The Devil is Defeated

The devil is already defeated, Jesus defeated him (Colossians 2:15) “and having
spoiled principalities and powers, He made a show of them openly, triumphing over
them in it”.

Even from the Garden of Eden, when God told the devil “and I will put enmity
between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed; it shall bruise
your head and you shall bruise his heel” (Genesis 3:15).  The devil has been trying
to stop it from coming to pass, and when he knew that the Son had come, he tried
to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, not to go through all the pain and suffering, but to
bow down to him and he would give Jesus the power and authority that he stole
from Adam & Eve by deception (Luke 4:3-13).  I thank God that Jesus completed
what He came to do and told God the Father in the Garden of Gethsemame “not
My will, but Your will be done (Matthew 26:42).  Because satan could not stop
Jesus, and was defeated, he has been trying to fool the church into thinking that he
has real power, but in truth the devil only has the power that people give him.
Revelation 12:11 says “and they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by
the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives to the death”.  Just as
Jesus defeated him in the wilderness, we have to quote “it is written” against what
ever he brings before us.  To do this, we must know the Word.

Some people think that the devil will only be defeated, when he is thrown into the
lack of fire, but the truth is that Jesus has already defeated him.
The devil is a bluff.  I Peter 5:8 says “be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary
the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour”.  This
means he can not devour everybody, only those who are weak in their spirit.  Why
not get out of the category of weak Christian and feed your spirit man.  Remember
whatever you fed the most, will rule.  We established last week, that we are spirit,
soul and body (I Thessalonians 5:23).  We have to determine who you are going to
let rule (Romans 8:5-6) “for they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the
flesh, but they that are after the spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally
minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.  Just as in the
natural you feed your body foods that nourish it, you should not just eat only what
taste good, fruits and vegetables are essential for a healthy diet.  The same
applies to your spirit.  If you feed your spirit only the promises and not the warnings
it wouldn’t be healthy.  Remember, it is written “man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceed from the mouth of God.

James says “my brethren count it all joy, when you fall into divers temptations.
Knowing this that they trying of your faith works patience.  But let patience have her
perfect work, that you may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing”. The only power
the devil has is that which man gives him, he will give you thoughts saying for
instance “you are not going to make it” or “God gave you that sickness to teach
you something”, well, Jesus said “he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44).
The Bible tells us in II Corinthians 10:5 “casting down imaginations and every high
thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity
every thought to the obedience of Christ”, which means we have the power.  Jesus
said on the cross “it is finished”, now whose report are you going to believe.

The Bible is not just a good book, it is our life line.  As we apply it in our lives, we
grow spiritually and can reign in life through Jesus Christ as the Bible says in
Roman 5:17.  We must “study to show ourselves approved to God, a workman that
needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”.  You must “submit
yourselves therefore to God.  Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:
7).  We have to guard our heart as we are told in Proverbs 4:20-23 “My son, attend
to my words, incline your ear to my sayings.  Let them not depart from your eyes,
keep them in the midst of your heart.  For they are life to those that find them, and
health to all their flesh.  Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it are the
issues of life”.

The Bible tells us over 300 times to “fear not”; fear is what the devil uses to draw
you away from God and keep you under his domain.  Jesus tells us how to live
triumphantly in John 15:1-5, the key is abiding in Him, in the word.  The same thing
God told Joshua still applies to us now (Joshua 1:8) “this book of the law shall not
depart out of your mouth, bust you shall meditate therein day and night, that you
may observe to do according to all that is written, therein, for then you shall make
your way prosperous and then you shall have good success”.  The choice is ours.
What do you think on?  Philippians 4:6-9 gives us what we should think on.  Psalms
119:105 says “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path”, the only way
to apply this to our life, we must read, study and do the word, live it.  The Bible says
“whom the Son sets free is free indeed” (John 8:36).  Paul warns believers in
Galatians 5:1 “stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ has made you
free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage”.

Jesus told us to “cast out devils” don’t war with them, cast them out.  Luke 10:19
“behold, I give to you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and over all the
power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”, this shows we have
been given the power to do this.  Ephesians 6:10-18 shows us how to live.  The
Bible also tells us to “let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom He has redeemed
from the hand of the enemy” (Psalms 107:2).  Let’s stop fighting with the devil and
just cast him out, as Jesus told us.  It is our responsibility to exercise our authority,
which has been given to us, and stop asking God to do for us, things He has given
us authority to do.  We have to enforce the authority given to us, by quoting the
word on the things which come against us.  God has set principles and laws in this
earth and He will not go against what He has set forth.
