Your name?  And in Your name have cast out devils?
And in Your name done many wonderful works?  And then will I profess to them, I
never knew you, depart from Me, you that work iniquity”.

As we renew our minds by the word of God, we will get to know our God (Romans 12:
1-2) “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God that you present
your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable
service.  And be not conformed to this world, but be you transformed by the
renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable and
perfect will of God”.
